In today's Silverado update - I install the Kicker subwoofer system + the Kicker Bass Controller as well. Flipping the gains to up on the amp - as well as adding the Kicker controller really makes this subwoofer kit shine!

Thanks for this video, I found it really helpful for removing trim pieces and wiring. Saw some comments about a different amp. I just bought my system a week ago and will confirm the amp has changed. There are no gain switches and no place to plug in the control knob. Install was incredibly straight forward using this video and the instructions from the QR code. Easiest install I’ve ever done. Kudos to GM for the pre supplied fire wall access! After testing it out, adding this sub to the Bose system really makes a huge difference, and sounds great, perfect for my needs. The sub is integrated well and you can control the base level via the equalizer audio settings.

@@bonecrrusherSS Yes and I checked last night and for sure no place to plug in the kicker knob volume control and no gain switches on the amp. I’ll just take the knob back to Best Buy and get refund. Hope it sounds as good as the one I had in my Trailboss in 2020.

Glad I could help - when I first looked at it - I missed them as well. Took that 2 screws out and boom - that rubber piece came off and I was able to adjust them.

FYI, I just bought one online directly from gm and had it shipped to a local dealer, picked it up today. The amp does have the remote bass control port as well as the "adjustable" gain switches. Paperwork included stated Rev E and was dated this past July of 2023; so, these other amps are still out there. I wasnt sure if i would get this style or the nonadjustable as others have received.

Just got off the phone with Kicker. The guy at tech support said that the chip shortage during covid impacted the amp that was included in this package. He said that for a while during covid, the amp was changed to the one that does not allow for the bass controller. But... he also said that they were able to switch back in late 2023. On the side of the box there should be a sticker from Kicker that shows the month and year of manufacture. On mine, the GM serial tag is on the box right next to Kicker's. So, anything from late 2021-late 2023 will NOT have the ability to add the bass control, and anything from pre 2021, and 2024 forward will allow for this addition. For what it's worth - he also said the amp they temporarily used during covid has a bit more output. He said he's heard them side-by-side, and actually preferred the sound better from the covid amp. Mine is May 2023, so I'm stuck without the controller. I'm probably the only person here that wanted it so I could turn it down, as I have an infant and a toddler that I was hoping to be able to turn it down for, rather than wanting it so I could max it out...

I think the amp without the controller is tied to the bass levels in the head unit. I got my stereo new in box in 2023 - so it was probably from 2022.

So for those wondering what the sound is like without moving all of the amp switches to the "up" position with the bass knob, let me say this. Without moving the switch, you have to turn the head unit EQ up quite a bit to get a decent amount of bass from the sub. Problem is the console (stock) sub will start to sound a bit harsh. At certain volume levels the sound is good and balanced but nothing special. At high volume, not enough punch. Keep in mind I had to turn the bass knob up about 90% for decent results. I then tried the sound the adjustments (switches up) and what a difference! Bass knob about 45-50% and I can turn down the head unit's EQ (bass) down about 45-50%. Much improved. Be cautious however because according to Kicker, any changes to the amp will void the warranty. Overall I would rate the sound a 5 out of 10 w/out the adjustment and a 7.5-8.0 out of 10 with the change. BonecrusherSS, thanks for the video!!

Thanks for the honest feedback - that helps out everyone that finds this video. I have my sub turned to about 75% - it is a bit loud for some songs and I probably should turn it down - but haven't bothered too.

Do you by chance have a part number for that amp? I just recently installed this kit on my 2020 and the amp they sent doesn’t have the option for a bass knob and I’m trying to hunt one of these down. Also with you having the base knob does that mean the sub bass output is controlled separately from your door speakers and the head unit?

You can't expect alot from a 200 w system. The cost to me isn't worth the one I've heard. I feel people are better off getting a t harness and running whatever sub and box they like.

I'm having this same unit installed today at the dealership. They called me earlier to let me know the 3.5mm jack for the external bass adjustment that I took with me and asked them to plug it iin does not exist in the amp nor are there any dip switches for gain. I called Kicker support and they confirmed the new sub units no longer have them and all adjustments come from the head unit. I also learning there's "programming" required from the dealer at the time of install. This is on a new 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

does your truck have the BOSE sub in the center console? My 2018 Does and sounds pretty Good; maybe even better than my 2006 GMC yukon with BOSE and the Y91 LUX upgrade with navigation radio.

Splice connectors came with the Subwoofer kit. Only thing I ordered extra was the Bass control knob.

Thanks for the excellent video. it helped me greatly with installing mine. Does the light on your amp stay on all the time? I have a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4. It's the refreshed model with the 13.4 inch center touchscreen and I have the Bose audio system. Installed the sub and it's working fine however the green indicator light on the amp never turns off. I have the main power connected to the battery as instructed and the only other connections are the ground in the right kick panel and the green/brown harness connected to the yell/yellow-black wires also in the right kick panel. Is this light supposed to stay on all the time even when the truck is completely off? It stays illuminated even after I open a door and disable the retained accessory power. I assume the light means the amp is on and even though it's idle with no sound, won't this drain the battery? Did you ever confirm what that extra grey/green convector was for? Is it for the amp for the non Bose models?

I'll be honest - I'm not even sure mine has an LED on it. LED use very little power and shouldn't kill your battery. Mines been in almost a year and no issues. That unused harness - I never plugged it in.

If it helps anyone I reached out to Stillwater Designs/Kicker. Regarding the light on the amp, they said 'You are seeing the green light on the amplifier when you open the door because the amp uses DC offset to turn on and off so anytime the amp sees signal it will turn on, when you open the door the audio control module will turn on for door chimes etc. which will in return turn on the amp.' They also said the green/brown 2 pin connector is not used for this kit, the harness is used in multiple units and that is where a secondary amplifier would plug in but in this case it will not be used. Regarding the 46CXARC remote bass control....the amp in the newer 19417164 kits does not have a 3.5mm plug so you can't use the remote bass control.

@@bouncer58 I learned that the kits that have the control port plug on the amp, have the female harness socket on the amp and the amps that have the pigtail plug coming out of them, do not have the bass control port plug. I just bought a used one for my truck and am going to install it soon. Kicker told me that their new batches of kits will start including those ports plugs again.

Pain in the ass to get those reward points refunded. I called a few dealerships in my area and found one that had 1 in stock. I got very lucky.

No - it doesn't get the adjustment correct - you really need the Kicker controller, and the switches turned all up on the amp.

Just installed this. Id say the knob is mandatory. The stock setting on the dip switches gives you slight bump, even at 2 up it's overpowering the doors and I haven't tried 3. Waiting on the bass knob. Pretty easy install. However I did notice the amp for the kicker is always on. This the same for you?

@@rodepost Actually I figured out that unless the dip switches are gonna be changed or 'turned on' the controller isn't needed. I have the controller and with it all turned up, it is what the setting is by default without the controller. So the controller, if you don't adjust the dip switches which voids the warranty, only has the ability to lower the power. It is my experience, that you don't want to lower the power anymore than from default. So I have mine plugged in and on full right next to the unit as it doesn't need adjusted.

Great video. I just got my 2023 Denali Ultimate and I really want to add this. Parts department says it’s not available for the Denali Ultimate and found out today that my VIN does not have the RPO code IBP with allows this to be compatible. I’m crossing my fingers it is something that will end up being available, but the information is hard to squeeze out of anyone at GMC. I’m bummed, to say the least.

@justinpower6449 no I do not but the ultimate has 12 speakers.....my 22 at4 refresh only has 7. I am assuming with the 5 extra speakers the Ultimate has there must be a decent Subwoofer already. Ultimate is going to be superior I would think no matter what.

I can confirm that the part you will get today from GM does not have dip switches or a place to connect a bass knob. I will be installing mine this weekend (dealer needed my truck for 3 days to install it for some reason) so hoping it makes a big difference as-is.

Late last year/early this year the GM # was discontinued. Looks like they redesigned it and updated it with out the switches or the input.

I can't for the life of me figure out why they'd have us use the passenger side rear speaker line rather than the center console sub line for sub amp input. Any ideas? You're only getting right channel info to the sub

As I mentioned - there is an additional amp/wire that you need to plug into. I think this system will work with the non bose as long as you buy that additional amp.

I have non bose refresh and it does not have the second amp. Just the subwoofer and small amp attached. It did come with dipswitches and bass knob connect input. Dealer tapped into front left speaker.

@@Jetzetta depends what your looking for. If you just want a little more bass and don't want to take up a bunch of room it's OK. But depending on the song. Some have alot of bass and others leaves you wanting more. I got gm to give to me for free. If I payed for it I would be disappointed. And would get a better system.

I just want to put out there that you do not need the extra amplifier if you do not have Bose speakers. I went with the cheaper kicker set up, the one that does not come with the extra amplifier. The base is superb, in my opinion do not spend the extra money to run an extra amplifier and yes, the base is controllable from the head unit. You do not need a bass knob, a lot ofpeople don’t know that

Thanks for sharing! The knob was an option - then not an option - and now I hear it is an option again depending on what amp you get with your subwoofer. They've changed that small box 2 or 3 times now.

I actually just installed mine like 1 hour ago and those little red connector's wrap around the wire and I pinched them together with pliers it's actually pretty simple. That was actually the part I was fearing. Hope this helps.

As mentioned the wire splices click shut - then you plug the terminal into it. Use a pair of needle nose pliers if you need more grip.

I put all the switches up on the amp and I added the bass knob u recommended. Turned on the system and the bass works but it seems like it’s barely working. Even when I crank up the radio and the bass switch. I’m assuming somethings not right. Any suggestions???

Did you get a good connection at the harness up front in the passenger side footwell? I mean everything else is plug and play.

So worked on it w my cousin tonight. Very weird. The connection where the wiring harness from the Amp connects to the Sub wasn’t working correctly. If the quick connect was connected properly the sub didn’t work at all. But if we pulled it apart slightly the sub would work. So we cut the quick connects off and hard wired everything. And again the sub didn’t work. So there were 4 wires. 2 white and 2 grey. We disconnected both grey wires leaving just the two white wires connected and the sub works great. No issues. I have a call into kicker to figure out what’s going on. Weird.

I just installed my subwoofer and set all of the switches to the “UP” position. However, I’m noticing that the Amp stays ON after the vehicle is OFF. Just wondering if your amp is doing the same thing? And, is one of the switches maybe a “Auto OFF” signal?

One of the switches is an auto on but that is one that is switched up from the factory. The two switches that are down are gains. Those are the ones that you switch up when using the bass knob. As for the auto on, mine does not turn off right away after I turn off the truck but eventually it turns off. Hope this helps

Do you have the part number for the kit that you used? I know they stopped selling them for awhile - I am wondering if they redesigned the system to eliminate the manual bass controls. How is the sound?

@@bonecrrusherSS I got it from the Dealership, it was the correct part # (I had to verify when I couldn't find the switches/plug) it was correct, I was pissed because I had already pulled the wire from inside center console under the carpet to back seat 🤬. The part number labeling had Feb 23 so it was new stock, I'm assuming it is a change. I think it sounds a lot better, some songs/ music needs tweaking, would have been nice to have the manual control but it's still way better than not having it.

@@jeff-9322 That's crazy they eliminated the manual control. Makes you wonder if people blew up the Kicker subs using the manual control. I have mine turned to about 75% - and should turn it down a bit - as it sounds like I won't be able to replace it.

I just received a new kit, part #19417164 and same thing. There is no 3.5mm jack on the amp for the remote bass control. I believe they redesigned the amp. My amp has a 12" harness coming out of the amp with a white rectangular connector. The amp in bonecrusherSS video had a connector built into the side of the amp.

Just throw a down firing kicker 12” under the rear driver seat and you’ll be much happier

@@bonecrrusherSS I’m sure it works great but for what they charge you can do better. Only ran me $800 to do the kicker 12” and gets way better bass

I can control the bass from the factory EQ settings. I have the bass all the way up… Do I still need the bass controller?

Depends when your amp/sub was made. During Covid - they removed the auxiliary input on the amp. You'd have to see if the plug is on your amp. If it isn't then no manual adjustment for your setup.
