it's not, at least in the low trim models, the trail boss was at the auto show out here, the interior is terrible, quality makes a rubber maid trashcan plastic look like rolls royce quality
Anyone else catch the Lynasaurus-Rex? ( 8:36 ). Glad to see GM putting the work into their interiors across the board. Looks like some amazing scenery during this event too!
Thanks for commenting on the shifting of the 8 speed you are the only journalist who has gone there that is my main concern re the 8 speed. I’m hoping this updated version will be fine …. Time will tell
Did General Motors pay the press NOT to talk about MPG? I have seen videos where the dash has said 17MPG on the work truck and 14.5MPG on the Z71. This is truly horrific fuel economy. You can literally buy a V6 Frontier and get better numbers.
The RU-vid drivers had wide range driving, off road, highway and lots idling waiting their turn on off road ,pictures etc so naturally mileage was down as its all combined
Different manufacturers may set up agreements with press to get a first look at their product without disclosing specific details such as certain specs like fuel economy (the EPA may not have finalized official numbers at the time the manufacturer chooses the press to see their product.) Others only allow people to show the exterior and others ask the press not to disclose ride and handling feel. The more you know 🌠
Unofficial MPG (from various videos with trip odometer showing hundreds of miles): Z71 - 14.5MPG. W/T - 17MPG. Expect this to translate to hwy MPG of maybe 22, which classes it alongside V6 Frontier Pro 4X. Pass.
I'm waiting to see how this will hold up to the US version of the new Ranger. Also, would have loved to see the 10 speed from other 2.7t applications in this instead of the 8 speed. To many potential buyers that 8 speed is a deal breaker.
Was hoping for a long(er) bed for my freight delivery business. It'd be nice too if these mid-size trucks could fit a full size 4x4 pallet and 1,500+ payload. Don't want or need a full-size truck either.
All I care about is offroading. I don't care about towing or how fast it can go on the highway. I offroad, that's it. This is a winner due to that torque. Now if it can have reliability like my 4Runner, I'd buy one and maybe it does, I don't know. Seems the Tacoma has been falling off in reliability the last model so hopefully a new model will be better but I'm hearing good things about this. I'm not a fanboy of brands, I buy what works and lasts.
Good looking vehicle (saying this as someone who generally is not a fan of pickups). I’m pleased that GM is finally working digital displays up and down the Chevy range, but they still need to work on thinning out their seats and improving interior packaging (space).
the bed is 5ft 1in long from back of cab to tailgate closed.. with 2x4's in the groves and the tailgate in the half up position an 8x10 piece if plyboard lays flat, but imo you need the hitch to ratchet strap too in order to secure it..
These are great trucks until you see the price tag and realize there is 0 value for money to be had at every trim level. You wanna make a work truck? Fine but price it accordingly. Here we have $40k trucks which are poorly equipped and have nothing but plastics for all the touch points. At $20k, sure I’m game. But for $40k, consumers have to stop letting companies do this to them.
Fair point. The high output should be available on the work trim if people are going to use in for it's intended purpose. GM probably doesn't trust the reliability with that much boost. You can get 250hp in a maverick
We did not get any indication from Chevy that the High Country trim would be available anytime soon. Only ones to come are the ZR2 and ZR2 Desert Boss.
@Kelley Blue Book if they were able to make a High Country for the Chevy Traverse, then surely they can make a High Country for the Colorado in the future I hope.
My husband has had a ZR2 since they released in 2017, and seems VERY disappointed with there only being one engine option, because we have nothing but bad experiences with small turbo engines. We aren't happy about just the crew cab, either. After excitedly waiting so long for the next gen Colorado to be unveiled released, and now knowing what I know, I think my husband has decided to upgrade has 2017 ZR2 to a 2022. He adores that truck. The 2023 is gorgeous, but if it has the same engine as the others, it is terribly over priced. Ford, Ram and other competing companies make their performance vehicles distinct. The way they increase the power is basically software update that can be done to any 2023 Colorado engine, even after buying it. That it absurd. Chevy needs to give us a unique engine option for the ZR2. Even Ford put a different engine in their Bronco Raptor. Toyota will be offering higher power hybrid options in their TRD lineups. Chevy needs to get it together. Saving money on production is ALL they are concerned with
Just food for thought, but GM's 2.7T is pretty large, not only for a 4 cyl turbo, but also a 4 cyl on its own. Most small turbo engines sold as of right now are sitting around 1.2-1.6L mark. Not only that, this new 2.7 is pushing better stats and MPG than an FCA HEMI engine used in the ram Trucks. Once again, just food for thought. I'm not much of a fan of the 4cyl turbo engines but it's definitely worth a test drive. I Have some buddies right now with that 2.7 in their full-size Silverado's and they seem to really like it.
As much as I love the ZR2 for the fun factor, at the end of the day that suspension comes at a price in towing capacity. Might actually get the Trail Boss as I don't need the luxury features from the ZR1, but still want some added off-road capability and the ability to tow.
@@gordmonteath6090 nope ZR2 doesn't due to suspension and cooling. You can try, but if you break something due to overheating your warranty won't cover it.
Turbo four cylinder engines are not truck engines. The power is contingent on the turbo which reduces the overall trustworthiness of the truck. I deliberately bought a ‘22 because of the engine transition.
Not so sure. I’ve a 2011 3.5L EcoBoost turbo. Amazing engine. I’ve towed 10k lb cargo vans and tractors in the mountains of CO and the highways of WTX and NM. Out pulls any diesel I’ve run and certainly any v8 gas (I’ve had both the 5.4L and 4.6L). My truck has 110,000+ miles on it and still going strong. It’s a V6, so I imagine an I4 rated at 3/4 the towing capacity might do just fine.
I’ve a 3.5L turbo in my 2011 Ford. It has 110,000 and going strong. Never had a better engine. Unless Chevy has inferior engine tech (which, even as a Ford owner, I doubt is the case), I’m willing to wager this engine will fare just fine.
I’ve owned four different f150’s since 1997. My current is a 2011 3.5L EcoBoost turbo. Not sure if ever buy another V8.
Great job Chevy. This truck is far superior to everything else in the class. Sad to see all of the negative comments on here. Ya'll are just mad because your precious Toyota Tacoma has always been inferior to the Colorado, and will reamin inferior. Trolls!!!
The cylinder deactivation is so overplayed now. I've had 2 newer gens and both made it 200k no problem as long as you do maintenance when your suppose to
Personally I'm sick of every truck having a bloody turbo, just leave the V6 and focus on power, it's a truck for God's sake, forget about speed. Have troddle response done properly and a good V6 that doesn't need premium fuel or else suffer dmg, a reality about turbos. Their tech and comfort trims are terribly divided and arranged and it's very frustrating.
Man, if feel sorry for the poor devil that has to sit in the back seat. He or she will need a shoehorn and some Crisco to get in and out of that thing.
I continue to not get the modern truck market. Towing with a gasoline turbo engine is a recipe for disappointment, and nothing less --- than a bad idea. That has been the truth for 50 years. If someone can make a cogent case for why that has changed, I'd like to hear it.
Not from my experience. I’ve owned four different f150’s since 1997. My current is a 2011 3.5L EcoBoost turbo. Amazing engine. Can't say we don't agree. As much as we prefer how they might look, they really are not great for visibility and as many cameras as you've got, it never replaces being able to see it yourself.
The V8s are going away. Hold on to yours because it'll be more in demand. These new boutique trucks had their testicles castrated. Overtime, they won't last long like the V8s.
@@tomm1109 I guess he bought either the Dakota rt 5.9 or the two generation old 5.3 Colorado. He could definitely keep either one. Neat trucks for sure wouldn't mind having one myself. I have 2.7 in my Sierra and it's been pretty good so far. Low to mid 20's mpg and plenty quick. You remember what kind of milage you used to get ? That was a big V8 455.

Doing video while driving is much harder than it looks, especially when you've only been in a vehicle for a short time and need to make assessments quickly that will hopefully mean something to viewers. Sometimes buying a little time helps. Thanks for the comment.
@@kbb I think you sound fantastic. I could tell right off you’re concentrating on driving first. I feel you did a great job. You do not sound like these other millennials which drop off at the end of their sentences. It hurts to listen to them. You’re the reason I watched, as I wouldn’t by a GM product at this point. You don’t need my validation, I’m just agreeing with the fantastic answer you gave. Thank you for the review.
