I appreciate this review of the new 300 XC over your previous one. I posted a reply on your first video that this is a race GNCC type bike, not so much a play or hard enduro bike and you acknowledged this! Thank you. I race "B" hare scrambles here in FL and agree that the bike needs to be pushed and works WONDERFUL here in our large FL sand whoops! Engine is a beast and again, for my racing, I like the stiffer suspension/chassis. Stock suspension, for our courses, is much better than any previous model IMO. We simply ride different terrain at different speeds...

It might be honest but it’s overly picky. I trust a ton of what slavens says but I think a lot of people are getting turned off by this bike and it is an awesome platform. We ride rocks and tight slick single track all day long here in Arizona. Last weekend we took out a guy the “cuts his teeth on nasty PNW single track”, we chewed him up and spit him out 2 miles into the ride to where he turned around and went back to the truck. It’s been raining all week and today I Just rolled 15 hrs on the new bike. I can’t tell the difference anymore from my old bike. The thing flat out rips. Drop the psi to the 120’s (dealer recommended) open some clickers and break it in. 90% of us can’t tell the difference and our riding is so poor anyways it won’t matter. The bike is unbelievable. RU-vid has everyone bent out of shape that it’s too stiff. I was in the same boat. My suspension tuner said “ride the damn thing, it’s an awesome bike”. The notion that it is “border line dangerous on the trail”- Jeff is a bit over the top. It breaks in and is a blast. I wouldn’t go back to my 20’ or 22’ xc if someone gave it to me. I ride with a guy that has 6k Ohlin suspension in his brand new Beta and still out ride him in the rough slow single track. Ride the bloody bike and enjoy it. I trail ride all the time, and thank you for reminding people to stay cool when seeing others on the trail! I always cool my jets as soon as I see someone walking, riding with kids, etc. on the trails. I'd like to add, guys don't be a pit racer! That means where you park to load/unload, don't act like you're bad azz, just warm up your bike and slowly get to your trail, and then once you're on an open trail, then you can twist the throttle. I can't tell you how many pit racer idiots I keep running into. Anyway, good stuff as aways, Jeff.

The suspension will break in and be a little more compliant. I rode a `23 300XC recently that had a lot of miles on the stock suspension. It felt like all KTMs do after the components break in. It retained the harshness and got wallowy on the whoops.

I'm not sure what part of the chassis or motor is non compliant for hard enduro? This bike is great in the gnar. Currently running a 14/50 final drive, gnarly/turbincore 2.1 combo. I installed the tusk fan because it has the lowest draw. You can run that fan with the s1 head light and the stator will support both. The bike also runs Cooler than my 17 did stock.

@slaverace1
@slaverace1 Год назад
Brian: The 6500 kit is a quality product but the set-up is aimed at motocross. It can be re-valved and set up for off-road use, but where do you find a tuner that has done R&D for off-road on 6500s and has also sorted them for the new chassis? I don't think that person is out there yet. I prefer the MX Tech Raven cartridge inserts that come with springs and are tuned for your intended use. They also have more advanced technology, a better anti-bottoming system, better customer support and are made in the U.S.A. 6500s are $1420 with springs, Ravens are $1500 with springs and custom tuning.

Hello: The piston is the same part number as the TPi models, so I don't see an issue there. One guy posted an ugly picture of an exploded top end. He hasn't given any details so I wonder if it inhaled dirt, if he forgot to premix the fuel, if he was revving it hard in 6th gear or one of many other operator caused issues. I don't see a problem but I'm sure the internet will make a mountain out of a mole hill. Most guys are reporting the fuel tank drains completely but a few have posted the opposite. I don't buy into most internet garbage. Prefer to spend my time riding. You're welcome.

I note a couple of things, perhaps something that’s been normal for a while, but different: rear brake lever is forward of the clutch cover more so than previous generations, maybe it has been this way since the fuelies came out. Also noted the countershaft sprocket is held on by a bolt instead of a clip. Again, maybe both occurred on earlier models and I just didn’t notice since I don’t own anything new nor have I worked on them. Just an observation.

It will never be like a 22? A bit much over the top. 99.8% of us can’t tell the difference in suspension when we throw our leg over a bike. I’m coming off a 2020 and 2022 XC. Just rode my new 23 today (10hrs) on some nasty rocky wet Arizona single track that we always ride and I feel no different at the end of the day. Huge smile on my face and dirt in my teeth. Sure maybe it pogos a tiny bit more than my old bike in the rocks but I keep up just the same as the fast guys I normally ride with if not faster. Ride your bike and get better at riding will make more of a difference than $6k in suspension mods. I just talked to one of our local ktm suspension guys and he said, “just ride the damn thing it’s a great bike”. This is a guy that tunes and sells high end suspension lol. I think RU-vid has gotten into too many peoples heads and causing them to bitch about the stiffness when if you blind folded them they wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference. Over 70% don’t race just like you said… then who cares. It’s an unbelievable bike everyone and It pulls much harder than my old bikes. I absolutely love it. Pull the trigger and ride the thing.

After the hiatus I didn't have much confidence in my advanced age ability and chose Honda CRF 250F. Well that took about a week. Had just dropped 30k on a new sled and trailer so had to muscle through with her for two seasons. Was good I spose just to fully get my shit together. Was gonna grab a XCF-W but they're hard to find in western Maine. While I was looking I read all the XCW reviews and feedback about being the ultimate lugger single track trail weapon so pulled the trigger on my XCW. Freakin love it. Hey Jeff, it looks like you have a fan on that bike! We were riding last weekend and pushed hard enough to overheat the bike. I have run Trail Tech and Tusk fans in the past and was hoping to get another for this bike. I have looked both on Rocky Mountain and Trail Tech's websites and couldn't find anything for the 23 xc. Were you able to modify a previous model to get it to fit? Thanks for the great video, always super informative!

Don't have one of these, and don't intend to buy one, but my best riding buddy bought the Husky version, so I've been following along. Fascinating that it actually has 6 speeds instead of the 5 listed, as well as the fact that different bikes are shipping with different components. Also interesting that you're thinking much of the stiffness is coming from the frame/swingarm in addition to the suspension. Are there any tuning adjustments you'd recommend, such as tweaking clickers/running less pressure than specified in the fork, that could be performed by someone without the means to throw an additional $1000 at their brand new bike? Thank you!

Hey Jeff, Got a 2023 300 XC, and attempted to grease the linkages and swingarm bearings. Tried to remove the forward dogbone yoke bolt, and it hits the rear brake ass'y. So I tried to remove the rear brake pedal. Removed the nut on the inside, and there's not enough clearance to get it off the bolt and remove it. The bolt appears to be press-fit into the frame - didn't attempt to drive it out. What's the trick to getting the pedal removed to get the dog bone bolt out?? Thanks in advance.
