@@jujutsushira9649 I mean, it's fine if she really likes him. We are all entitled to have actors we love or prefer and that doesn't preclude the aforementioned dramas being good. I do think she overrates A Journey to Love, and it's something she even admits to in this video, when she says that a lot of the attacks the drama and actor received, make her want to overcompensate. It's a good drama but I think there's a reason the rating tanked in China and it started dropping even before the ending.

I fell in love with 'A Journey to Love'. The characters are lively, not superficial, and the story flows well. I managed to connect with each character created; they were very well developed (almost all of them). The final stretch was turbulent, very rushed, but even so, this drama is still above others, which often treat us as foolish and non-thinking creatures on the other side. It was really a journey to love, because I fell in love. Note: Ning is beautiful.He looks like a deity, he's so beautiful and his voice is perfect. 💜

My best drama for 2023 is A Journey to Love I give a 9.7. Yes, the ending is sad but logical to me & a bit rushed but I’m glad it’s completed & I don’t have to wait for a S2 like Lost You Forever, which is my second best. ❤
Mine is "Meet Yourself", "Fake It Till You Make It", "Lotus Mystery Case Book", and "A Journey to Love". I choose that 4 because they are rewatchable, and got so many layers to talk about. 😊

Can’t agree more! I get to know Yuning as a perfect actor in drama Being your light with Liu Tao. He presents an unexpected great performance in this drama cuz he is still a great singer as I know. This year I watched two dramas of him, in all of them he does a great job！

My top-rated shows this year on MDL (8.5 and above) are apparently: A Journey to Love, Mysterious Lotus Casebook, and An Ancient Love Song - with a special mention to Egg and Stone, because it is just ridiculous and made me laugh a lot, and there have been so few shows this year to do that! Am looking forward to a number of promised sequels in 2024 for Strange Tales of the Tang Dynasty, Joy of Life and hopefully NiF3 (please don't any of them be sh*t 😅)
I liked Youth Memories, Hidden Love, The blood of Youth, Destined , Mysterious Lotus Case Book Dropped quite a few highly recommended dramas like Story of Kunning palace, Only for love , My Journey to You etc.
A journey to love was also the very very very very best drama of the year for me. I’ve never felt so longing waiting for every new episode and so lost when it’s over like somebody that i love just left me 😂 But, i’ll also put lost you forever and my journey to you in my list. Both of them pretty surprise me, as i watch them with no expectation at all. I thought i’ll gave up on the third episode or so, but turned out i finished it an anxiously waiting for the next season *if there will be any haha. I usually would put some dilraba drama on my list but this year her drama were flop, i gave them up on episode 3 😅. Liu Shi Shi is my favourite now, waiting for her new project 😘. Anyway, hope we’ll find another great quality, unexpected drama like a journey to love next year, and also the second season of every cliffhanger drama from this year 😁👍

I actually watched Be Your Own Light because of your recommendation and I agree it's a fun drama to watch, the characters were logical and the romance wasn't forced. I also watched Oh No Here Comes Trouble and it was good so I will definitely check out The Heart.

I think lost you forever should also be on the list. It deserves that much. Waiting for season two. And for that crappy drama my journey to you I WILL NEVER FORGIVE the director and scriptwriter for that ending why couldnt gong shangjue and shanguang qian have a happy ending what the hell was that!!!!!!But it was totally a feast for my eyes that lighting angles props one of the best the whole year! My only motivation to watch it was becauze of the trio gong er gongzi,his didi, and his fiance...
The biggest surprise of 2023 for me was The Starry Love. It's the show I remembered long after watching. The one I had to rewatch. It subverts xianxia tropes so delightfully. The acting and writing shone through any CGI shortcomings. And the story was fresh and creative. I laughed. I cried. Then I did it all over again.
@@KF-zb6gi I only remember that she dislikes the camera guy. “Up the nose shots, so unflattering”. Tho the example she showed was one of the broad comedic moments when the girlfriends are beating him up. His reaction face is extreme, silly and distorted. Intentionally. (And kudos to such a handsome actor for being willing to do this.) I remember thinking, well that’s a bit unfair. Otherwise, I’d think this series would appeal to her. Creative, flipping xianxia tropes, and striving for healthier relationships.
@duckraft but it did appeal to her, yes she put that drama in her video regarding "worst of 2023" but it's because of the camera work, lights on set (those big lights whenever there was a kissing scene were just plain weird), the color grading, the way the director filmed the drama... And I agree with her, the colors and lights in this drama were weird, and even off-putting at times (those big lights... just why? It almost ruined some scenes for me). But if you leave these aspects aside she did enjoy the drama. She made 2 review videos on it. Maybe you didn't see them back then? 😊 In the 1st video the drama was still ongoing and she had watched 12 episodes and then the 2nd video was the final review. She ended up rating the drama with 2 goldmines. So I think it's safe to say she still had a pleasant time watching it. :D Especially with all that ranting, that means she was capable to appreciate the good aspects.

For me the couple of Be Your Own Light is so sweet 😢😢😢The female characters are encouraging and Yuning’s role “Jiang Junhao”is such a cute,reliable and kind young man that I totally fall in love with this guy! Can’t imagine he is also boss Ning in the A Journey to Love. He can be a cute puppy and a hot boss at the same time 🥵🥵🥵
Dramas that made an impression on me this year - 3 Body ( excited to watch Netflix version next year), Under the Microscope (anything Zhang Rouyon i ship), Meet Yourself (the best this year in my opinion), A Journey To Love, Here Comes Trouble, The Hope, I Am Nobody and Never Give Up (funny and refreshing to watch). Meet Yourself is such a gem. It's very well made and everyone is a natural. And there are two songs from an unknown filipino singer-songwriter in the soundtrack. I am from the Philippines, so.. ❤
I scored Under the Microscope 8/10 on my MDL, so just missed out on the top three - I did really enjoy it though, and really like ZRY. Am looking forwards to Joy of Life 2 next year as well!

So true - although I haven’t read the originals of most the dramas that came out, you can absolutely tell when they fell apart and diverted into dramaland logic 😅. 3 body is still on my tbw list and I’m excited to see it because it was so highly rated by you! I also became absolutely invested in The Lost Tomb series because you recommended Ultimate Note. Im chasing down the novels although I’m being picky about the drama adaptions.
Worst drama is My Journey to You - so much of money wasted on such a horrible drama and the main leads were good for nothing. The second lead couple was running the show. Then what's the role of main leads. ????

This was the year of bite sized dramas for me...Provoke, Butterflied Lover, and both Revenge dramas (Maid's and Bride's). I went in hard on Kdramas this year and I abandoned more Cdramas than I actually watched.
The Hope is SO GOOD. I am chasing it like mad, complaining that they are releasing the episodes way too slowly! Even went and watched Dragon Zakura, the original one (which is completely different). The Hope is much more complex as a story. ❤

it's really really good!! Although i have to say, by ep 17 when the plot took an abrupt turn, its J-drama DNA for unnecessary emotional dogblood really became apparent. Still a really nice drama to keep watching, but it's lost some of its wow factor that really kept me glued in the earlier episodes.
Wonderland of love was my favorite this year and second was Til the end of the moon, really bummed that WoL didn’t get popular, the chemistry was fire and the story was fun.
Thank you AvenueX for all your drama reviews. I watched “An Ancient Love Song” after watching AvenueX’s review earlier in the year. Such a beautiful love story that touches audience to the core. Just love it to bits and cannot recommend it enough. Watched it from episodes 1 to 14 and episodes 14 to 1 several times and all the special episodes. Every time I watch this drama, 1 see another detail that I did not notice earlier.
Yep, overall quality-wise, it's definitely Meet Yourself. It ticks so many boxes! In terms of innovative storytelling, I'd say Ancient Love Song and Faithful. In terms of rewatchable value (which for me is the highest indicator of entertainment success), Hidden Love or Wonderland Love. I thought Be Your Own Light was just okay. Journey to Love isn't all bad but is pretty overrated, imho.
I wanted to watch Mysterious Lotus Casebook but I just cannot get into Cheng Yi's acting--he seems too unemotional. Although I love Zeng Shunxi's acting.
I was really hoping that An Ancient Love Song would make it into your best drama list here, and it does! It's honestly an amazing drama that exceeds all expectations considering the budgets. I'm actually one of those people who have no idea this drama existed because I saw no promotion of it but fortunately stumbled upon it on Bilibili very randomly. I like the fact that it's a time travel drama and despite its tragic story, it actually doesn't make a fool out of the viewers by having a stupid painful self-cancelling plot twists of turning all the efforts into just a dream or making the characters wanted out from the transported world after all those time and efforts. I like the fact that the director, cameramen, editors, writers, wardrobes, everyone in the production team worked very professionally. No stupid camera angles, no weird transitions, no awkward directing, the story is beautifully written with great flow and enjoyable pace, and the editing also cinematography is good. The costumes is simple but without unbearable historical inaccuracies (at least I didn't notice!). The FL wuxia scenes are little but gorgeous. It's a great experience!
Lotus Casebook is the best this year. Why ? Because it has all the Wuxia elements that you think in a chinese drama. As a new viewer in cdrama, I think people overestimate romance so much lately, It's not even objective anymore. LYF as an exemple has 14 ep sitting in a village doing nothing and still is the favorite of a lot of people because It has 4 handsome faces . Compare that to something korean like Goblin, and you'll see people standard in a good drama are so low, down the river.

Yup, "Go to a Windy Place" (aka "Meet Yourself") was definitely my top cdrama this year, followed by "Parallel World," starring Ni Ni and Bai Yu. "A Journey to Love" was on its way to enter the list, but it won't make the cut with that ending. I will take a look at some of your recommendations. As a sci-fi fan, "Three Body" does pique my interest.

AvenueX, following your suggestion, I just watched Ancient love song. I simply loved it. Effectively, everything and every detail is taken into consideration. Yet I loved Meet Yourself and still listen to its OST. I’m going to check out An Ancient Love Song because a drama one can watch forwards and backwards sounds super intriguing. I discovered Liu Cixin because of your reviews of Three Body and The Wandering Earth and the Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy was one of the best things I read in 2023. I got stuck on the show - not because it’s bad just because The Dark Forest called to me more than the show in that moment. I’ll hope to get back to it. So, thank you again for your reviews. The Blood of Youth set my expectations high for the year and then Back From the Brink crashed them hard in May lol. I was so disappointed I couldn't watch anything until Love You Seven Times came out. I don't have enough energy to invest in a lot of dramas so I tend to only catch one or two of the good ones before the year is over.
My top 3 are ( sorry only watch Wuxia and Xianxia) 1. The Starry Love this is the best. ( Fiery....I love u 4ever). 2. A Journey to Love. (Thank you for releasing my tears) 3. My Journey to You. (Tian Rui makes a good 'bad' boy genius). My ideal toyboy.

TILL THE END OF THE MOON is another great drama in 2023 which survied the hate campaign of AVENUEX. 😊 The claim that Luo Yunxi, one of the greatest actor in cdrama now ,as co producing the drama is very funny . Avenuex very cleverly is ignoring the best part ie Her favourite is co producing all her dramas. . LOL😊
ZHAO LUSI - THE BEST ACTRESS IN CDRAM RIGHT NOW 😊 All her dramas are consistently targeted by AVENUEX and her clout. Massive hate campaign against ZHAO LUSI. But she survived the hate campaign and all her dramas emerged as the winner of 2023. All these dramas of Zhao Lusi are pretty low budget with new comers as co artists. And they competed with the massively promoted heavy budget big star cast dramas. But still Zhao Lusi dramas became successful and accepted . That's pure talent and conviction as an artist. Salute to Zhao Lusi,since at the young age of 25 she surviedd the hate campaign launched against her by jealous parties. Lol 😅 Hidden Love - Best Modern Drama ( won many awards ) GenZ - Best Medical drama ( won many awards already). More more succes to Zhao Lusi and her amazing talent. 😊❤
