( www.TFLcar.com ) All-wheel drive is a staple feature of modern crossovers, but what about sedans? With the 2021 Toyota Camry AWD, there's another option for those who want the security of all-wheel drive without making the jump to what's now a more conventional option, like the RAV4.

I watched this video so long ago. It actually drove me.....ha.... to buy the 2021 awd Toyota camry. It's an absolute UNIT of a vehicle. It's currently piling snow in New England, the plow dumped a pile on my driveway entrance and this beast of a car blows threw it, it's awd keeps me from getting stuck and drives like it's glued to the road up my damn near 75 degree incline driveway threw 7in of snow. AMAZING VEHICLE

To me, no point in having tons of power in a FWD car. I would DEFINITELY consider an AWD V6 Camry. I think Toyota could have sold MORE V6's by offering them with AWD.
@hermanjohnson9180
@hermanjohnson9180 4 года назад
An engineer from Toyota already stated that the awd is there so you are safer in the winter. Nothing more.
@dannyt9067
@dannyt9067 4 года назад
Herman Johnson AWD has nothing to do with being safer in winter. It’s a marketing gimmick to all the stupid sheep. The most important thing for safety in winter is TIRES....sure AWD may get you moving but it doesn’t do a damn thing to help you slow down or stop. That’s where Dedicated snow/winter tires help.
@hermanjohnson9180
@hermanjohnson9180 4 года назад
@@dannyt9067 It's dependent on the terrain. The average consumer will use all seasons. And AWD with good all seasons are more than enough. Dedicated winter tires are only really necessary for severe winter weather.
@jasonw8124
@jasonw8124 4 года назад
@@dannyt9067 My wife has been buying AWD cars for nearly 2 decades, I recently bought her a new FWD car and this winter she was fine. AWD actually caused her to "misread" situations twice by instilling too much confidence. Good thing about FWD (or RWD) in bad conditions? It will warn you when traction is bad because when you push on the gas and the wheels spin so easily that's a big "hey there's something wrong here" moment! For me, I chose my AWD car (Q60 AWD) to replace my over-powered, tuned GTI because it rains a lot here and 2WD vehicles have issues getting going, much worse for FWD. I love having AWD now as I drive very aggressively and enjoy being able to "launch" even in bad conditions. However, I must still be mindful of the bad conditions and drive accordingly, but 0-40 or something like that on slick wet roads with WOT....yeah me likey! As I suppose all of the WRX and STI guys like too!
@dannyt9067
@dannyt9067 4 года назад
Herman Johnson when it snows in my area the first vehicles to run off the road, flip over, or crash into another car is always an AWD suv. Don’t get me wrong they are better than fwd or rwd for traction while accelerating but most people feel they’re invincible cuz they have Awd...which has nothing to do with braking or maintaining control while slowing down. My buddy has a tow truck and he always sends me pics of wrecked suvs many with worn tires.

I used to own a Camry. It was a 4 Cylinder and it was perfectly fine in a FWD car. However, in an AWD I would imagine the option for a 6 would be nice. And Roman, TFL has always had my respect for being journalist friendly with your other channel competitors. Promoting another channel and or giving them a positive promotion for your viewers to go to another channel is bold.

I really wanted an AWD sedan. I bought a 2016 Subaru Legacy in 2018. I do my own service and found out it was burning oil like I eat spicy nacho doritos. I wasn't aware that Toyota was doing an AWD Camry for 2021, so I ended up selling the Legacy and getting a CR-V AWD. Wish I'd known about this Camry coming for 2021. I would have waited for it.

It reminds me of back in high school when people would buy those stick on hood scoops and vents and put them on there clapped out Honda Civic. It's a Factory Ricer, it just needs that big fart can in the back for a muffler.

The Camry and Avalon are great family sedans, but I prefer a hatch with BOLTED- ON roofrails. I can fit huge stuff in the back of a hatch, without always needing my trailer. A Subaru CUV also has over 8" of ground clearance, and can be fit with a winch, skids, MTs/ATs, and a diff locker. My Crosstrek can tow 1500lb too, and the bigger Subies can handle up to 3500lb or so.

Where I live on a mountain you need good tires and AWD to get up it as a Honda Accord with FWD and snow tires won't work (won't get me home - as I had problems in the past). Is this a good AWD that actually will pull you up a mountain in 4-5 inches of snow like a five speed Subaru, or is not as good? Anyone know? I just saw Sofan's review and because of the ground clearance, he got stuck in the snow with this car - on a flat surface. It's weakness is clear - more than four inches for snow and you get stuck, otherwise it works fine. I will stay with the Legacy which gives about 7 inches of clearance and I won't get stuck climbing my mountain (they plow, but not frequently). Thanks Sofan.

AWD is more about peace of mind than anything. My wife is very wary of winter weather, and she only wants AWD cars. I actually really like the Camry (odd for someone who considers himself a car enthusiast) and I would've loved to have one, but the lack of AWD means I now drive a Subaru. Had this been available a few years ago, I'd have bought it in a heartbeat. But I would've saved some cash and bought the SE version.

Too bad they didn’t release these AWD cars and CUVs with actual good, to great quality All-Weather tires like the Nokia WRG or the Toyo Celsius. They won’t need Winter tires then AND the all weathers last similarly to the all season base tires on these vehicles. They are a little louder. The Camry is now offering AWD now that they don’t have others (Fusion) offering AWD anymore. The Camry is EXPENSIVE! Especially when compared to the “out the door” real prices. I actually know about the AWD Fusion (2018 Fusion Sport AWD, 2.7 litre V-6) because I own one (my wife does actually) and with Toyo Celsius tires and living in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains here in Alberta, Canada, I can say it is a great winter vehicle! I paid less than the asking price on this Camry and that was in CAD!! Exchange at the time was 1.24 or equal to about $30,000 USD. A similarly equipped Camry V6 front wheel drive in 2018 was $6,000 more at the time. I shopped both. The Fusion has been trouble free since purchased.
@thetechlibrarian
@thetechlibrarian 4 года назад
No only did ford drop the awd, but they are dropping the fusion all together,The Toyota is expensive because they’re better vehicles and they hold their resale value I would hope that fusions been trouble free it’s barely what a year and a half old? The real test would be would you rather on a 2000 Toyota Camry or a 2000 Ford Taurus since the nameplate hasn’t been around long enough to make a direct comparison
@shitloveaduck
@shitloveaduck 4 года назад
The Tech Librarian - the only Toyota I owned was a 2014 Tundra TRD Off-road. After 2 transmissions and 2 other strandings due to electrical issues, and being treated better than my previous F150, which was trouble free, the Tundra proved to be the worst truck I have ever owned. I have owned well over 100 trucks in my life, for the Ranch, personal trucks and collector trucks. The Toyota was actually the worst. They are not the vehicle they used to be but then again they have had enough of their issues as well. Rusting frames so bad trucks snap in half, not ONE other manufacturer has had to warranty and actually fully replace the entire frame as part of an international recall. Still an issue up to 2017 and counting. The early Tundra boxes rusted out. The 3.4 in the a Tacoma’s was not a very good engine, not a long lived one either. The current Camry has issues with the transmissions. There are Fusions out there with 300,000 kms on them and they are still running well. It’s not a bad car. The resale is not that of the Camry, but Toyota didn’t offer a 325 HP all wheel drive high performance sedan. They still don’t with the new AWD Camry with the 4 cylinder and 200 HP and much less torque. My Fusion will never see 100,000 km (65,000 miles) in my lifetime. It will be just fine. Toyota fans are so illogical and always fall back on the ever dwindling myth if reliability. Oh well.
