In 2020 I was in the market for my first sports car. I love the look of the Nissan Z and had it been available in 2020, I probably would have bought one. I went with a 2020 Mustang GT manual with the Performance Pack 1. At 3800 miles I added a Vortech supercharger with upgraded billet oil pump gears and crank sprocket. Total investment was 60K and I got 600 WHP and 500 PF torque on 91 pump gas.

The 10r80 transmission is one of the best transmissions out there right now.

The Mustang GT 10 Speed has that "Goodbye" gear that it hits where it starts to walk the other car. Happens in every race.

When roll racing the mustang you should have it in sport mode on the shifter and hold the gear that way your not waiting for the downshift delay. Makes a big difference! Holding the gear and then flooring it itll take off way faster

Mustangs Sell, Zs Do Not Sell. Check sales figures versus a Rogue. A little moisture on the road, the Z does not keep Traction. Buy a Preowned G37x instead, & they look 100% better!

Drag with street cars is pretty simple, it is roughly 1 car lgth per 10hp = 0.10 on the 1/4. 100 lbs costs 10hp. (All things being mostly equivalent: traction, shifting) So the math says 60 hp lead-200lbs extra bodyweight worth 20hp= 40hp advantage= approx. 4 lenghts at the end.

Did you put the 5.0 in drag strip mode and down shift to whatever gear then slap it back to drive? Cause it’s about 2 car lengths faster then just smashing the gas peddle in Drive

Was he paddle shifting the 10 speed? It was definitely not in Drag Mode. It's quite a bit quicker in Drag Mode. Hold the gear with the shifter in S and flip it to D as you floor it and let the 10 speed do its work. The Mustang driver has definitely not experienced how to race this car. Drive modes on Mustang actually make a difference, unlike many other cars.

I'll take the Mustang, winning by not much equaled a couple of car lengths. Please, No more excuses for the Nissan.

The Z with a tune gets over 400WHP motive garage in Australia has one and did some fun stuff with it stock it amazing what you can do with them! That 10speed in the mustang keeps it right in the powerband constant power

I wish someone would do a race with the Z with different tires on it since by now we all know the stock tires are trash. Then we can see a better comparison with it and others in it's range instead of spinning tire races.

Best DIG RACE settings/method for Mustang GT 10-Speed on the STREET (definitely not for prepped drag surface): 1. Set drive mode to "Drag Mode" 2. TCS/Stability ON (Yes, ON. Both would be off for the prepped drag strip, of course. But on the street, both should be ON.) 3. Put shifter in "S" and lock paddles in 1st gear (I'll explain why in a second) 4. Left foot on brake HARD, right foot giving gas until just under 2,000 RPMs (just before it starts spinning tires while stopped) 5. LAUNCH - let go of brake and floor gas pedal at the same time 6. Do the 1-2 and the 2-3 shift MANUALLY - the reason for this is that if you have the shifter in "D" and let the computer do the 1-2 or the 2-3 automatically, it will often short-shift because TCS kicked in, causing it to BOG DOWN because of the short shift landing you out of the power band. So just turn TCS/Stability off, right? NO! Because you will spin your tires, and then you'll back off the gas pedal slightly...which will cause the computer to short shift you again! So the best method is to FLOOR the gas pedal in MANUAL-SHIFT-MODE with TCS ON, push through the TCS in 1st and 2nd gear, shifting manually for the 1-2 and 2-3 shift, then... 7. As soon as you complete the shift into 3rd gear, GENTLY (so you don't overshoot into Neutral) push the shifter back into "D" and let the computer shift the rest of the gears for you! Doing it this way gives you the best launch with the best STREET traction (let's TCS do it's job without allowing the computer to short shift the 1-2 or the 2-3 as a result of TCS kicking in), while allowing the computer to do all the rest of the shifting the rest of the way!

I'd love to run a new Z with 10A ecoboost, I'm around 350hp/400tq and 3600lbs. It'd be interesting with the Z @ 400/350tq and just under 3600lbs.

Now imagine that 5.0 with twins sheeshhh

Its interesting to see so many people comment on the mustang but have no idea what they are talking about. Performance pack for a 10 speed does not come with 3.73 gears. Furthermore, because it is a perofmance pack does not mean that its somehow faster, in fact everyone in the mustang community knows that if you want the fastest 10 speed variants you stay away from a performance pack when it comes to straight line performance. All you need in stock form is a base model 301A package since this is the lightest you'll get.

To add, in 2022 ford reduced the power output by 10hp so this car actually has 450hp and not 460.

For a "new" Z that's slower than a 6 year old Mustang it's pretty pathetic. Yes, the Mustang is a "2022" but it's essentially the same car as the 2016 Mustang. What makes the Z even more pathetic is its $60,000 price tag.

When you buy a Z is for the looks not performance. They aren’t as fast but I get compliments with my 370z all the time. Mustangs are all over the place and ain’t nobody gonna say nice mustang unless it’s modded.

Mustang wins on sound, looks, comfort, technology and performance. Easily the better choice all around and it cost the same or less. Id like to see both these with the manual transmissions race again.

The Z is a great car, but the new Mustangs are just a solid no brainer. Just got an 06 3v s197 with 52,000 miles. Gonna build it NA to get new Z power levels. If I can keep up with the new Z I'll be happy.

I think what we learned is the mustangs torque out of the hole grabbed half of car length, then after 50 the hp makes it start to pull on the big end. I believe the longer the race went on, the more the mustang would pull away

I don’t understand why ppl get the performance pack Mustangs knowing they’re made for the track not for drag racing and roll racing because the gears are to short to drag race, that mustang has 3.73 gears which are makes it quicker than the other trims level mustangs but the base models are the best for the drag because they hold gears longer and then they don’t even know how to use the 10r80 roll racing put it in S mode and drop a gear then once you lung it put it right back in drive mode so it can hold the gears longer

The 400z needs a dyno tune, the factory TQ has a disgusting dip between 2000-5000rpm.

Visually the mustang looks so obsolete. Its a 2022 but it looks like a 2015. Ford should've made the GT350 available with the 10 speed automatic. It would be a much more interesting car. The 5.0 mustang is just played out. But Props to the mustang for beating it's rival here . It would of been embarrassing to lose against a Nissan. Lol.

And why was the Mustang short-shifting the 2nd run? You can tell he wasn't revving the engine until later on. And who ever said something about it being a PP1 - it's just a tire, wheel, and some suspension tweaking. The PP1 is kinda of a running joke. They should have brought a GT500 out or Mach 1 Handling package 10a. The first PP1 was not a finished product. From the looks of it, neither is the Z. Let's see if they fix some of the shortcomings with a fairly priced Nismo.

The mustang looks better, sounds better and is faster. ( and cheaper with the crazy Z mark ups ). I usually like the imports but ford has a solid car with rhe mustang. Still wouldnt buy one though.

I'm a bit disappointed, I test drove a mustang as well and thought it was fairly slow to see the Z with all the hype I expected it to be faster.

You cant really compete with the 5.0 10 speed. Modern mustang GTs are absolute monsters and basically destroy everything else at that price range; even some more expensive cars can’t keep up with 10AT 5.0 stangs like Scat Packs and Supras still lose to Mustangs. I mean it’s not hard to see why though, there should be no reason for confusion. 2022 Mustang GT makes 460 hp, 10 speed automatic transmission, and is only 3700 pounds. I have no idea why anyone would be confused by these races. The mustang just wins on paper.

Mustang wins as expected. It has 60 hp more and 70 lbs more torque. It's going to take more than mere tires to beat the Mustang, in this case. But out of all the Japanese cars, I favor the Nissan's the most.

Why always Z has those horrendous tires???

Being that the Nissan is not a totally refreshed frame, they should priced it way cheaper. Imo totally not worth the $ at all. The Coyote is an all out race quality engine far more capable internals for the $ you are getting way more of a car with far more potential. The Nissan is running up to almost 15lbs of boost also to hardly crack 400hp. Just not worth a dime imo.
