Not surprised that the Bronco won with its much chunkier tires. This just shows us that the tires on a 4x4 mean more than all the power and offroad tech these trucks have.
Exactly I did exactly this with my defender and my cousis's bronco. Mine had the proper offroad tyres and surface was grass. Both had top of the engines and i beat that Bronco easily
On slippery surfaces 99% of this test is based on the tires performance. We arent really seeing anything about vehicle capability here. I love the drag races and car reviews. This stuff is like a tesla gimmick to me though.
@@coolsquad7428 Shouldnt do it at all really it proves absolutely nothing. On pavement you would have to be dumb to let them do this. Its a great way to overheat a transmission or have a torque converter start slipping. Its a childish pissing contest. Just see who can hang the bigger pair of truck nuts off of their towing hitch. That will give just as accurate results.
This is the most inaccurate comparison ever. This not about Ford or Landrover or which has more power or which is a better vehicle - IT'S ABOUT TYRES & GRIP - the guy even says it in the video, then proceeds to bang on about how much better Ford is to Landrover??? How about using the same tyres on both vehicles, oh and is it just me or did everyone else see that the ford gets the snap on every round and starts pulling the Defender backwards before it accelerates??? STOP PUTTING UP INACCRUATE UNFAIR BIASED VIDEOS!!!
It looks like the Defender is having to pull uphill. Flat ground and tires even down to the driver makes a HUGE difference. I don't think this was a fair tug.
A basic Walmart tow strap that size is rated for 8,000 lbs, or 4 tons. By law, most equipment is rated to half of its actual breaking point for safety. For example, a 5 ton jack can actually lift 10 tons before failure. The Defender's dry weight is 5,700lbs, with equipment and a man driving, it is likely around 6,000 lbs in this video. Remember the slippery conditions can hinder the pulling power of a vehicle. All the strap has to do is overcome the weight of the loosing vehicle, which is 6,000lbs. However, considering the strap is not holding up the vehicle and the slippery conditions, it could be pulling just 3,000-4,000 lbs. That is why I said "it is not pulling that much weight" COMPARED to its capabilities. Now, may I ask why you would strap a person to two opposing vehicles when a human has no where the capabilities of a basic Walmart tow strap?
Any chance you could do this again. With similar tyres. Also to make it really fair, put a tow bar on the defender so the rope attaches in the middle so it pulls straight and sideways . And let the defender have a go at the downhill part. Other than that a perfectly fair tug of war.
But you gotta understand that he is comparing vehicles as spec'd by the OEM. If they were to add tires, bar as you mentioned. Them someone one could easily just point at the Serious HP advantage the defender has. Defender 518 to Bronco 315. Where does it stop...? When you literally have 2 identical vehicles (just to make sure 1 doesn't have an unfair advantage).
@@precisionairgunninghunting6265 Plenty of other comparisons between the two. The Bronco beat it multiple times in almost every aspect. Tires and lockers come with the Bronco straight from the factory at a lower cost than the defender.
@@ec3886 but that's besides the point. This was a tug of war where one had a clear advantage. If the spec was reversed then the Defender would have won. Doesn't take rocket science to work that out.
Very dubious test, need to do it again with the same tyres and on flat ground without Defender going uphill. Ps the best 4x4 by far..... is the Defender
Having watched this again and as others have commented, using the rear toe eye on the right slews it clockwise as it pulls because the towing force is all in one corner. Do it properly and fairly next time.
You should have switched positions you are going down hill and hes going up. Yes you have better tires but also the better position hence the result 😠😠😠👀👀👀👀👀
A lot of people I see are moaning about the tyres. That's just the thing. You cant get tyres like the Bronco stock on the Defender. If you give the Landy better tyres then it's not a stock on stock comparison. It is neither the channel's nor Fords fault that Land Rover doesn't offer big tread tyres as standard
@@steakandchips9046 clearly you missed the joke. A set of tires on their own.. No car, engine etc. The irony of you calling someone else a dumbass. Projection much? 😂 Clearly, not only do you not understand humor, you don’t understand how suspension tuning and articulation can affect how the tires contact the ground, weight and balance of the vehicle, etc. Yeah buddy, it’s all tires. Just snap on some BFG MT’s on a Mini then 😂
@@steakandchips9046 not really. I know the independent suspension on a VT Commodore sucks with getting traction to the ground, as the rear tires sit unevenly. Why do I need a particular set of tires to prove that? You’re WRONG again. But your original point was that it’s ONLY the tires that affect any of it, so please stick with that story and don’t try to change it now. 😂
Try the same thing on dry pavement or use equivalent tires. The Defender’s wheels are spinning, which reduces grip. I agree the Defender is a better road car and more luxurious.
Why not just do a tire review? Every response from the OP is "it's fair because those are the tires that came on the car", who cares, you can change tires. Nobody bought a land rover, or bronco, because of the tires and any serious off roader would change the tires to suit the terrain.
I'm no fanboy of the new defender, but if I'm going by manufacturer provided specs, I'd pick the defender 9 times out of 10 over the bronco. The gvwr and towing capacity alone completely outclass the bronco. It's not even close. These 2 vehicles aren't even in the same galaxy as far as I'm concerned. The bronco is better for rock crawling and that's it.
I have the Bad Lands w/Sasquatch package, and I out pulled my brothers Ram TRX with the same 35" tires. The Bronco has an incredible drive train/ power transfer ratio. That was in the dirt, on the road was a different issue. The Bronco gave him a good fight, but the towing capacity of the TRX won in the end.
Good stuff mate. I love how you race review off road , little bit of everything. I know you test what’s given to you but would also agree on tires. None less having front and back lockers makes difference too. And there is also a solid weight advantage here for the Defender and as you know in tug of war helps.
@@SamCarLegion thank you brother! And both just beautiful badass machines. We are very lucky to be living in a great time for cars. Bar keeps getting raised. Cheers and happy new year 🥳🥳
Defender is made for the kardashians lol, bronco is rugged real off roader thats tough while the defender will breakdown at 60k with costly repairs 😅 watch Doug Demuro on how many times his defender broke down and TFL Chanel
I enjoyed it, but, you should have done various competitions, tug a wars, timed mud hill climbing, dry pavement drag race. Actually, I would have preferred an off road, mud hill timed competition the best. Like you said, this just proved who had the best tires.
Fare play....set up for the broco to win there with the traction, much better tyres. Like someone running in massive wellies compared to bare feet ....who's going to win? All about what connects the vehicle to the road so it can transfer the potential properly. That said I hate the new defenders.
First tires, then bronco flat and defender uphill, then position of the rope side vs middle, the driver in defender puts the pedal to the metall, wich is bad for towing/tugging. Put any car im that position and it will winn.
As always Amazing Review, loved how Bronco was able to pull defender. But it had better off road tires than the Defender. Bronco for Every Day. Defender for every day Visit to Dealer Service Center.
If the defender had off road tires it would easily pull the bronco as this shows having a better tire for snow is important and shows what are the difference
300 pounds heavier and better tires not surprising. What is surprising is that the bronco is 300 pounds heavier. Now race them and see how it goes for the Bronco. Also, I don’t think you know what practical means.
This is totally BS Fit the Defender with decent off road tyres, and a tow bar, so that it can pull from the centre rear of the vehicle. The result would then be completely different
🎆🎆🎆Both Cars are great, but one will spend more time on the road, where the other will spend more time at Dealer Service Center. I'll leave the rest for you to decide which one. Let the comments war began.🎆🎆🎆
Defender performed too good with those tyres and also there is a little slope upside against Defender and downside towards Bronco.(this may be camera angle)
It is interesting everyone is complaining about the tires when that is what the cars came with from the factory. They are comparing two stock/ factory cars. Maybe if the Defender is built for the off-road, Land Rover should have issued them with better off-road tires. Just a thought.
They are just butt hurt fanbois, the higher spec'd Land Rover comes with 19+ inch wheels only from factory, noone with half a brain goes offroad with low profile tires.
I’m staggered at how few people understand the concept of conducting a fair test. 1. An even surface for both vehicles. 2. Must have the same tyres. 3 like for like. I’ve seen a previous comparison between a small capacity vehicle versus a large capacity, diesel v petrol. Until that happens these comparisons are of little value to anyone watching.
@@saltyfloridaman7163 Weird, my neighbors Touareg does extremely well in inclement weather even without proper snow tires. I consider the Touareg a beast and truly an underrated off road vehicle. I can’t speak to if it would win or lose but I’m still interested to see how it would do nonetheless.
@@saltyfloridaman7163 Sounds good...Well lets get a Touareg with some proper winter tires and allow both drivers to properly modulate the throttle to see who would win a tug of war battle lol.
Put those on dry ground. And when it comes to offroading the Landrover isn't just for looks it is completely one-hundred-percent technological Offroad vehicle and the Ford is just for trying to release something with a different body that everyone's been waiting for
Bronco by far technologically superior to Defender in terms of off-road capabilities. Ford designed Bronco from scratch to compete with Jeep Wrangler. On contrary Land Rover redesigned legendary 4x4 to fit into soccer moms market segment. Since when dry ground has anything to do with off-road performance? Frankly, at highway speeds Bronco feels by FAR better than Defender.
The Defender just have center locking diff. Which can result in just one wheel is driven on each axle. And 35 inch tires can’t be fitted on the Defender.
It looks like the Defender is on an uphill Incline slightly . Surely you could have done this test on level ground. Even a slight uphill trajectory off the start makes a big difference. Not very professional ! Setup
Several things wrong here really the tyres are not an even match also I dont know why you would put the tow rope on the side of the motor as that will pull the car sideways also the person driving the defender seems rather useless
I'm not surprised to see that the bronco comes with thicker tires. In addition to the driver of the defender just go full throttle without moderating the acceleration. Another problem is that the defense is on the rise and bronco is on the way down, which gives the bronco an advantage there
I am a Land Rover fan but loathe the new Discovery Utility named Defender. However, the Defender was at a disadvantage. Tyres and the fact it was also having to battle up hill and not on the level. P.S. Such a shane the Bronco will never be right hand drive and available here in the UK, I would have the Bronco every day over the new Land Rover.
It would have been nice to see the vehicles switch positions, the Defender was on an incline while the Bronco on more flat surface. I think that could have been the difference!
@@SamCarLegion and you know this for a fact? If you read any of the comments you will see that you just proved nothing it's like you did a tug of war with 2 defenders and one had road tires and other had offroad tires.....the offroad tires will clearly win, if you want to compare these 2 cars however put the same tires on both cars then see the result....also it should be level terrain....the slopes is just another variable that doesn't make sense....
It's a stock on stock comparison not Ford's fault that Ford gives the Bronco fat tyres and a tow hook from stock Edit: Not the channel's fault either it is Landy's fault.
@@vanderz1012 totally agree on your points it's ridiculous. Which beggars the question as to why you need to have the landy pulling up hill with a bellend who just floors it !! Which is what I'm referring to 😉
