I recently got the chance to spend some time with the Honda e Advance and thought you'd like to see the results! Here is my honest review of the Honda-e giving you my genuine honest opinion on this exciting little electric vehicle.
This Honda E delivers a claimed 131-137 miles of range when fully charged and offers a 0-62mph time of 8.3 seconds (although it feels much faster!). Real-world range of the Honda E is more like 100 miles but luckily it can take full benefit of 50kw charging to take it from 10% to 80% in under 45 mins.
This little retro-modern beast also has rear-wheel drive and a very tight turning circle meaning that not only is it super easy to maneuver around town but it's also a lot of fun on those b-roads.
So is the Honda e the best city car EV? forgetting the fact that it's an EV is it just the best city car?
Boot space is disappointing at only 171 litres and it really should have an armrest over the centre console. Whilst I understand that range anxiety will put many off this car, consider your real-world use for a car like this, especially if it's a second car in your household. You can also charge it from a 3 pin plug so is the 100 mile real-world range actually liveable? only you know the answer to that one.
This is a car that delivers smiles, looks from passers-by, and a feeling of being "something special" to drive and experience.
For me, the Honda E makes a compelling case for anyone looking for a funky premium city car.

Great video. I got my Honda E this weekend and it’s truly a fun, comfortable car. I love it. Perfect city car. You’ve nailed the good points of this car. It is now pricey though but I ordered mine before the price hike. Basic model was £26k when it launched 2 years ago and now is £34k.

For me the price is a massive downside but I didn’t go on about it much in the video as price is a very subjective thing. I loved the thing though, just so much fun. Enjoy it!

100% agree with you here Jim. I think the car looks very cool, the interior design is one of the best out there for that kind of car (except for the rear seats...OMG) and if you live in London or any city that matter, you use the car for your commute only, go to the supermarket or McDonald's... 100 miles of range will be more than enough for most people anyway. Never owned a Honda before, but I've heard they are quite reliable as well. Looking forward to seeing your next review :)

Thanks Matteo, Next one will be the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake. I did actually record some footage of my sitting in the back but the sounds was destroyed on it. It's fine for a short journey and would be fine for kids but it's not a place for tall adults!

If you buy the Honda E for what is is - a premium priced city commuter - then it's difficult to see how you may be disappointed. And 100 miles of range for a commuting car isn't an issue at all. The average UK daily commute is 20.8 miles, so you'd just charge it up mid-week. Sure it's pricey, but it will hold onto it's value well enough I'd have thought.

the range isn't a problem is you can charge every night or one close by but if not having to find a charger every couple of days or even going on a short motorway trip in a car costing 34k is a pain its a problem that doesn't need to be. for small cars trying to get as close to 200 miles as possible would make it a lot more viable for most people for the price it is.

A good review again Jim. My reservation, as with all of this type of car, it’s a city runaround for only £36000. £36000. For me (tight wad) a city runaround is under £10000 and closer to 5. I must qualify my comments. They are probably age related.

@DefinitelyNotAGuru
@DefinitelyNotAGuru 2 года назад
Mazda are not lending me cars at the moment, I’d love them to so I could answer your question. On paper the MX30 is cheaper and probably better VFM for most, just might not be looked at as a classic in years to come.

Lovely little thing the Honda E. Agree it would be a great second car. It's pricey though but that said, Honda do things properly and their cars tend to go on and on. I know that through experience...

I live in a terraced house where home charging isn't possible, so ease of use and the operating costs are compromised. Even cars that can rapid charge will take 30 minutes at the 'fuel' station, and I personally don't want to to see the development of massive concrete charging stations just so I can get to a charger and not have to queue. For me, range anxiety isn't the main issue. When you can charge in approximately the time that it would have taken to fill up with petrol or diesel, that's when the practicality becomes viable.
@DefinitelyNotAGuru
@DefinitelyNotAGuru 2 года назад
Ok, I get your point. I don’t have a dog in the fight so have a “to each his own” mentality. Thanks for watching 👍
@Brian-om2hh
@Brian-om2hh 2 года назад
Charging from a terraced house might well be possible if you approached your Local Authority, and suggested they apply for the already available Government funding to install a grid in the pavement outside your door, which would allow a charging cable to pass under the pavement instead of over it. These grids allegedly take around 45 minutes to install. Likewise, the Government funding is also there for Local Councils to install both street light mounted EV chargers, plus the free standing bollard types. The main issue seems to be that many councils don't seem to be aware of it..... And I charge my EV in 12 seconds Noel. Six seconds to plug it in when I go to bed, and a further six seconds to unplug it when I get up in the morning. It doesn't matter about the time in between, because I'm asleep. I don't need my car when I'm asleep..... I generally only use public charging 2 or 3 times a year, usually on the occasional longer trip. Charging at home 95% of the time is the way to go because it's much cheaper. That said, my EV charge rate has now risen by 50% to 7.5p per kwh. I'm getting perilously close to having to fork out 2.5p per mile now.......Still, a 100 mile trip for £3 or less isn't too bad.

Great Review. The electric debate has enough views expressed so will try not to add to them! Currently my and my families life style and work location commitments, while living in rural Herefordshire means Range or Speed of refuel/energise is important. But, living in an Urban area, I can see the appeal of this vehicle and similar EV's. My real concern, on electric (Other than Range/Charge Speed) is we are often a 3 to 4 car family (Wife/Myself, then Son and Daughters cars, so total normally of 3 cars (As I work abroad and come home with multiple different hire cars from Heathrow every 6 weeks through a year - Kids these days are not rushing to leave home !!). So, from my limited electrical knowledge, the amount of electrical chargers fitted to your home electrical grid, can effect charging time of each charger, considerably, unless having ability with a mains fusebox (If having capacity and is safe to do so without considerable financial investment on upgrade) where each charger is run direct from mains entry into the house, out to each charger. Add fast home chargers, you are possibly encountering more problems and all of this can effect appliances inside the home. Add my Motorhome on the drive, that remains plugged-in, i would need a commercial premises level electrical grid, not a simple home electrical grid. But, this is a 1st World problem and many don't even have a drive-way for 1 car, let alone 8, that I'm lucky to have (After getting rid of the front Garden!). I mention this home charging issue, as its one I'm trying to research and assess, as i expect as all of UK, i and family will be forced down the EV purchase route over the next 5 years. All your videos always give me good cause for thought, thank-you
@DefinitelyNotAGuru
@DefinitelyNotAGuru 2 года назад
A typical home charger is a 7kw unit which the vast majority of people can get supplied and fitted for under £1,000. If you wanted a fast charger at home I would assume you would need a 3-phase supply and the unit itself would (again I only assume) cost a great deal. Thanks for watching as always.

And to my 44 year old one. I try to review it as a car first and foremost, people have all kinds of budgets so value for money can be a very different thing for different people. @Brian-om2hh
@Brian-om2hh 2 года назад
You need to put it in perspective. We're basically 10 years into mass market EV's. Look at where we were when personal computers, digital cameras, mobile phones etc first appeared. Purchase costs will decrease as the adoption rate rises. Plus there is always the used EV market. I've seen used EV's for sale at £6k......

@@Brian-om2hh I get your point,but after 10 years of EV's as you say,for Honda to offer 100 odd miles in range for £37k doesn't seem to match the speed of the other electrical equipments development you mention.
@Brian-om2hh
@Brian-om2hh 2 года назад
@@brianiswrong I think you're still missing the point. This particular car is a premium offering in the city car sector. It isn't, and was never intended to be family transport, or a fast lane cruiser. Some people pay £10k for a wristwatch, others will be ok with a £4.99 job. That's the point I'm making.... Those whom like the Honda E will buy it, and those whom don't, won't. Despite your reservations, the car seems to be selling well.
