@@ilx_ben3680 Trying to see if I can beat it. Fingers Cross. Alot of people have asked me so I decided to reach out to the best reviewer on here in this case happens to be SAM.
My 2016 ILX has 327,000, only replaced oil, trans fluid, brakes, battery and tires, adjusted valve clearance once. The car does 0-60 in like 6 seconds today. Best car to own, long term. It probably has served me double of what any other car on the road can serve me, without problems. This car will likely reach many more miles.
I own a 2013 ILX. Always starts and runs just like new. I can step on that gas pedal like crazy and I think the car wants me to step on it harder... Honda quality is on a different level..I loved the ILX so much I bought me an MDX.. which also runs great only downside of the MDX it uses a timing belt...
That’s crazy! Did you always use premium 93 grade gas or did you use regular 87? Also would it affect the car that much if you used regular gas? Would love to know, thanks

yeah the execs at honda always want the engineers to dial down the engines.. it's like honda still living by the old gentlemen agreement the Japanese manufacturers agreed to in the 90s..
Their old gearboxes weren't really good at all, pretty much all of the 4 and 5 speed autos failed. engines were defiantly always great. Reason this dct is so good is because it has a torque converter as well.
The fact that both are almost same engine size, 2.4/2.5 but the Mazda has a turbo and they are still very similar, imagine what the 2.4 could do if it came with a turbo from the factory 🥶
The Mazda3 turbo get 5.7 to 5.9sec. 0 to 60.. many sources can back this up from videos to magazine including motor trend. Not 7 sec like in this video.. The non turbo Mazda3 gets around 7sec. People tuning the mazda 3 turbo are getting over 300hp already. Something fishy about this video
Right on Sam, great new opening track - audio is better balanced, easier when watching drag races at night when the kids are sleeping and I don't need fool around with the volume. Graphics are clean and "Borg" inspired! The dash view should appease the masses looking to see the speedometer. Fresh feel to a familiar format. Well done. Stoked to see the new footage going forward. Get this mans to 100k subs so we can enjoy GT3 content. GO GO!
@@tsenif you're righht all of it playing together makes it rather close. And the ilx is cheaper too, I'd definitely choose it over the mazda knowing that now
@@andrewisca Considering it's based off a Civic from 2 generations ago, I wouldn't. There are way newer cars out there for a similar cost. Unless I was buying preowned.

@@IReahpZz what are you smoken lol, if your basing that opinion on this video then OK, but there is something wrong here. i personally have a 3 turbo hatch, NOT SLOW, 0-40 WRX STI bros don't pull on me. it usually surprises the heck out of them. now to 60 and up yeah their extra HP takes over and they start to walk away.
I like the idea of a k20 instead of L15, not 10 speed, but a manual and 2 door hatch. Acura better get ready to build this, lots of honda coupe enthusiasts are looking forward to a new 2 door honda besides the NSX.
I like the white boxes with the specs better. Easier to read. I like when you slow it down as both cars cross the line if they are close. I like the Dragy. All in all, great stuff! Keep it up!
Was never close, the Acura had every holeshot including the rollrace. The Acura was roughly 5 mph slower in the quarter mile and a second slower in the quarter mile.
@@StanOfGB Ummm, yes. Its info that can easily be found on the internet. 227hp 310lb-ft on 87 and 250 hp 320 lb-ft on premium fuel. Similar to Ford ecoboost engines...
@@StanOfGB www.capomazda.com/blog/do-turbocharged-mazda-engines-have-get-more-horsepower-with-premium-fuel/ “With regular fuel, the 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G turbo-four produces 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. With premium (at least 93 octane) fuel, the engine produces 250 horses and 320 lb-ft of torque”.
I definitely liked how there was more commentary than on your other videos. The videos are great but only tell half the story. The ILX was very impressive for being 50 hp and like 100 ft lbs of torque down on the Mazda.
Acura = Lighter, better transmission, better looks, less power less torque Mazda = heavier, uglier ( my opinion ) very restrictive transmission, more power more torque…
The K24 in that Acura only needs some minor N/A mods, and it would smoke the bigger 2.5 turbo mazda. People don't understand how insane the K24 is. I'd go Acura all the way.

I’m a 2019 ILX owner and I give the Mazda 3 every win of this race (normal/sport/rolling), but in sport mode I think the ILX will tail the Mazda 3 closer than expected 🧐 The 0-60 of ILX is around 6.2 - 6.6 seconds by the way! Edit : I’m very impressed by the performance of the ILX! Didn’t give much ground to the Mazda 3 despite huge HP and torque disadvantage! ILX is really an underdog ✌🏼
Lol did you watch the 0-60 ; 1/4 mile runs with dragy at the end? Yes, it is hot (86F) but you won’t go from 8 secs to 6.2 secs .. Stock ILX in good temps, DA , etc, will range in the 6.7-7.2 sec I’m pretty sure the Mazda 3 here is not on premium fuel (not a Mazda owner nor a fan so not trying to “defend it”) but even though it’s hot, it should be able to do 6.6-6.7 sec..I’m guessing both cars are just a little heat soaked. Bc those times for both were horrendous no matter what 😆
@@trialbygaming4588 I know right, but I read somewhere Acura wanted to « distinguish » the ILX from the Civic Si, the latter being more sporty than the ILX and less refined… I think jt’s a shame they overlooked the ILX… 🥲
@@layne4376 i’m the owner of the ILX, my car was built to be a show car. Heavy wheels, subwoofers, camber etc. I’m slower than stock hence why i got 8 seconds instead of 6.6 which most ILX Owners would get
@@jjchockey agreed, I hope this is the last production year of the ILX. That’s the only garbage car in Acura’s lineup. It never even made sense for them to make it. It should have never been created.
@@jjchockeyThe amount of crap yall give the ILX must be for the absolute Base model😂 bc I work for a dealership & i drive all types of cars & The Ilx has the same if not more features then other cars in the compact segment. As long as you get the Premium package & above then its a pretty decent car… compared to the the 2022 Civic its neck & neck when it comes to amenities & options for a “2 generation old platform”
@@Lmaoomikeyy Bruh i work at a dealership too n when fell in love w the 2020 ilx aspec premium n was looking for a new car anyway n got it n def am not disappointed
The ILX could have done better. All I've done to mine is put a drop in K&N filter and I've raced cars that had more power and won easily. For example volkswagen GTI's WRXs V6 acura TLs RDX with 2.0T. I shift the gears myself in S mode. I didn't really see that with this driver.
Definitely the best comment on here bc from my experience with the ilx is that it takes down plenty of cars with more power & the general 0-60 rating of 6.6 might vary bc I usually achieve low 6 seconds times.
I love all the new specs and the draggy seals the deal..!! Gotta admit though, I like the old intro music better. These cars are actually much closer in real world performance than the numbers on paper suggest.
It is an embarrassment lol the 8 sp DCT in the ILX is very good. The 6 sp in the Mazda 3 is ancient and Mazda tunes the 2.5t only for low end grunt it falls flat on its face anything above 5krpm.
@@Tsand4 I don’t think it’s an embarrassment. Remember, the MAZDA3 is slightly cheaper than the ILX. And with that you get all wheel drive and a turbo and a nicer interior.
@@Soh90 I’m not saying the ILX is better. You do get a way better all around package with the Mazda 3. But performance wise it should have smoked the ILX. The transmission really kills every Mazda with the 2.5t…….also Mazda tunes it all for low end torque they should broaden the torque band imo.
Another great video and interesting race Sam! It's fun to see these daily driver drag races. I'm curious about a matchup between the 5.7 Charger vs CT4-V/CT5-V vs Type-S
This ilx would be interesting to run against a charger or challenger with the v6. Similar performance and both have a great transmission. Was definitely impressed with the Acura, didn’t expect it to do as well as it did against the Mazda
@@joecool9739 yeah they don’t compete at all, but I’ve seen a few races on this channel with cars that don’t really compete and I like that! Interesting real world races you can easily encounter on the street and not always with some special cars that you will never see

@@sharmilanraj damn I didint know ilx where that quick I figure they were like civic si and I know for a fact a 305hp v6 challeneger with the 8 speed trans is a little faster then an si
NGL, the only reason to buy an ILX in its 9th year of production is for its reliability, not for drag racing. The Mazda should win this by a very large margin, possibly the biggest in your channel's history. EDIT: I was wrong, that was a lot closer than it should've been. Mazda should be so embarrassed.
Lol you obviously have never driven an ILX. It is a very quick car and 0-60 times are very similar compared to the mazda. The only way the mazda will win by a large margin is if the ILX spins. That 6 speed transmission in that mazda is extremely slow to shift by the time it shifts that DCT prolly shifted twice already.
@@ilx_ben3680 I've driven the ILX 2.4. The DCT is very quick, and that 2.4L VTEC sounds great, I'll give you that much, ILX_Ben, but 0-60 it's about a second slower. I expect the Mazda to win by at least 5 car lengths.
@@TheBreakfastLover its only a second slower if it spins but it also depends how many miles you are above sea level. Because thats where n/a motors lose a lot of their power.
I own a 2020, white pearl ilx premium. It is a fun little car. The dct is quick and the engine is quite peppy in sport. It has been replaced by the 1.5l turbo with a cvt or manual.
The ILX was not running on premium fuel, plus it had after market wheels and still preformed that well. Its a crazy simple, weird beast of a vehicle to me. Love the ILX, bought one and dang love it for a commuter, everyday car. Change the oil and transmission fluid normally and it will go forever, so scary simplistic to me with that NA K engine and 8speed DCT.
You still don't know how to use this 2.5T engine. First, put on 91 octane at least, using for 2-3 times full tank to let the ECU knows the change, and you HAVE TO use manual shifter to get a later RPM shift point. As a AWD, you have to launch start and build the turbo boost at the same time. By the way, I am live in Ontario, I don't mind to teach you how to drive this car.
Good now we can see acceleration measures by Dragy. Also it shows how dry acceleration numbers don’t mean it will be same on road. Dragy showed big difference in numbers between cars but on road they were almost same🤔
Sam this video was great! I really like how u do roll and dig races. Specially in some of ur videos where u match AWD VS FWD. u do dig to show AWD advantage but u also do rolls to show the Fwd Advantage and how close they can be on highway. I’m talking about ur videos in general. One thing though sam. PLEASE BRING THE MUSIC BACK
I have 2019 ILX as well but the result surprised me. I was expecting better performance from Mazda 3 by advantage of 250 HP /AWD/ Turbo Engine except disadvantage of weight. I would say congratulations to ILX for the result against the Mazda3. (Thanks to Vtech and Dual Clutch 8Speed Transmission on ILX)
The 250 rating is 93 octane with no dilution. I doubt they ran 2-3 tanks of 93 through it before the test, meaning it was def down on power. R&T and other outlets tested the 21/22 Turbo 3's with undiluted 93 and it ran consistent 5.9-6.1 sec 0-60's. We also don't know the elevation here. 7 secs is what the N/A 19-23 Mazda 3's run.
New intro is cool! The draggy runs are awesome now we can actually see their time for the 1/4 mile which is a huge things for the car guys. Keep them coming 👍🏽
Sam...Love the new intro...music and graphics...Reminds me of the tv show... "The Six Million Dollar Man" from back in the day...keep up the great work...
Yes the speed for quarter miles are important because Dodge Chargers will loose 1/4 races but have higher trap speeds meaning it was coming just had to get all that weight going
for anyone shaming the Mazda 3 for “poor performance”, keep in mind the ILX has a Dual Clutch Transmission and an 8 Speed Automatic, that’s why it was able to keep up with the Mazda 3. Mazda 3 doesn’t have poor performance, it just has an outdated transmission.
With update trany will be even better but even with the old trany it is poor on accelration because zero spin with 310 vs180 lbs torque i expect more and from a roll the ilx just a tik slower
@@waavydev it performed well for its time. it’s like saying a 1965 mustang has poor performance, no it does not, it just need revisions, upgrades and updates.
@@michaelflops Its a 2021 Mazda 3, not a 1965 Mazda 3. They have the option of equipping it to today's tech and chose not to (for valid cost reasons I'm sure) but deserve the scrutiny either way.
I’m surprised… I thought the Acura would’ve lost big on this one. Especially since it has 49 less horsepower & almost half the torque. But it kept up for most part. The upcoming Integra should be impressive when it comes out.
The new intro and editing is great . I think it’s better when it’s more subtle , I can definitely see myself rewatching the intro without skipping . The other one was getting a little old .
Very interesting video and result! I would have thought the Mazda 3 Turbo would smoke the ILX with an extra 50hp and 130lb of torque. Just a small comment though, the ILX has a base price of $26500 USD and that model already comes with the same 201hp 8AT combo.
@@eucmike it all depends on elevation and many other factors my Q50 red sports it’s a 4.5 sec car and were I live due to the high elevation the best I gotten so far is 5.3
Yes its not using 93 octane for sure which makes a difference in the car's hp / tq and also you can brake boost the Mazda to get a better launch because its not a dct . Both items would have made a considerable difference
mazda3 turbo iss pretty much one of the few sub 35k awd subcompact sedans with awd so I'm not surprised that it won 2/3 times. granted it wasn't great but still
i got a 2020 ilx and its fast in this video it had a good run mazda had 50hp more and the ilx was still close and where can i get that ilx steering wheel i like that carbon
Take one curve or corner and you will instantly know where the extra money goes in the Acura. They handle like a dream. How many early 2000's mazdas do you see driving around (maybe a miata but no proteges)? How many old TLs and CL's do you see driving around? Acuras last.
I dunno, that's really the majority I see around my area in Seattle is older Mazda 3s and protege5s, Acuras are usually down with check engine lights in a rich guys front yard
The ILX has a beautiful sounding engine and takes off like a dream (when it doesnt jerk) but just like the Chevy Cruz feeling fast does not equal fast... Its perfect for city driving though and is super nimble around curves! Very fund to drive!
After owning a 3 turbo hatch for about 6 months I can point out a couple of things that I noticed about the vid: First, I can tell that the Mazda is not running 93 octane to get the full 250hp. Second: the 3 is awd. Do a brake launch. Hold it to about 2000rpm and do a propper launch. 7 seconds to 60mph is way off from what myself and others are getting. Should be about 5.6-5.8 to 60mph easy.
Is a dct really that much better? I'm going to say it was the VTEC lol edit: plus weight and dct all played into it so a combination of it all... love when your videos surprise me!
It sounded like the ILX was brake-torquing the launch but it didn’t sound that way in the Mazda. You would think the Mazda would always be out front in the beginning with all that torque.
2 factors in this race, first is that I'm sure Sam did not do brake boost which on a regular automatic you can do. Second is it looks like regular and not 93 octane gas was used for the race based on the draggy times for the Mazda as it does low 6's on Premium gas.
Can you do a drag & rollrace comparison between the MKV 2021 Supra against a stock 10 speed Mustang GT? I feel like it would be one of the best comparisons you could do between them considering how BMW tends to underrate their vehicles from the factory, and also just in general in what I would like to see personally :)
