Thank you for this very interesting video that you probably hep me ... I hesitate between a emonda sl6 pro and and a tcr advanced 1 pro disc. I really like both, prefer the emonda shape but also very concerned by its weight and geometry. I'm 1.72 and the recommanded size 54 seemed to me really too long...and ...damned... more 9kgs for a climbing bike ... what would you advice me ?
ummm I think you can try a 54 but with a shorter stem?? Or a 52 but put a slightly longer stem. Maybe 52 works well because i ride a 52 as well. yea this emonda is the lower spec'd one with 105. So im sure a higher end model with more carbon parts, like handlebar and stem will lower the weigtht :)
Great review! due to the low availability in the bike stores, which other brand models would you recommend as an alternative to the emonda sl5? thank you!
Just got the blue version, absolutely love it. Did yours come with the aero spacers on the head tube? Mine doesn't have those and I was told that was an upgrade.
Thanks very much for a well made video review. Questions I always have is that 1) the more aggressive geometry road bikes like the Madone has always made me shy away because of the forward back bending and the neck pull up (to look at the traffic). How is the Emonda compared to the Domane as far as body posture is concerned? 2) What is the lowest seat to crank shaft (center) measurement? (for my legs, this needs to be 26.5 - 27 inches)
Hey , thanks for the comments. The domane is much more relaxed. It is also more comfortable due to the iso speed which is missing on the emonda. Both bikes can be set up more aggressive/relaxed. But generally speaking the domane posture is more like a city hybrid and the emonda will have a more aggressive position similar to the madone. And sorry i cant answer your question 2 for you. :(
Hey my inseam is like 76cm . Im not too sure about my arm length. But i ride a 52 as well with a 100mm stem on my TCR. The 54 emonda fits me as well. I think 52 would be the better size for you and put a longer stem like me :)
Maybe a little late, but im gonna write it anyway. The size chart on the TREK website is quite messed up. I am 171 cm tall and so according to their chart I should get a 54 which is just stupid. I would normally ride a 50 or a 51. I advise you to go for size 50. The chart there says something else but if you would check the geometry with any other bike brand, you will realize that there's a huge mistake in the TREK charts.
This generations emonda definitely feels better than the previous generation. The previous generation mostly had the H2 fit, which was less aggressive. Now most treks have the H1.5 fit, which i like more. This emonda is really fun to ride :)
Sorry about the poor mic quality, had some technical issues, as well as being a bit short on time. Couldn't get as much content as i wanted to. Hope you guys will find this video useful, and as always feel free to leave me a question and ill answer them as soon as possible. Cheers !! RIDE ON!
I think it should be alright, You are probably going to fit with either 52 or 50, so I believe both sizes should work, kinda depends on which size feels better for you. My inseam is around 78 and i can fit 52 and 54
which is better for climbing emonda or tcr base in your experience? do you think if i upragde the emonda with di2 ultegra and better tires it will match the tcr adv pro 0?
In my opinion, the TCR frame is still stiffer than the Emonda. So in that aspect the TCR should be better for climbing. Emonda is more aerodynamic for sure. And yes if you upgrade the emonda with carbon wheels and DI2 parts it should be comparable :) Hope that helps.
@@pattnwia how do you compare the ride quality between these bikes? I currently have an Allez Sprint rim brake. I added cf everything (seat, bars, stem, wheels). I was thinking of buying an Emonds sl5 disc to compliment my Allez. Are they too similar?
@@ayowser01 Oh Hey, I had an Allez sprint rim brake too! It was such a nice bike super stiff but also very rough to ride, I can feel all of the vibrations. I personally think the SL5 and the Sprint are two completely different bikes. I am 99% sure if you have the SL5, you will barely ride the Allez sprint. Think of the Allez like a FRS and the SL5 like a mercedes sports car. The SL5 will be much smoother ride, lighter and faster, if not just as fast
I would say its a pretty decent deal right now. You get a really great performing bike. IMO giant has the best value for money. Trek is pretty good too These days bikes are low in stock and prices are increasing, so i would probably secure any bike that you like ASAP. Good luck on your IM 70.3!!
Oh also your bike came with Giant tires b/c they're tubeless compatible. Maybe the shop didn't have tubeless Bontragers. Either way it's still a dope bike.
Nick, Patts Bikes is right on with size 54. I'm 5'8 and size 54 is a must for me. My foot can hit the front tire (balancing at the stop light) and I feel squished with size 52. (Unless you have unusual short legs and long backs, that's another story).
@@osvaldoarayacespedes3084 hmmm I ride that on my TCR too, and I am ok. Hmmmm I'm not too sure then :/. But wobble will be mostly due to wheelset and not frame
They are about the same, if they had the same tire and pressure the emonda has bigger tires on, so in this case whichever has the wider tire will be more comfy :)
@@pattnwia Hey thanks for your time to reply! Im trying to compare this 2 frames, since ill be taking frames only. How does the feel of the ride between 2 of them?
How does the 54cm frame size feel for you? I am 176cm and don't know whether to go for the 54cm or 56cm. Leaning towards the 54 as we speak. Thanks Patt
Hey 54 is a perfect size for me. Because i have shorter legs, i can fit on both 52 and 54 perfectly fine. I prefer to ride a smaller frame because it will be lighter and more nimble. I would say go for the 54. It will offer more performance over the 56 cm. Hope that helps
Hi hesitate a long time between Emonda sl5 and giant tcr but i choose definitively emonda for blue color for look and his good transmission... i choose a size 54 for 1m76
Yea i think 52 would be a good size. It depends on your inseam, and reach. You might need a longer stem if you go for size 52. but height wise i think 52 is a good fit
@@pattnwia i see, thanks! Im stumbling between the emonda and domane. Many says for better comfort and long ride better go for domane. But emonda on the other hand better in climbing. Tough choice indeed
@@fookaiwai Yea! Hard choice indeed. I personally would choose the emonda, that is just my riding style. I have tried the Domane (you can check out my review video on it) Its really comfortable and full of features. But i still prefer the race feel of a bike :)
@@fookaiwai No problem :) and correct !! Everyone is different so my choice may not be your choice. Good luck with the bike search !! let me know which one you end up choosing :)
Hello sir, i am planning to get this bike. I am 5'10 with around 31.5- 32ish inseam. According to the website the size 56 comes with a taller seatmast cap? Does that make a difference? Should i get a size 54 or a size 56? Thank you.
Yes the shorter seat mast cap might not be able to be adjusted high enough. So they make the bigger sizes with a longer seatmast to allow higher seatpost adjustments. I think a 56 will fit you right, but if you want to be a bit more aggressive potion, try the 54, maybe you can ask them to swap the 54 with a longer seatmast for a better fit. hope that helps
You can put some pretty wide tires on this frame. So i in a sense, YES. Bikes are getting more versatile. Dedicated gravel bikes have different gearing and different geometry but you can make this emonda "gravel-road hybrid"
@@pattnwia Yeah but you have 105 groupset which is heavy, non-carbon seat cap and Wahoo bike computer and pedals. If you want light then get the SLR SL7. About 7 kg without pedals in 54cm frame and although expensive, not superbike expensive.
It’s definitely heavy compared to other bikes in its class. A comparably priced TCR is significantly lighter for instance. I like the looks and aero features, but I am Not convinced the extra weight is worth it.
This bike is over 9kg normally which is obscene for a climbing bike! Even with the upgraded wheels it’s still 9kg basically! A climbing bike should be under 7kg! I think I would take your TCR before this!
giant tcr have got weight to 8,35 kgs without pedals...so its approximatively the same bikes giant tcr and emonda...and i like better emonda for 34x50 than tcr 36x52 😎
8.95Kg that's so heavy. You're supposed to weigh the bike without the pedals and cages. Do you know the weight without the pedals and bottle 🍼🍼 cages ?
tbh im not even sure you can call an emonda a climbing bike anymore, there are xc hardtail mtbs that weigh less.. they really messed up by trying to make it more aero and disc brake only
@@pattnwia ahh man I’m delighted it’s a size 54 also feels small but I am only 173cm so should be good..think I just need to raise the saddle ha..love it doh some machine
