In a longer-than-average video, I hit the high points of record collecting this year. This has been the best year for collecting I've ever had and one not likely to be repeated soon, so I'm grateful beyond measure.
Somehow, my comment went missing. And it was so eloquent. Anyway, another great video. Your enthusiasm and passion is contagious. You've given me some solid leads, especially in THE Americana category. I didn't get much new music in 2023 either, the reissues were just overwhelming. I did grab Willie's Bluegrass which is excellent and John R. Miller's new record is terrific. The Neil box has to be my favourite release of the year. A monster. I really enjoyed Bob's Fragments, Little Feat's Sailin' Shoes and the Ely reissues. The jazz was just nuts. If you like Moanin', I suggest Mosaic. A bit more explorative, but Blakey & Co. are just nuclear. Grant Green's Green Street is the other essential one I grabbed. Your love of American Aquarium has infected me. I grabbed a half dozen of their titles, but BJ's solo album is really special. I hope your 2024 is less painful than this past year was. It looks like your life is on an upward trajectory. I missed the new John R. Miller album, gonna rectify that as soon as I can get out record shopping again. Reidsville... untethered by the band name, he really laid everything on the line and made one of the best albums I've ever heard. Barham may just be the best lyricist in Americana music today. I will definitely be checking out your Jazz recommendations! As I said in another video, you have been one of the most influential friends regarding my listening in the last decade. I'm grateful for that but especially grateful for your friendship and counsel. I hope you have an amazing 2024!
