Dude you seriously need to put that IS500 in manual mode during a race. The computer isn’t going to rev out the way it needs and it’s shifting early. The 2UR is all top end. -GSF owner
IS500 owner here, that went pretty much as expected. Those cars are more similar than many would acknowledge. I've had plenty of Mopars so it was time to go back the Lexus. I do want more sound from the IS500
I really hope you’re kidding right?! Some of the worst driving I’ve seen. These guys clearly are not “car guys”. It’s clear as day they have no clue what to do behind a steering wheel LMAO!!
The Charger has always struggled to put its power down from a dead stop. Even the SRT Hellcat loses to significantly less powerful cars in a one on one race from 0mph. Once the wheels catch though, look out.
Now that I've been in a hellcat and am a year late to this, I completely agree. Once that thing figures itself out it is scary fast. I do own an IS500 and it has nothing on an SRT once it starts pulling. Lexus reliability tho....
@@pyramo3170 since the dodge charger challenger are also ancient they’d have proven to also be reliable over time. And the zf 8 speed it uses has been proven reliable
I've got a IS500 & live in the Motor City (Detroit) & Scat Pack's are literally everywhere. I've raced several Scat Packs from a dig with my IS500. But not with the shitty Potenzas. I swapped them for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s (Summer) Tires. The look on their faces when they lose lol The IS500 is unsuspecting for sure.
Weird because you have your ugly ass car racing zero scats on your channel? Weight advantage your way plus you need a tune just to stay relevant. Not sure why any scat owner wound be surprised of the outcome regardless lol. Stop the cap 🧢
Hey Sam! Awesome vid ! I did get to test drive and review the Charger Scatpack 392, very quick car, I liked it more than I thought I would.. but man that IS500 is quick! Cant wait to get to review and drive one! Hello from sunny Florida!
This was honestly a good ass race. This outcome honestly was what I expected between the two tbh. The transmission in auto definitely is inconsistent in roll races I can 100% confirm that. Sometimes it goes all the way to 7k rpm in sport plus and others it'll short shift at like 4.5k-5k rpm. But damn I still love it though. Can't wait to get a new exhaust on her next summer for sure. -Also a IS 500 owner
The power to weight is similar. In fact, if you factor in both HP and torque figures. You come up with exactly the same ratios for both. The IS just weighs a bit less so it hops off the line better. Lightweight's advantage.
I owned a hellcat for a year, the power was fantastic....but honestly the supercharger was annoying to listen too after about 6 months. It was fun. Maybe I'm just getting old, I'd take the Lexus and listen to that glorious V8, until I wanted to rock out with that superb Mark Levinson sound system 👌
Lol y’all put too much on weight. That big displacement hemi can handle weight. Stop closing on weight. We add weight to SC cars just too hook up and still smoke folks that are less weight
Hey!!! Even race in my opinion. Hope you continue bringing up races of the IS 500! There is none in YT! Also always looking forward for the comments 😂😂😂.
It's entirely acceptable for the Lexus NA V6s to get shredded at stop lights. They have always been more about reliability and luxury, with a relatively strong engine...but they are not fast. The F's and the IS500, that narrative won't fly. These are meant to be performance machines, not just a bit quicker than the Non-F's, like actually competitive performance machines. Thing is, the Fs and Is500 still lag in straight line performance, relatively speaking.
@@layne4376 I had lower expectations given Dodge puts a lot of effort into speed and Lexus is aiming for a more luxury affair. Given my expectations the Lexus impressed me. Hardly controversial unless you are bothered that I’m not praising Dodge for doing exactly what everyone expected.
@@S8ER charger scat pack is big heavy cruiser with some power if anything. I wouldn’t say entirely speed focused if anything the 6.4 that is speed focused would be 1320 challenger.
Great Vid Sam..Should have put both in manual to also see the difference that makes...Im sure you probably opted not to because some owners do not know how to manually shift their cars and can sometimes make for bad content…But either way Love Both Cars..Love the sound of the Scat ofcourse ..wish Lexus would come with a nice sounding exhaust stock..Good Aftermarket exhaust out there for Lexus for better the sound atleast for RCF/GSF
great video as always men really. by the way quick suggestion sam... how bout the jeep 392 vs the bronco raptor 🤔. anyway my money is on the jeep regardless lol
I still have lots of love for the IS500 but I'm admittedly cringing before seeing the results on these drag videos that you release lol. So it's nice to see some wins here and there! 🏆🏁 I'm actually surprised at how well the Lexus puts power down. Is it because of the relatively lower torque (vs other V8s) or the gearing, or is it actually the traction control system?
Pretty much everything you ended wit, I fw GS F tough but always said if Lexus made it wit 40-50 more foot lb of torque it would beat Scats, SS, Stang Gts easily, even tho it does beat scats and stangs
Thanks for sharing Sam this was dead accurate , I had a Infinity tuned Q40 AWD a 2015 I think it was and I raced a IS F 5.0L a couple times and we were dead even all though I’d get him on the launch , that said I ran my q40 against 392s and they were also dead on even on rolls …
As a scat pack owner and a admirer of the IS500 as my possible next purchase, with them being so equal in performance you then have to look at the amenities to decide between these two cars. The Lexus is better quality and reliability with more tech features. The Lexus 5.0 also gets better fuel milage, but that V8 needs some exhaust tone help lol. Both great sedans but leaning towards the Lexus next time around.
It's still some cars on the Market that's naturally aspirated for the V8 powerhouse engine which I love. These two of course the IS500, Dodge Charger 6.4. Then you have the mid-engine Corvette. Lexus LC500, Chevy Camaro LT1, SS, Genesis G90 5.0 I own one of these Beast it's awesome, it's all luxury. The Chrysler 300 with the V8, Lexus RC-F, Dodge Charger R/T. Mustang GT.
I can't believe these are the last natty v8s....I'm goin to go in depression...I've been driving v8s all my life with some exceptions Lexus GS, 300zx, 528i, and daily Altima....all my other cars owned was V8 sedans, corvettes, SUVs.....I'm infatuated with 8 cylinders never drove v10 or 12s
Love both cars, I am impressed to see a lexus keep up with a performance minded sedan. Typically, lexus have always has a quick car but not quite as quick as others. I love my Lexus SC400 and would love to have one of these too.
Its more important for us views to have an accuracy of test as in the gear changes happen at the optimum time to show optimum performance. So manual mode shifting at the exact point would be more important than both in "auto" if auto mode isn't the best performance.
As the owner of a car that does mid 11's stock, I want a LC500 so much !! but its just so slow ! I drove a IS 500 and it was more roomy than I thought it would be, and Im 6'5" tall.... The IS was sliding the back end around constantly - traction was a big issue, but it was only a few degrees over freezing...
Noob question, which one would last longer for long term ownership? I know Lexus has a trademark for reliability but I also heard same thing with the scatpack.
If I had the means, I would proudly own either one of these iconic, soon relic beasts of rubber and asphalt. Or, a wrangler with a 393 even, which has already head out to pasture
Sam! I seen one of these yesterday! Very rare Lexus...nice runs. Like my Acura TL, using paddle shifters in sport mode allows me to redline, so I assume it's probably the same for the Lexus.
The Lexus is impressive being down 1.4l in displacement and down 80 ft lbs of torque compared to the charger. I'd like to see what Lexus could do with a large 6L+ displacement V8.
Lexus screwed up by not making this a full F car. I have driven tons of RC-F/GS-F/LC500's, with the latter having the best exhaust note this side of heaven. The IS500 F Sport designation softens it up a bit, but it is still a very nice car. Go with aftermarket exhaust upgrades to give it a tad more growl. That 392 sounds awesome.
Weight advantage on the IS but big torque advantage usually makes the win... Looks like the IS might catch up if runway was longer. .. Torque make a huge difference
The IS is nice looking car. Dodge needs to find a way to make the charger look better. They haven’t changed it the body style and interior and it’s far overdue.
It's bizarre to think that when they came out with this body style many years ago that they thought it would age gracefully.... When it didn't even start out gracefully 😄. Even though the Challenger is a boat, it's not a bad looking car. The charger has always been awkward and overstyled/goofy and it should never have been named the charger. To put the stickers on and the flashy paint just emphasizes how outdated this car has become. Just an opinion. At least they have the power to move their lardy asses! But it's time to pasture- ize it!
The IS launches good thanks to its lack of torque…. The IS is pulling slightly harder on the top end. That first roll race the Charger driver kinda chested because the stayed behind and accelerated BEFORE the start cones so he was already carrying speed while the IS was just rolling on. The second roll race at a higher speed showed that the cars are very evenly matched, but it looks like the IS was creeping forward still. Overall, awesome cars, awesome race. I could own either of those cars. One tidbit, the IS and RC are much better in manual mode. I’m very very sad to hear that you’re selling the IS500. There’s TONS of potential in that car. Many people with RC’s are able to get 500hp out of the 2UR with very little effort. Sad to see her go Sam.
@@SamCarLegion better how? Because if you talk about being faster, that's not precisely better. You should also have to consider reliability, maintenance costs and depreciation value.
