Mustang is just a better built car. It takes a 6.2 to run with the 5.0. It is so sad that GM is going to stop making the Camaro. I love the American muscle cars. I hope they do not bring it back as a EV. The Mustang EV is a joke. Just my opinion.
@@Steve-yr5vi You see so few because GM wouldn't build enough cars. I've had an order in for an SS 1LE for 2 years at 2 different dealerships and neither could get an allocation. GM stiffing the public for SOLD and ORDERED cars. Just like what happened to Sam for his CT5-V BW.
The stock MT82 have ALWAYS been absolute garbage never understood why Ford kept them in production after so many people complained about them in 2011-2014
The Getrag MT82 D4 is the revised version of the MT82 that was in the 2011-2017 stangs. It has much longer gears and has worse acceleration than the original MT82.
@@DaSliceAndDice I'm a Mustang guy all the way but one thing I'll admit I'd that Chevy/GM did good by putting a decent manual in their Camaro/Corvette lineups. I've driven a 2016 Manual 2SS and loved the transmission.
@@Sneaky5.sl0w. Yeah man I agree they definitely have the better manual tranny. I have a 2018 GT manual myself and I’m considering either swapping the tranny for a Tremec or putting 4.09 gears in. The gears will be a lot cheaper I’ll probably go that route.
I own a 2021 Camaro SS 1LE 6 speed. It is by far the best car for the money. It can run with any car for the most part on a track, and still run light to light with the new cars. This was a fun video to watch as a Camaro owner. Thanks...
I have had 3 camaros in my life. 13 2SS, 16 2SS, 21 1SS 1LE and i gotta say... 1LE is THE BEST bang for your buck car. The corner capability in itself is worth every penny and more.

As a car enthusiast, automotive worker, and 10 year drag racing veteran, this is my take. The first roll race the revs were too low for the stang, the Big Chevy V8 on the other hand was right in the torque sweet spot and pulled way. The 2nd roll race put the mustang in its sweet spot, smaller, multi valve V8 loves to rev, and it pulled away. 1st drag race the Camaro went up in smoke... which happens. (Even with drag radials on a prepped track I've done it more than once). But, the 2nd drag race, it sounds to me that he may have bogged the Mustang.... which once that is done in such closely matched cars... game over. I have heard many complain about the stock GT manual, and could see him not shifting it aggresively because of it. EIther way, nice to see both cars run through their paces.
Camaro will take the Mustang off the line EVERY TIME with more torque. That is facts. Mustang cannot outrun the Camaro in any scenario although it's close in the 1/4 mile. Both are nice cars for the money. Who cares cause it's splitting hairs. No hate on the Mustang here, I would buy one if it was the right car.
The classic rivalry Camaro vs. Mustang. For me, the Camaro is the more aggressive looking & more track focussed car. When I decided 4 years ago between either Mustang (GT 350 cause the GT500 was not yet available in Germany) or Camaro (ZL1) I decided for the ZL1 as a 6-speed and did not regret it until today! With a few slight mods only it performs solid almost 700hp/900 NM and the car feels great and looks adorable!
I agree. The only thing I’d take over the Camaro is the sound the coyote v8s make. The Camaros suspension, handling, power, is all amazing and surpasses the mustang in many cases.
Mustang vs. Camaro is always fun to watch. Of course automatics are going to be quicker and we need to know the gear ratio in the respective differentials, but fun to watch nevertheless.
Automatics aren't always quicker. I was able to hit 11.8 in my stock 23 camaro LT1 manual with just radials. Fastest stock automatic camaro I've seen at the track was 12.0
@@johnnyringo35- The automatics are so much quicker on a road course since it is shifting numerous times in a given race. A manual trans just can't keep up with it!
Same as their trucks right? That’s what you call tried and *true.* When you do things correctly the _first_ time there’s less corrections and modifications that take place later on to improve.
If somehow GM added the lt2 intake manifold to these camaros and match the c8 corvette power torque numbers, it would have been awesome. They just killed it instead.
@@Pia-ho9dm, I agree. Mainly because Dodge never changed the platform. In a way, they stuck to their roots...heavy cars with Big Engine with lots of HP on skinny tires..for the most part.
@msterr And dodge never keeps its word or is accurate. Demon, demon 170, and hellcat numbers are never accurate. They also hate rolling drags when they used rolling drags for the demon 170. Also, they claimed it was the most powerful V8 at the time (2018) when Koeninsegg had the regera. Also, the quarter mile time was beated by another hypercar. And they also promised to make the Dodge muscle cars chassis lighter and to overall make their body lighter but they never did.
Wow, this was an incredibly good battle! Both are awesome cars but on that last race the Camaro really hooked up! Thanks for providing good information on the cars and leaving it up on the screen for a while. It wouldn't hurt to list MSRP based on options, etc.
The only problem with that is some people are much more talented at driving a manual transmission than others. Ideally they should also switch cars and repeat and see if the results are the same.
@@thetacticalape8852 Sam knows how to bang shift! Go watch the Cadillac CTS V vs Challinger Hellcat video. He just wasnt doing it in someone elses car or, he hasnt had much seat time in it?
Yup! ZL1 with the LT5 making 755hp and 715 lb/ft Torque would destroy the gt500 and hellcats Even a z28 with the LT6 engine would have been a game changer. Could’ve toned it down too. 570hp and 500ft/lb torque as an NA 5.5 v8 engine would rival the gt350 and probably be better. Chevy just kept the Camaro from its potential for the sake of the vette and its sad
Appreciate the video. Not apple to apples though breh. GT PP would be the minimum for that to be a fare race. You need to bring the performance pack to that fight when you can find an S650. You were handicapped with allseason tires, not the Summer tires on the PP, lower gear ratio which was really the problem with the transmission which is like 3.55 not 3.73 like the PP MT82 could still compete with GT PP Dif and ratio, The suspension was also the stock trash springs and shocks that buck like mustang literally on a manual, Not sure but I know the 1LE suspension is way stiffer and likely has Magnetic Controls shocks as well. Again grateful for the content, but please run it back when you can get a GT PPS550 , Mach 1 or PP S650 next time you race the 1le.
I agree totally. Suspension setup, tires and airflow mgmt are very important. Just because Ford prices are unrealistic doesn't mean their cars compete in the same price/performance categories.
@@Youcantchangemyname a 5.0 that’s gotten two revisions since that gen Camaro came out, while on an already extremely old platform… that makes less power… Don’t be a window licker.
Awesome. I was wondering if you could ever do some older cars as well Like 2003 s600 twin turbo vs 2003 e55 AMG? Or a terminator cobra 2003-2004 vs a new GT dark horse or any GT. 996tt vs Toyota supra mk4. Just throwing some ideas that I would like to see. I know I ain't shit just was wondering if those kind of drag races interests you for your channel and your fans. Great video. 😊
Why is it that no one factors in the rear gear ratio? There’s only one offered in the Camaro where in the Mustang there’s 3. Did this one come optioned with the 3.73? That would make a huge difference in a drag race and acceleration in a roll until a certain speed in the 100+
My 2016 Focus ST has it, but I dont use it. Im pretty quick at shifting as it is, but NLS is abusive to the clutch. Cool feature for a rare drag race or something, but not a worthy feature if you regularly run your car as it'll quickly wear down the synchros/plate.
Fast 2-3 up shifts aren’t a thing for average drivers. In the 2nd run, the shift was much quicker though. Driver is king when it comes to MT cars. Just comparing the first two runs at that shift point shows you there 1-2 car length to lose or gain depending on how good of a shifter you are, and how much seat time you have in a car. It must be hard trying to speed shift any car if you’re only just driven it.
It seemed from the end that the camaro driver owns the car. So he's likely very familiar with it. But that's why real men race manual. Just that much more skill required... although launch control and no lift shift do hel0, haha.
The Getrag was changed from the one used in the previous S550. IMO, It would have been a better test if both cars used an automatics trans. My other question the gear ratio for both cars. Most base manual Mustang GTs come with gas saving 3.15 gears. Not the best performance ratio for an engine that produces power up to 7500 RPMs.
Great video Sam. I have a SS Camaro and a S550 Mustang Gt. They are both great cars, very similar with some differences. Ford has been manipulating horsepower and torque numbers since 2022, The Camaro has been 455 and 455 from 2016 til now. The torque does make a big difference, so does gear ratios, tires and clutches. Ford offers standard 3.55 gears and 3.73 gears which also is a factor. The Camaro running a 4 second 0 to 60 with a manual is rare, 4.2 is normal and 4.3 for the manual mustangs from 2015 to 2023, invariably. Camaros usually shift well invariably, the Mustangs are inconsistent. Some shift great and others terrible, there are several versions of the MT82s that also factor in.
Both cars are amazing but I after watching some of these shows with guys comparing two brands I feel they should use the car to its potential, if the mustang has sport, drag, and track mode and the Camaro just have sport, sport plus then show us what they do in the different modes! And compare it to one another. Especially when your drag racing the cars, now on the road race side the gearing would obviously different in certain packages. If it has a drag option on the mustang then 9/10 it has a 3:73 gear which completely changes that car performance. But I guess it’s what you can get your hands on to compare them with either way love the show.
Does the mistang prevent you from no lift shifting, use to no lift shift my Conquest, and my v8s10. Not sure why you wouldnt be able to do the same in a new and im sure much better shifting vehicle
@shannonandsheila1403 you also gotta factor in the weight of the 1LE package. All those parts that make it go around a track very easy weigh more vs the lighter GT without a track pack. If you throw in a GT Dark horse with the track pack it would be at least 100 lbs heavier. In the quarter mile a 100lbs can easily translate to a 10th of a second and even more in a race going around in laps. I'm a Camaro AND Mustang lover but had they thrown the lighter SS or the heavier Dark horse the results could have been even worse for the Mustang.
@MiguelRodriguez-jf3hb I have the base model 24 GT, but i have had trans ams buicks, even a bunch of dodges, but even more fords my problem is I like anything with a engine the faster the better though lol.
Love the evenly matched Cars slotted with manuals. Low mph rolls, the camaro shine. higher mph rolls mustangs top end starts to bully. Digs are a coin toss. Love to see it
6500 RPM shift point for the panther and 7500 for the s650.. seems like you are short shifting, you're shifts are almost the same time as the panther.. 🤦🏽♂️
Man I’m still not a fan of this new body style. It’s like it’s not finished or something. I’ve seen a few here around town and they still haven’t grown on me like s550 did when it came out. Even the base dark horse didn’t look like I thought it would in person. Only seen one handling pack in person and it’s a stunner for sure but the price is just crazy. In conclusion to my essay… I’d take a 6th gen SS 1LE over any s650 not named the dark horse with handling package.
That’s because the s550 is vastly different from the s197 (previous before s550). Whereas the s650 although it’s a new generation, it’s basically just a s550 refreshed.
Totally agree. As a long time “Ford Guy” I’m just not liking it. Everything about the “new” mustang looks Half-assed. Don’t get me started on those stupid assed black strips under the head lights on the DH. The very definition of tacky. Like the cheap slap-on baubles one gets from pep boys to make a Tercel look sporty. Gawd damnit ford get your shit together. Oh, and another thing. Stop selling mustangs with crap trannys and numb steering. The 70’s are calling and they want their crappy parts back!
I agree the Camaro for racing is great handling car, and another channel confirms though they confirmed the Dark Horse is the only way to go on the S650...otherwise stay with the Mach1 Handling Pack. Because it's better than ALL and you can Super Charge it and it's better than the Ford GT500 and way better than the Shelby Super Snake 🏎🏎🏁🏁🚩🚩👨🏻👍🏻
Should have switched drivers and see if results were same or if one driver was better that way u could see which car is actually faster not who drives better
Really? You think the other guy would be able to shift the crappy transmission in the Mustang better than the first guy did? Lol! Once the cars were hooked up, the Camaro was clearly pulling away. That had nothing to do with shifting...
Low 12’s is pretty quick… my 87 LX 5.0 stick I bought new was a 14.7 car out of the box with 2.73 gears… installed 3.55’s and couldn’t hook up ever at the strip 14.5 was best… threw some slicks on and the car went 13.9… added off road exhaust homemade cai and equal length headers went 13.5 on slicks… finally replace w/aluminum heads and went 67mm throttle body and mass air conversion..rams 12.9’s w slicks…. Then my buddy totaled it :( miss that car!!!!!!
Buddy I grew up with purchased an 88 notchback with 180k miles. It went a 9.38 in the 1/8th w/auto and bone stock. He dropped a C4 w/reverse valve body and 4:10’s in went 8.34. Some twisted wedge heads, intake and a 17 lbs vortech later it went 6.80’s when she popped.

Take away the manuals for both and put in the 10r80 for the stang, and I bet the stang walks the Camaro every time. Or swap out the MT82 for the t56, or the TR3160, and I bet things would go a lot smoother for the stang. I’m not disputing it lost, I’m just disputing that it wasn’t given the proper equipment for the job
I’d say they both have their pros and cons. Camaro is a better track car, especially with a manual. But once you get the 10 speed autos in the picture the Mustang takes it all day and it’s more practical imo for daily driving.
Kuddos to Chevy for making a product that can keep up with or exceed Ford's newest generation. Of course, this doesn't include the Dark Horse, which would have been a different race -- but then again, the Dark Horse is supposed to be a slight level above the typical Mustang GT/Camaro SS category. Now, on the track, I'd say the SS 1LE will give the Dark Horse a run for its money.
A stock SS or lt1 is faster because it is lighter than the 1le due to the suspension package and wheels and tires. Their are guys getting high 11's with lt1's with good sticky tires.
I recently pulled up on, and then blew the doors off of a Camaro SS in a roll race, from about 60 mph, in my Dark Horse. My car has legs, she knows how to use them. 😅
I’ve had multiple iterations of both cars. The Camaro is just better. More torque, better shifter, way better platform, handles way better. Until you get into the Shelby realm, the Mustang just can’t keep up with the Camaro handling, even in non 1LE form. I do like the looks of the Mustang a little better tho, not including the new S650. It’s weird.
lol better platform ur living in a fairytale the best coyote is king daddy over any ls how many time does this have to be proven to u delusional junkyard boys have fun building your bottom end to come near a coyote with boost an fuel an fords 6r80 eats any trans chevy made get educated
The Camaro is easily the best looking car by anything the big 3 produces (and that includes the C8). Starting in 2015, the looks of the Mustang were ruined...the '14 and earlier models were much better looking IMO...
Its the handling on street and track where you understand the Alpha chassis from GM is superior to Fords. That is the problem with Ford vs Camaro because the 6th generation Camaro actually rides on a well thought out neutral chassis that makes it a true sports car. The Mustang is far from sports car status in the modern era. 2024 Mustangs ride on the same chassis and that is a shame.
IMO what killed the Camaro is the antiquated OHV motor. The entire world, including Chevy except in their V8 line (not including the Z06,) moved to OHC decades ago.
@@inyoface1641Look at the recorded times at various tracks....shorter tracks with turns the Camaro wins, longer tracks, Mustang 350r due to having more horsepower...if the horsepower was equal the Camaro 1LE would dominate.
@@inyoface1641 Those cars are tuned to do so but the Alpha chassis is superior to anything from Fords Mustang lineup. A simple set of springs on the Camaro puts all variants in a different class in regards to handling because of the chassis.
DO NOT BUY A MUSTANG TO RACE IF IT IS NOT A 10 SPEED! 😂 THIS HAS BEEN KNOWN FOR YEARS THE 5.0 IS A SMALL MOTOR. ITS POWER IS UP HIGH AND IT ONLY WORKS WITH THE 10R80 OTHERWISE YOU ARE OUT OF THE POWERBAND.
True but apparently the paddle shifting on mustang automatic is not fast responsive or fun apparently compared to having manual mustang or other cars with DCT. Even bmw automatics are more fun to shift.

As a person with a 6 speed manual S650 you are wrong💀 yes, 10 speeds are a little quicker but the 6 speeds not horrifically slower, they still win races, and are still more fun to drive. Sam just can’t drive manual that’s all.
@@tcurtez wrong. the mustang automatics are known for having problems paddle upshifting sometimes and lagging behind. The Camaro is a great car, always has been and the power plant has been untouched. I’ve owned two and never lost to a coyote although I will say coyotes are incredible with boost!
Ford really didn’t think that Mustang interior out. It’s looks like they outsourced the instrument cluster to Mercedes Benz. I was not a fan of the Camaro but it definitely has the better interior.
Yeah the Getrag is not the best, but I think the combination of the new longer gearing and the wider rear axle kill the high rev nature of the coyote. I think if you would have the PP with 3.73 it would have been closer. Not to take anything away from the Camaro, it’s an excellent car.
