As far as I can tell they are in a relatively unique market - an electric high end luxury saloon. I would argue that the Tesla Model S is not in that space. The only thing in that space is the Mercedes EQS. BMW don’t seem interested in that space yet. When Rolls Royce/Bentley eventually come into that market they would probably be priced much higher. I’m guessing that for the near future Lucid will be able to sell each car they manage to produce. In the mid 80's I remember reading a letter in a magazine replying to an article on electric power, in kit car magazine of all places, written by an engineer who gave his thoughts on the viability of electric vehicles , the superior torque, how he predicts that hybrids would catch on first rather than waiting for battery technology to improve first.....this always sticks with me, how he nailed it 10 - 15 years ahead of that actually happening. This car tells of devotion. Its maker wanted to make his best contribution to a great story and add a new, special chapter to it. It feels like a hug and a bowing homage to automotive history and future at the same time. The best-known competitor's product looks like a pair of maliciously folded arms in comparison. It's an "I told you so!" instead of the curiously proud "What do you think?" of the Lucid. And that makes all the difference in the world.

Great to hear the enthusiasm of the designer and chief engineer. That Lotus goodness has a habit of turning up in surprising places!

If Mid-Century Modern Design had a Vehicle to represent it, this would be it. It is so well thought-out and will prove to be timeless with uncomplicated details that add visual length and width to emphasize it's stance. It manages to remain aerodynamically efficient by using some clever tricks that do not compromise the form and proportions like the EQS which needs to use graphic elements to hide the odd shape of the vehicle necessary in achieving it's CD. They have the right blend of touch and tactile controls and still remain future-forward in aesthetics without looking gimmicky. Well deserved recognition and I am curious about Gravity and future smaller segment crossover and sedan models.

So exciting to see how the world is changing. I remember Jay talking about electric cars 15 years ago and he made fun of the fact that you charge a battery and a week later the electricity goes away, but if you put gas in a tank it'll sit there until you burn through it. Times have certainly changes

@@markplott4820 annnnnnd what's your point, other than attempting to troll me? How many people know about those cars you mentioned? How many of those changed the world? There were lots of smart phones before the iPhone. There were lots of tablets before the iPad. None of them changed the world. None of them were a seismic shift in the landscape, until Apple released their product. This isn't a new concept. Stop trying to troll people.

I had the awesome opportunity to check out a prototype of this car 5 years back at the San Clemente Cars & Coffee. Derek Jenkins is a friend of a friend and gave us a personal walk through. It looked great 5 years ago as a prototype and it looks great now. Really beautiful design.

Lucid designs are almost always astounding. If they do release them, I wish them great success. To tickle Tesla and make them even better, we need additional high-performance players like Lucid. Peter and co. did a great job on this one.

Ya know what I think is really cool? The side profile of some of the best looking cars has this really similar “design thing”. What comes to mind with this common profile appearance is in the Bentley sedans, the Chrysler 300, and now I’m seeing it here with this Lucid Air right after catching my initial side view and really liking it. They all have this slight pitch front and rear with a stubby but stout looking rear and equally stout and commanding front. I’m sure some folks might think I’m nuts, but I am just as sure that others will know exactly what I’m talking about. Very cool looking car!! 👍🏻😎👍🏻
