Clarification: the reason why the GTR was in manual shift mode during rolls was because the M550i has a sport transmission which drops the gears during roll race. The GTR has a much different system where it won’t do that as quickly. We did tests, the auto rolls GTR was way behind, 6 speed vs 8 speed. 😅! Just to make it more fair.
Nice! Translation: The GTR takes too long to kick down in fully automatic mode, vs the BMW in fully automatic mode. So, you went with the fastest mode vs fastest mode. One using paddles to shift, the other without. In other words, it's how two guys would race, if they saw each other on the street and decided to race. The GTR owner would know that manual mode works best for racing, while the BMW owner knows that letting the car do it is best for racing.
Buy a M5 and you are faster. ;) You are right, this result was unexpected. Alpina build an estate Version with 608 hp and a topspeed of 200 miles/322 kph. really impressive and a want to have car for me.
@@TheBreakfastLover it’s really in between a family sedan and a true high performance sedan. I mean I’ve driven a plain m5 and it’s really muted. So in terms of 5 series sedans M5CS>M5C>M5>M550i>540i
A Nissan V6 from 2008 can still hold its own by today's standards?? That's crazy. Anyone who knows about the M550i knows how fast it is with the BMW TT V8 and Xdrive. Get a Ferrari or Lambo from 14 years ago and I bet it's not doing as well against this M550i. That GTR engine is impressive still this many years later.
I often overlook the "baby M-models" that BMW has, but I 100% agree that the M550i probably gives a better value than the M5. The 2 are almost so similar, yet the main difference is that you'll keep more money in your pocket when you walk out the dealership.
@@CP-vg4vy it’s not obsolete. For one thing, the M550 can’t be switched to RWD mode. It also won’t beat the RS7, much less the E63 out of the box. The M5 will also hold better resale just for the name alone.
@@alstoundindeed better resale value. You save money upfront but lose on sale. I’m speaking from a pre owned buying standpoint. I got a 2020 m550i cpo and plan on trading it in a year for a m5c 2021 cpo
@@Sickwitit18 thing is, GTR is sold as a legit sports car. BMW is sold as a luxury sedan that is tamer than the performance variant of that model line.
@@Sickwitit18 it’s the same v6 as 2008 yes but over the years it’s had horsepower increases. Currently it’s 565 hp and 600 for nismo but when it came out in 2008 I think it had 475 ish
incredible how an engine from 2009 on the gtr is still beating 2022 bmw’s that have 2 more cylinders and is also twin turbod with over a decade of newer technology, gtr is truly a masterpiece and was way ahead of its time
@@reyfuentes4572 no it hasn’t lmfao it’s a completely different engine then the f10 m5 and f10 m550’s that gtr engine has been the same since 2009, same heads, same pistons, same everything lmfao
@@KaiSpeedshopancient but buildable AF. You can’t add the same amount of horsepower to a m5 easily or as consistent and safe as a GTR. I’m a m550i owner btw
This is the same platform from 2009 that high performance cars from 2022 can’t keep up with. Hats off to the M550i i think the GTR had potential to widen the gap .
What a gross overstatement. One is a base price $114k quasi supercar and the other a mild hood performance four door sedan that costs $80k base price. So yeah, the fact that the gtr platform goes back to 2009 is fairly irrelevant.
@@Bimmer_Bill it’s not. You brought up their price for what? They’re still very similar in horsepower and other specs otherwise the race is pointless altogether.
@@balmainattitude the point is the gtr is on the level of a Porsche 911 that’s a different ballgame than a semi high performance four door sedan. You do realize within the 5 series the m550i is fourth in the pecking order behind the M5CS, M5C, and M5, right?
I mean this is exactly what I predicted both are amazing cars. Curious to see how the GTR runs with an F90 M5 but I’m almost certain the M5 will walk it
@@terrypace2134 mmm in tests that I’ve seen the nismo is maybe a tenth of a second faster than the regular one so that is debatable lol would be interesting to see nonetheless
@@terrypace2134 It's amazing how people trying to justify a legit super car with a 4 door sedan and the fact it has to be the top of the line model (Nismo). LOL
Great race as much as I like the GTR but an actual M5 Competition would have destroyed the GTR. Nonetheless the M550i held up very good for a 4-door sedan.
Cool comparrison. According to metrics the GTR had it in the bag, its lighter with more power and has dual clutch auto vs trans converter-auto, the M550i held its own. Respect BMW. Id like to mention the M550i for less than 5k in mods(tune and downpipes) makes over 650hp to the tire. The GTR for 5k in mods you get an exhaust lol🤭🍻 id like to add this GTR isnt even facing the M5 Comp, technically there are three higher performance versions of the 5, the M5 at 600hp and the M5 Comp at 617hp and as stated in the replies the rare M5 Cs with 627hp.
Don't forget you're comparing a brand new BMW TT V8 with xDrive versus a Nissan V6 built in 2008. That's 14 years old. You have to give props to both, but for the GTR to have an engine that is still competitive 14 years later is crazy. Try a Ferrari or Lambo from 14 years ago, that Nissan is very impressive
gracias por el video. el GTR de fabrica ya es rapido y se puede reprogramar para que tenga mas torque y potencia. eso lo hace diferente al resto. mas alla de que el tren motriz sea ya de varios años atras. sigue siendo un vehiculo increible.
Just curious Sam why are you never put any of the quarter-mile times up on the screen for people to see what you guys ran on these cars. The videos are great, I love the races but you really should start putting up some stats so people can see what the quarter-mile times are. Might be something you want to think about starting to do thanks
I love that m550i my goal is to trade in my 440i grand coupe for a m5cs in like 5 years or if there is something cooler for the same price during that time
Wow! Sam, look, I'm so lucky for liking and commenting. Bizarre when the commentor actually knows the RU-vidr. Makes these scams look comically stupid.
@@georgeboateng7502 it's an M550i which is still a fast car by today's standards. That GTR has the same V6 from 2008 lol. Any TT V8 from BMW, especially with xDrive, is a beast
Curious were you manually shifting the BMW? Seemed like you were just using the automatic. It seemed like the Nissan was shifting manually and could be the part of the reason it won because he definitely was shifting more aggressively
The fact that the powertrain on the GTR is over 10yrs old and can still keep up with sports and super cars of today is just amazing to me. Indeed the GTR still deserves the respect. Hats off to the M550 though.
I'd take the bmw any day just because I'm huge on comfort and practicality. The gtr is impressive but I've just outgrown those kind of cars. With close runs here, on a race track it's safe to say the gtr might probably overlap the m550i 😂.
I totally totally relate when you say you’ve “outgrown” those cars. The cars, the negative attention, the police always on your bumper, and all of the irresponsible drivers that misrepresent the scene. I’m currently trading in the process of trading my Scatpack WB Challenger for all the reasons you mentioned above
@@kd4029 hey if it helps, aside from the reasons you mentioned, the challenger is destined to fall appart on you from the inside like my charger rt did. It's just a matter of time. I love the mopar motors but yhe rest of the car is a cheap piece of crap. You're doing the right thing here
@@grapeeggplant3863 man! Thank you for confirming that I made the choice. You’re right, the engines are wonderful and strong and sound amazing but there’s sooooo much more to the driving experience. Should finally be trading in this weekend. Im excited!
I had a custom ordered 21 M550 for about 18 months. Loved the car, but once gas prices spiked, I had to get rid of it. It was getting like 12-14mpg and for $5.xx a gallon, I just couldn't justify keeping it. I'll probably pick up a 2020, when my X3 lease is up, if gas prices drop back below $4.00. 2020 is tuneable, where the 21 isn't, so its preferable. Carbahn is making 707hp, 711ft/lbs on their tune, which should easily conquer a GT-R.
You sold a car because gas prices went up $2 😂😂😂 yo wtf my guy you’re crazy for that. I had a trackhawk back when prices were that high it was crazy but that didn’t last long. I now have a 2020 m550i and loving it. You should go for the 2021 m5 again if you want to hold value and don’t worry they have a unlock to tune the 21+ cars now
@@scott8193 No regrets. I actually like the X3. I don't have to be as careful driving it with less power and a cheaper pricetag. With the 550, as well as my old X5M and 750, I was finding myself driving super careful, not wanting to damage a $100k car. A $70k one doesn't seem to be as big a deal. Unfortunately the unlocks for the 21s involves sending both DMEs to FEMTO in Finland, them unlocking them and sending them back. Costs about $3,000 ($3600 for the M5) and the car is down for 2 weeks. Plus, if the dealer reflashes anything, you gotta do it again. Way too much trouble. I already have the dealer looking for a 2020 M550 or X5 M50i for me, fully loaded with low miles. It seems cars with the rear steering are extremely rare in the US, for whatever reason, so I'm giving them plenty of time to find one. We'll see what happens
Wow, who would have thought, one of the fastest accelerating sports cars of it's era, would be slightly faster than a large, family, 4 door saloon with 4 huge seats and a massive boot.
@@giocoby The M550i engine is from 2008. The GTR was designed to rival the Porsche 991 turbo S, and be one of if not THE fastest 2 door sports cars on the planet. The M550i isn't even the fastest BMW 5 series family saloon, or the 2nd fastest either lol. You're fanyboyism has backfired like a thrashed Nissan. The M5C destroys the GTR, even my 1 series with a straight 6 and only one twin scroll turbo is almost as fast. And they are both just family cars. Leant a bit about the cars you are fanboying, and the cars you are criticising before you embarrass yourself any more.
@@billnye5183 Indeed. I sold my last BMW with 144k on it, still perfectly fine, even the interior looked mint. I bought it at around 78k and only serviced it, but had to put 2 new rear shocks on, and a crank position sensor. I think that's pretty good.
What. These are two different cars. 4 door luxury sedan and a 2 door sports car, borderline supercar if it was more expensive lol. Why would you buy a GTR if the car you're looking at a series 5 lmao.
I believe the 8speed makes a difference, only because man is still shifting into higher gears and gtr been done so like i mean i dont know good races!!
The fact that the GT-R is still out here taking the win is still amazing! Especially when you think about how long the GT-R has been out on the market!! Heck yea GT-R!
The handling on the BMW is OK at best and the steering is over assisted and it feels very disconnected from the road. BMW had great steering around 9 years ago.
