I own a Supra, loved seeing this race. The Golf R and Stinger GT are very impressive cars, crazy to see what those vehicles can do. Great content as always!
Unlike with VW's who need a ricer tune to keep up, I tried to roll race a Supra and that BMW is no joke! As much as we love to hate the Supra being a BMW, it really hauls ass!
@@cubanrafy your Korean car will need much more of a Ricer tune to keep up with any car than any VW. Stop hating on VW every chance you get because it’s the better brand than yours
@@glistud8178Yes, VW is much better at selling higher priced GTI's that cannot compete in performance, infotainment, free maintenance, or warranty to Hyundai, you win!
@@chancemcclendon3906 BMW is known for reporting WHP figures as BHP but regardless the Supra is 700lbs lighter than the Stinger, in terms of speed that’s about 1/10sec per 100lbs and 10hp, the Supra has 20hp more and 700lbs less so it should theoretically be 9/10sec (0.9) faster, each tenth equates to 1 car lengths and by the looks of it… the Supra accurately put buses on the Stinger given the math
Add one or two aftermarket upgrades to the stinger it's over trust me. It's underpowered because of the warranty it offers it can be modified for true speed.
@@jameelparrish741 I think you shouldn't underestimate the gains the B58 gets in the Supra, it keeps it together at close to 700WHP with stock internals.
VW could have gone with a six but that would have made it even more expensive, and buyers are already complaining about the price. In order to get the higher Hp 5 cylinder, you need to move up to the Audi RS-3 for 400/500 hp/torque.
3 unexpected participants, what a cool set of races. Love the 3x drags and rolls Sam; the results are epic. I may have fallen in love with a Supra that day. Shout out to our mans from Maryland for comin up with a car we cant get in Canada yet (so far) and an even bigger shout out to the Stinger, which, continues to impress.

@@cubanrafy The ironic part is that we hate on a Toyota for having the inline heart of a BMW. It is not like we have a 7 series with an old Corolla's 1.8 liter. I always remind myself that without the BMW heart, there would be no Supra, rare as they might be.
I own a 2020 Stinger GT, and honestly expected it to get blown out by both cars. The stinger is quick no doubt, but she's a boat lol. Nice to see it can hang with the lightweight quick bois, but no surprise the Supra was so much faster than both. Three amazing cars here!
And Kia makes no bones about the fact that the Stinger is, in fact, a GT car. It's not a sports car. But you get great performance along with a beautiful, comfortable interior and a lot of practical space.
Very true. I'm looking at a new Supra, but it will be a second weekend/summer car only (Daily driver is a 2013 Tacoma TRD) I don't think the Supra is a daily driver. Where the Stinger is plenty fast, can carry four people comfortably, and looks cool.
The Golf R can also use that power on twisty roads as well. It's a very impressive car but it's now getting a bit high in price. I remember when the Mk6 was around $34k and now the Mk8 is $45k.
Twisty roads? Hmm, it has a bunch of electronic nannies that will cut power like crazy when there’s a sliver of possible slippage, and they can’t be turned off completely.
Oooooh Golf R, not gold fart. Great video Sam. Thank you for coming up with these for us curious folks that are on a budget and can’t afford all 3 cars.
Until you remember its a Kia and they break every second not to mention fixing them yourself is a headache and going to a dealership is a pocket ache. Each to their own though
@@TheRayjay62 then you remember they come with a 10 year warranty plan and they actually don't break down like people say and they are almost as reliable as hondas💀
This was a good race. I like all three of the cars. I was rooting for the Golf R, though. For it to have the least amount of horsepower, it really held its own. I'm looking at purchasing one soon.
For a practical awd hatch it's pretty unmatched. No surprises that it gets beaten by the supra though, considering that's an impractical purpose built sports car
stage 1 on the R from Unitronic which is typically a conservative tune, makes an extra 130hp at the crank w/ just the software with no added parts. Crazy what a tune gives you.
Great race! I own a 2018 kia stinger Rwd and I always wondered how it would perform against a 2022 stinger awd. According to google, my car weights 3,829 lbs and the one in this video weights almost 4,200 lbs .
If that awd one really weighs that much more then yours then your rwd would probably be faster on dig and roll as long as your traction is good and doesn't slip. It would be interesting to see those results though.
@@jakeatkinson901 pretty sure in all testings done the AWD has the better 0-60, it may perform slightly worse longer distance when the same HP with more weight matters more but the additional traction makes it better 0-60
I would have loved to know the gear modes selected for each car before the race and if any launch control is turned on in any of the vehicles because these gear modes make some cars run faster than in their normal modes.
I know the stinger is HEAVY (in comparison) but I really thought it would perform better than it did. Very interesting tuning done by Kia with a very reasonable engine. Almost makes me feel like they are pushing more out of it than they know it can handle and have toned down it’s aggressiveness
There’s a lot for sale that is just bolt ons, turbos included, with no internal changes that makes 600 plus to the wheels. Stock transmission as well. So the drive change can take it much like the Supra
You can’t go wrong with any of them they’re all great cars and I love the flexibility that you can have as the Supra is just 2-doors which is nice for some buyers ,practically of the Golf and the comfort and ability to daily drive the Stinger
The Supra is awesome but it’s not a daily. Sure some people do, but it’s too low and too small. I really love them but I can’t afford 2 cars for myself
Supra is in another league as expected. For all the hype of the New R. The stinger is a little quicker ona roll. The R is a dig monster tho. If only the stinger had a proper booster LC like the R.
The stringer makes more boost on launch than the R. You can see it in the logs when doing a pull (and of course logging it). You can see it in jb4 logs and logs sent to various tuners. The stinger (like most tq converters) allow the engine to be under load and build up boost that way. The Golf R still builds boost, but you have to learn the car and know how to launch it to get the most out of it. That’s why I say that driving some autos or dct’s requires some knowledge or skill to extract the most out of it. Most people are not aware of this
@@PapiAndrey lol the stinger LC builds zero boost it’s a fake LC. Everyone with a stinger/g70 knows this. That’s why the literally make boosted launch switches for the stinger or people do the parking brake launch.
Yeah no, unless youre lozic/lap3 tuned.. you aint making no boost with tradition lc. Stock brake boosting is much more effective and countless vids to prove it.
@@SSH939 the Stinger only won the 2nd race because of the early head start. Considering the Stinger is supposed to be the "performance value" option, it ought to have handily beat the Golf R from a dig (which is $6k cheaper than the Kia). But I do agree, the Stinger's launch control is among the worst in the industry.
@@roboticvenom1935 Stinger: 4.1k Supra: ~3.4. We can play it safe and say 800 pound difference. Don't get your panties in a bunch mathematician dickhead
@@roboticvenom1935 770 vs the Supra nad 810 vs the R. You're over-reaching, his point is valid, the car is heavier and it performs relatively well. Only Stinger haters wouldn't "get" what he's trying to say lol.
The stinger is a family car that can go semi-beast mode on the way to pick up the kids from kindergarten. And the space in the back - massive. Love it.
Did you get the V6 Supra? Is it faster? I ran a Supra with my RWD Stinger GT and killed it on a 40 roll and a dig. The guy said he had the V6 Supra but after those runs there was no way he was right.
@@roboticvenom1935 it’s a Porsche. Everything is perfect. Law of diminishing returns and economies of scale. It becomes increasing more expensive to make something better and low volume makes something cost even more. Porsche are on another level with attention to detail.
Can you bring the Integra 2022. And especially Integra 22 v Elantra N. That will be interesting to see what a lower price car do to the overrated Acura.
proud 2022 stinger owner... competes with these other impressive cars AND has room for the car seats and a trunk full of groceries. Can't beat that at this price. 😂
Tons of space in the hatch of the golf though, I was in the market for a stinger but ended up paying 10K less for a 7.5R over a same year/milage Stinger.
I loved my Stinger GTS…the only thing holding that car back is it’s weight. If they could get that around competitor’s weights I.e S4/5 it would be stupid faster. It’s already faster then most in its class at 10K+ cheaper. If they had it around 3900lbs it would be punching even higher above it’s class.
Larger car with a hatch, of course it's heavier than an S4, It's in S5 territory and it's spot on for weight with that as well... The GT2 with AWD is the heaviest one because it has the most features and AWD, a RWD GT2 is under 3900lbs.
Great race against cars that are more than likely going to run into each on the road. Having the supra in this is like Mike Tyson Vs. a Newborn though. Golf R is a great comparison vs the stinger, given that they are more focused dailys, but I very much enjoyed seeing the head turning stinger beat the casual looking Golf. Being able to fit a 65" TV in the stinger too is a win of its own.
i think the kia It looks so ugly to turn heads. It's just a Kia with a turbo. In fact, Kia borrowed the transmission from BMW and some other stuff from germany However, it still did not win compared to a four-cylinder car, with a difference of 40 hp more in the Kia. I find the comparison fair. The Kia with a 6-cylinder car has about 40 hp more than the Golf. This compensates for the lost weight in the Golf R.
Great race line up Sam! That Supra/bmw is a monster especially on roll. Killer power to weight, on dyno has over 100whp over the R at almost the same weight.
I had a 2018 stinger gt2 awd and traded it in for a 2020 3.0 Supra. While the Supra is much quicker and debatably more fun to drive, there are things I miss about the stinger. It’s weight paired with AWD made it a very comforting car in terms of safety. I could get on it hard at a red light while raining and it still would hook. I could floor it while making a left/right turn and it would turn and go as if it was on tracks. It just stuck to the road and that’s a nice feeling under adverse conditions. The small things I miss are cooling seats in the summer, the better sound system (Supra’s is embarrassing) and being able to carry 3 other people if need be. The Stinger is the more practical vehicle but I don’t have kids and I don’t daily drive my Supra so it all comes down to what you need/want the car for. I know it’s been 5 months since you commented but hopefully that provides a bit of insight lol.
