Today I drive and review a 2021 Ford Explorer ST! Ford Inventory: www.edkenleyford.net/ My Car Build/Mod Channel: / @tronautolab Second Channel: / @thebenhardyshow Instagram: ben_hardypl Facebook: @benhardycar
Here's my issue with the explorer. When you're cruising along the person in front of you drops to 5 MPH under the speed limit because they think it's an unmarked police car.
That’s honestly my biggest gripe with this car. I love the styling and the performance numbers but the attention they get on the road as unmarked cars is a problem for me lol.
Having once owned a decomissioned FPIU (cheap as fuck, considering its retail counterparts), when I'd want to go 10+ over the limit on the left lane of highways, people would either slow down or purposefully act "angelic" in the left lane. I always let out an audible exhale when it happens.
I dont think its a real issue...i do have too many instances with my all black ram 1500...many cars were driving slower lol...kinda funny cause i know most people overspeed here🤣💔
I've had mine 3 weeks and still keep discovering new things it does. I love the horsepower. I have the black on black version. It's fun to drive and looks like a beast...
I’m a big fan of the ST. Especially after seeing a handful of mods added to it, some of which are a must. First and foremost, a Borla exhaust 👍 The blowoff from the turbos is already great, but throw a Whipple cooler, and a tune, in and it’s perfect.
I am currently driving my 2021 ST from Alaska to Georgia. Doing great on gas, comfortable ride, comfortable seats (massage helps). I had to sleep in it one night in the Yukon and it was comfortable. The slippery and deep snow options were useful as well as the lane assist in the Northern Rockies. Only thing I don't like or understand is the buttons to skip channels/song when you have the option on the touch screen.
@@brianrisati7006 it depended where I was getting gas in Canada since they do liters. Never really let it get close to E. If I was close to a 1/4 I would use my gas cans (5gallons x3). But I averaged about $90-$110 US when in Canada if I remember correctly. Also, it’s a 2020 ST didn’t realize 2021 was put down in the original post.
I have a previous gen, the one thing I think that gets overlooked in this redesign...the drivers footwell has a proper and flat dead pedal. Previous you were resting your foot on the wheel tub intrusion and it wasn't all that comfortable on a long trip. This one should be much better.
I love my 23" now that we figured out what that annoying clunk was coming from the front end. It took two trips to the dealership and a loaner car, but I got it back and while they were removing the right front strut for replacement they noticed the upper bearing had separated. So they installed a new RF strut, upper bearing, strut mount, and did an alignment. Reading through the invoice it says “Found SSM 52405 for front strut noise and vehicle falls within build date of SSM criteria" So Ford is aware of this issue somewhere along the line. I know a lot of folks are experiencing this same issue and no one seemed to have a solution I could find. Except that the dealerships were telling them it was normal. DON'T buy that crap if yours is making what sounds like a strut or ball joint noise from the front end!! This SUV runs like a bat out of hell, especially in sport mode. It has a stiff ride and handles like a go cart instead of a 4600lb SUV. I'm doing the ST Experience in Asheville next month and can't wait!!
I got mine yesterday. Its an awesome vehicle! I really love it. This car has it all and most important you don't have to drive a minivan if you have a big family.
Can you do a 2021 ST vs a Platinum ? not sure which one to get is the Horse power really worth it ? do you really feel the difference between the 2. im liking the ST only cause of the black appearance package.
Can you tell us if you can save your backup cameras settings? No one has touched that subject. When you back up, you have that overhead view to the right of the rear view and it kills your backup camera view real estate. I would like to set it to just the back up camera view for my wife who is not tech savvy if I purchase this vehicle. I really like the Ford ST, but this can sway my decision to the 2021 Durango R/T Tow & Go. They have a really nice big screen.
I like the performance and technology, and the options and new add-ons are really good. The wheels are cool with the red brakes. I hate the front end; not digging the mustache grill. The rear looks almost like a commercial vehicle. And the vertically mounted iPad looks aftermarket.
The 2020 has a recall on the exhaust pipes due to rattling. Other than that I’m very happy with the vehicle. I can carry the entire family and cruise the hills and highways of western PA without feeling a need for more power.
That’s the same color of my ST I love it ....!! Range Rover can’t hold a candle to this machine it’s a rocket! People do slow down when you approach from behind fearing a unmarked car....lol
Nice explore st. I just wish they did the stitches in red and the ST symbols on the seats was red also. And the only other thing I would change is the middle screen I would go for the 8 inch version then that 10 inch.
Red Brake Calipers, bigger rotors and the black 21in wheels are part of the ST street pack. The standard ST has machined face 20 inch rim and the smaller rotors and less performance pads. The ST track pack has 21in summer tires, bigger rotors, red calipers and an even more aggressive brake pad..
That car is fast I actually raced one out here in these streets of Los Angeles. I was shocked at how fast it was, I barely beat it on my 2021 Honda Accord 2.0T
Explorers are great, I drive a police utility. Be prepared for people to slow down, cops to randomly engage in conversation with you at gas stations. The great thing about my car is the highway experience. Get in the left lane and cruise. 90% will immediately get over. Back roads are the annoying part though, everyone is afraid to even go the speed limit. Great engine, acceleration and all.
I wish Ford would have made the embroidered "ST" on the driver and passenger seats red just like how "ST" is red everywhere else on the Explorer. Come on, Toyota does it for TRD.
I love the new redesigned explorer!! But I work at enterprise car rental and man we’ve had a few 2020 explorers under 15k already having problems and issues😬
I've read that the NAV is tied into WAZE. Is that true? Because WAZE is always what I run on our 2019 Explorer Sport from my phone being plugged into the USB port. Screw the factory NAV on the 2019's. It can't compete with WAZE at all.
I’m a Ford guy BUT the Explorer was known to have issues with its Transmission. Has this been resolved? It looks great but looks can be deceiving and do not mean squat if it’s at the dealership on recalls and they cannot fix their own products. I own a 2000 F-350 7.3 and a 2011 F150 5.0 and love them both, I was leaning on getting an explorer but started looking into the vehicle when I notice the issues it has I wish and hope they could resolve them since by far in my opinion Ford has higher quality parts, luxurious looks, and above all a smoother ride.....
Honestly? Every car has its issues. My Explorer is at 450k miles. No problems. Yes, I've replaced my transmission but the one-time replacement was cheaper then the replacement of a 2019 Subaru STI clutch! Id also like to know if Ford has addressed the issues caused by engine configuration but compared to reported non-warranty covered problems occurring in other 3-row SUVs in the 60k range, I'd rather take my chances with Ford.
@@JumpinJellies8D true to that that every vehicle has issues but some have a history and they tried to fix it to no avail. Really in all honesty I rather drive a Ford over Chevy or Dodge and I have owned all three and in my opinion Ford is number one. I really hope that they have solved the transmission problem cause it looks great.
The 10 speed in the new explorers is quite solid. The 3rd generation explorers and 4th generation V6 explorers had the poorly designed 5r55s transmission that was horrible faulty. Explorers haven’t been equipped with that transmission since 2010
@@mattweeks2272 Thanks for info Matt but my wife has a friend and her Explorer has been into the shop countless times due to the transmission. Maybe I’m traumatized only God knows but I always tend to investigate a vehicle for issues prior to purchasing I am in the market to purchase a car now and had skipped the Explorer due to this issue.
Hi.. With so much power, do you think a police officer will give us a pass, if we tell them.... I was feeling the experience of my new car? Ticket or not? Got one last week and I can’t wait to check out the power. 🤣
Your video is the one who sold me on getting this particular car make and model and this color. However I got this in December it is now March and it is annoying me in terms of acceleration it’s not up to par it feels rough and not smooth and kinda like your foot is on brake and gas same time it lags. Idk if it’s cuz it’s sport car or sumthin is wrong but other new cars I been in don’t do this. My older car which is 2011 don’t do this so idk what’s up with this brand new car. I’ll take it to the dealership I just didn’t want to go because it’s like another doctor appt. but I been noticed it in Like end of December beginning January just been procrastinating going I wonder if I’m the only one with this issue And to go fast I have to put in sport mode it doesn’t seem to be fast on regular drive you’d think a powerful vehicle like this would be fast period in regular mode and like a super beast in sport but it is not
