2021 Trek Emonda SL 5 Road Bike Review and Weight | Light, Fast, & Aero

I am a pretty new cyclist and upgraded from a FX3 to this Emonda SL5 a couple months ago. It is an amazing bike and has really pushed me to train harder and be able to take full advantage of it. Upgrading the wheels and tires (and going tubeless) is the next upgrade for the bike but as of now I am just focused on upgrading myself!

I have this bike, wheels are over 2kgs, I've changed them with a better bontrager set, now setup is better. I like riding this bike, especially this color is amazing. There are light blue veins inside the parliament blue parts... great paint job. If you upgrade the seatmast, handlbar and the seat, this bike can easily go below 8

Liked! Really like the STI shifter details for newer riders that was very nice of you. Love the Emonda, but not a fan of the new heft. It's heavier than my 2019 size XL Vitus. I guess that's due to all the stock aluminum parts & steel rails you mentioned but that's still heavy for such an expensive bike. I still love this bike even though their disc only, hope to buy one & go broke on lightweight parts lol. Because purple.

Nice vid! I recently purchased an SL6 Pro (in red and black) and it's the best bike I've ever had. So comfortable and fast.

Nice video as I’m in the market for maybe my last road bike purchase as an older rider. I am between the Emonda SL5 and the Dominie SL6! I prefer the SL6 as my number 1 choice. I like the fit and the 11-34 cassette and Uterga group set better but not the $4000:00 price tag. Weight is about the same on both bikes! Love the red Dominie SL6 color better then the Emonda SL5 but like the price better at $2999:00 so it’s my number 2 choice. The Dominie SL5 ($3200:00) is my number 3 choice and would be a closer comparative to the Emonda SL5 but I don’t prefer it as it is not offered in the bright red and is about 1 1/2 lbs heavier which is a little too heavy. That is actually 2 pounds heavier than my current 11 year old aluminum road bike ready to ride. So I would rather have a bike about the same weight or lighter then what I’m currently riding. It all depends on which bike becomes available in my area due to the bike shortage! If the Emonda SL5 became available I would change out the cassette to 11-34 and could tolerate the silver one. If it came in red and based on price it would become my number 1 choice. I wouldn’t mind riding any of the three but I really want a red bike LOL! I know its kind of silly! I compromise and bought a blue Trek 2.1 over a red 2.3 due to price when I bought my first road bike and have regretted it ever since! So if I can get my hands on the red Dominie SL6 during this years riding season that’s what I’m getting. My Trek 2.1 road bike has been in the shop for a chain and cassette replacement for over a month so I’ll be glad when I get it back and am ready for this bike shortage to end! My two mountain bikes have been doing double duty!

Just weighed my first gen emonda Alr, with ultegra (7000?), 5800brakes: 17.5lb with pedals, cages, computer mount, and aluminum flo 30 wheels. (54cm). My carbon road bike is about 2 lb lighter than that. I bought both bikes for less than 1 new emonda. I suppose, just because they share the name “emonda” doesn’t mean they share the same product positioning. I’m sure the new bike is comfy. But, I enjoy what I’ve got…I guess. There is a used version of this bike in one of the local shops, maybe I’ll at least give it a spin to see what it’s all about. Lesson for me: keep looking for sweet used bikes. Especially rim brake road bikes.

I was at Bikefactory, they sell trek bikes here in Hawaii. This bike weighs 21 lbs? I think my Cannondale CAAD10 105 is lighter than this thing. But then, its a little older, about 10 years old, and I picked up that bike off someone on the facebook marketplace. This Trek bike is a nice bike though and it looks fast. I might pick it up during the holidays, I think they might have a deal on this then and I can perhaps, possibly get it cheaper.

I picked this bike up a couple weeks ago and it's freakin amazing, although, I did upgrade the cockpit, seat mast, saddle and wheels. Aside from that, the bike outperforms my expectations. The way it brakes, carves into corners and puts the power down is 👌. It's not the lightest bike (oclv 500), but as an all-rounder it's phenomenal.

I want this bike. Probably the best you can get in that price range. I want to upgrade from my 10 year old Scott. Your review made me wanting it even more.

I remember when the Emonda was a lightweight bike! Now it’s heavier than many gravel bikes. This cannot be described as a lightweight climbing bike anymore!

I've got this beast in a 54 (so glad I sized down) with Zipp 303S rims and 30mm tubeless Pro One's. It is absolutely faultless. Stunning bike, eats hill climbs. I don't need Ultegra when 105 is this good

I like the aero and clean cabling but affraid it might be too heavy. How would this compare (uphill) to a non-aero bike that is lighter?

I still need to go see them in person, but after researching and researching and researching... I've narrowed my decision down between the Emonda Sl 5 or Sl6....or the tarmac sl6 sport.... the emonda looks so much better, but for the same price the tarmac is already 2 pounds lighter... but both can be cut way down over time.... wheels, groupo, handlebars, saddle..... so tbh i dont really know what to think. I had really wanted a canyon ultimate, but tbh it makes me nervous as fuk to spend that kinda money and simply be dealing with online people located wherever.

I cant decide if this bike is better than going with a similar giant or specialize bike

Def not light. I just measured my size 54 emonda sl5 with two flat pedals + replaced my saddle to PRO Stealth carbon Saddle and it weighs 21lb (9.5kg). Unless I go with a pair of carbon rims I don't think I can't reduce it further.

trek really messed up the new emonda.. the weight is in gravel bike territory and some hardtail mtbs are lighter... the full suspension supercaliber xtr mtb is about the same weight.. so, the emonda doesnt excel at weight, aero, endurance, or value for price
