2023 BMW M3 Competition vs Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio vs Chevy Camaro ZL. Drag and Roll Race Join this channel to get access to perks: / @samcarlegion
Yup. I definitely know in 10-speed cars the car upshifts faster than a PDK when in automatic mode and in the sportiest setting. Doing it manually is 100% slower even if you have perfectly timed shifts.
Are you implying the Camaro especially a ZL1 can’t handle? I think you should check lap times for both, even just the SS puts down great numbers. Don’t get me wrong, I like the Alfa and loved it when it originally came out but it’s been to damn long and barely anything changed. Forget a refresh or horsepower bump, needs a whole new refresh.
It's frustrating to see people not know how to race automatics in roll racing. You start in manual mode to hold desired gear. Once race is on, you switch to automatic so the car shifts the quickest and at optimal RPM.
@@lauzagna Yep, but u have to be in that mode before the pull reduce the delay. Also, he didn't even know about the actual Performance Mode.. double tap on the traction button to enter whole in Sport or Track. Sigh...
@matzepizzaheld8541 BMW USA claimed that the M3 Xdrive will do 0-60 MPH in 3.4 seconds, and the quarter mile in 11.9 seconds. They are absolutely underratting their car performance by a big margin.
The videos themselves are wack now too lol. This channel is falling off….weird matchups, shitty drivers, shitty camera angles. Thank god CarWow and Auto Glory exist 🤣.
I have a G82 M4C and when you put it into rear wheel drive mode I swear it feels like the car has less power. I don't know if this is a psychological trick on my butt speedodometer or BWM retards the power a bit. You do have to have stability control off for 2 wheel drive. Anyway, yes you're right, xdrive makes an enormous difference from a dig.
Yep, buy the worst quality and worst preforming car of the bunch simply because it’s rare. You do know why it’s rare right? Because mostly clowns looking for attention or to be different buy them. 😂 I love the Alfa dont get me wrong, but buying it because it’s rare is such an illogical thing to do. And the reason it stands out is because most people hate it’s Dorito nose. Even though I quite like it.
@Sikeslikescars woah, it's not bad quality by any means, I mean compared to the camaro it is similar in quality I would say, pepole say oh handling is great but quality is totally dogshit, I don't agree with that.
The Zl1 1LE isn't a great comparison because it's the track version which has tons of extra downforce and is not tuned for straight line speed, the normal ZL1 is a little bit quicker in drag races and cheaper too.
A rear wheel drive M3 would be lighter and better in a roll race. So the BMW has to be appreciated on how it slaughters in the AWD mode and still does decent in the roll races.
I've had both the ZL1 and the QV. The ZL1 always felt like it was on a different level due to the supercharged V8. It was a lot more fun around town due to that instant low torque. So you could play around at part throttle without being crazy. The Alfa needed to stretch it's legs. So to have fun, you really had to be going a lot harder. It was SUCH a gorgeous car though. They're a pain to mod and the electronics can be a little finicky. I've been on the fence about getting a new M3 Comp Xdrive though. Simple stage 2 mods put these things in the 9's which is insane. Room for the family and the interior feels the part for the price.
In England for 12000$ you can up to 750hp without any problems on engine or gearbox. You can find video of this M3 in carwow chanel . Its insane , make 10.2 in 1/4.
@@allan2466 Absolutely! Especially with the current used market on them. The stereo is mediocre as well as the infotainment but as far as a fun daily driver, it's hard to beat. The JB4 tuner really woke it up.
Actually the 10-speed upshifts faster than Porsches PDK when first revealed. 10-speed is probably the fasting shifting automatic trans with real gears. Almost feels like a CVT at times with how fast it shifts and how close the gears are.
You guys always do roll races so annoyingly (no offense, I do love the content!). You either do full "manual" mode on cars that are best left to automatic shifting, OR you do automatic mode, but including the kick down. Now, don't get me wrong, both of those are important to test! But, please please PLEASE do the best version of the roll race: Use manual mode to select starting gear Floor it Put transmission back into automatic shifting mode This way gives you the best/most-optimal start as well as the best/most-optimal shift timing (never short shifting nor banging off of the rev limiter). PLEASE.
That is fake numbers or a mistake , BMW itself claimed it is 3.4 with X-drivers , the Camaro is 4s not 3.2 s too , both drivers launched pretty slow , POV : they can’t launch their cars
Moral of the drag race video...fire the other driver....he's not able to figure out when to accelerate. When you (sam) drove ...in most cases you won the races. Just make it fair for each manufacturer....and if you have 3 cars ...race all against each other .. it's okay..you can copy Carwow a little bit. Keep up the good work!
For the love of God please take that necklace off of the rearview mirror in the Camaro it keeps swinging around and it's very irritating to watch lol.... and why are the cars so much quieter in Europe than they are here in the USA? it seems like you guys have the exhaust systems which are completely choking the car's performance potential, and it doesn't let the cars sound very nice compared to here in the USA.. also seems like the cars are testing slower acceleration times in Europe than they do here in the USA for almost all performance cars it's really weird..
@@dnegel9546They didn't. The ZL1 was in manual mode for the 1st and 2nd roll races as you can see him manually shifting. From that point on, all the other races were in auto. Never did they put it in manual then put it back into D after flooring it. I've never understood that concept of manually shifting an automatic car for a straight line race. A human cannot out shift an automatic transmission.
M3 wasn't beaten by the Camaro even in RWD mode (1st dig race)! It could also keep up with Camaro in 70 km/h Rolling run!!! 3.0L vs 6.2L !!! That's insane!!!
And the M3’s engine is a mere flash tune away from 800 hp dyno verified. They’re running sub 9.5 now on stock engines, stock turbos, full weight and stock pirelli summer tires. Only mods to get yours there; flash tune, downpipes, and e85.
Is this the first ZL1 on the channel? Loved your reaction @samcarlegion I have the same reaction every time I'm tapping into the SC whine. One note, the 1LE will trap a bit slower because of the extra aero that makes for a great track car, as long as the track isn't a drag strip.
Very interesting video Sam! Well done. Still would like to find a way to have fair rolling races. Always people jumping before the cones or not at the same speed when startingthe rolling races. 11.0 for the M3 is very good!
@RaceDawg Most of the time, on CW, the cars are driven by Matt, Yanni, etc. (people from the channel). Sam let the car owners drive their own car. So, it no longer is objective. But, the other hand, there are no excuses of poor driving, since the owner is supposed to know how to drive his car optimally. Also, CW has 20x more views/budget. When Sam invites people to race and shoot videos, he intends to make 4 different videos in one day. So, if people don't listen to the instructions, it affects the quality of the races. The way I see it is that in the real world, you will always have someone jumping and it's fun to see how the other car can catch up. Nothing is perfect and I love Sam's content even though it is not perfectly setup.
We barely get people’s cars in Canada - let alone press cars. Carwow is allowed to race cars owned by manufacturers. We aren’t even allowed to film at the track let alone racing them 😂. Especially Stellantis the company that makes drag racing cars. We film the races multiple times so people don’t make any mistakes. Hence why I stopped doing three way races, less mistakes.
@@5.0nito it is faster, he was redlining it like 5 time, you start in manual then as you get going pop it into auto and let the computer shift, you cannot out perform the computer in an automatic car
As long as the road is straight then M5, as soon as you throw in the curves the ZL1 leaves it. Chevy doesn’t have as much of an aggressive launch control either. The BMWs hit hard off the jump.
@@WindyCity1992 that’s not being factual at all if anything it further validates what I’m talking about and further adds superiority to the m3. The ZL1 has 147 horsepower on it and in a condition where the m3 turns off it’s all wheel drive, having less power and weighing more makes the Chevy look even worse.
It’s still a twin turbo v8 vs a supercharger pls stop the comparisons two different types of forced inductions and bmw needs two at that so please stop
@@damianparris2811 tell that to the author of the video that literally made a video comparing them. What type of induction a vehicle has DOES NOT matter. The m3 with 150 horsepower less and more weight beat the camaro on real wheel drive setting. Use your brain. I know theyre making school easier to complete but god damn.
@michaelschwab9563 Those drag tires definitely make a huge difference, but the average driver will always launch better with awd. It takes some real talent to launch a car like a Shelby GT500 or any variation of Charger/Challenger Hellcat. I have nothing but respect for the one's that can.
Bmw giving the best of the last generation of ICE in all models..all drag races from diffrent channels if they feature an Mcar it will win all drag and roll..s58 is a masterpeace of engineering at the Best..can beat engines twice its size..Well done M Division
@@Mike-lt6sjThe future is EV,these are last roll out of oil burners..next M cars are hybrid and EV, Merc has dumped the glorious V8 engine on it's C63s , next M5 is hybrid and EV.. better get used to
Excellent video testing! BMW 0-60 mph times awesome and predictable. However, what I would love to see in testing is how these cars perform real world. For example, flat footing it away from the stop light. No one uses launch control in this scenario, which is a band aid, compensating for turbo lag, imho. That is what I don't get from this testing. Sam, any chance you could include 5mph to 60 mph tests?. Or just flat footing it from a dig, no launch control. I think that this sorts the s/c from the turbos. I am on the fence. Love my Jaguar F type V8s, but lusting after getting a M3C x drive. However, I am really concerned about off idle turbo lag, which would be really disappointing.. Can I give up F type instant power, beast mode? And of course the BMW puny shop vac engine sounds, there's that too. decisions, decisions.
Oddly enough it just doesn't work that way in the street racing world. Everyone where I live in FL is on a Drag radial setup and hooks like glue on the streets. Why don't the AWD guys want to play anymore when they see that? Odd right?
Why doesn't anyone ever come to these races with a properly setup Rear wheel drive car on DR's so it can hook on the Launch? Ya know and Actual street setup 👀
Of course, the ZL1 kills both these cars on the track, including the Nurburgring. To be fair though, the ZL1 is a true sports car, the other two are amazing sports sedans.
I was in the market for a Quadrofoglio. I ended up buying a ZL1. The Alfa Romeo sales guy gave me so much BS that the Quad was very competitive and close to the ZL1 in every aspect. 😂. I knew better. That's a 150 hp diff which is a lot. Plus, can't beat that V8 sound
All three cars are awesome but that zl1 is just sinister. I love that car in a manual. Also the instant torque from the pushrod engine makes it fun for just around town as well
Awesome day Sam, the m3 didn't seem like it was in auto for the rolls though, love the zl1, love the alfa athough seems to maybe have more issues, m3 xdrive is very hard to beat from a dig
Love everything about the new M3/4 except for the long rectangular dashboard screen. They should have kept it split. Currently own a 2023 X3M40i which is also a beast to drive...for an SUV/SAV....0-60MPH in 4.1secs stock. Hoping to get in tuned and get it into the 3's and 11's
No replacement for displacement... Except when talking GT-Rs in Airstrip Attack competitions 😜 I've owned both, the M4xDComp & GT-R. Never in my life would think of owning a 2wd muscle car.
The Chevy Camaro ZL1 is actually really bad. It has over 100hp more than the other cars and barely wins. The BMW M3 on the other hand is insanely quick and puts the power down onto the road so well.
