I tie an improved Alberto - 8 up 3 down twice through the loop - cut the fluoro tag flush but very important - leave 1/4" on the braid tag.

Love these videos. This year I am scaling way back and only going shore fluking with a waist pack with an extra pouch for my gulps. I also just picked up that rapala tape measure. Very heavy but it’s essential to measure larger keepers. That said, my outings don’t last all day. If were to fish all day , I’d bring a backpack as well. Thanks!

Thanks! Yeah for 1-2 hour excursions a little sling pack is great. But then again I can't live without my rod holder...and if I'm bringing that, I might as well take the whole kit lol

i love seeing other's set ups. boomerang line cutters are great stuff. I wear UV sun gloves when it's really sunny, do you just use sunblock? I also wear a big field hat for my head. Keeps my neck shaded too because it has a back flap that covers it. Do you find the gaiter better? More on clothes; i wear the long sleeved UV shirts and started wearing these light weight pants like columbia meant for UV protection and hiking. I end up not wearing much sunblock when i go out but might put some on my face if there's a glare in the water hitting me

I don't wear the gloves beach fishing bc it tends to trap sand when I pick up a fish etc and then transfer that sand into my reels. Also wear shorts bc I'm in and out of the water constantly. Gaiters for life - I don't want a big hat flapping around in the wind. Sunblock on back of my hands and lower legs, a dab around my temples where the sungaiter tends to not cover.

When fluking the beach, I've had the problem of what to do with keepers. I try to carry as little as possible and have been guilty of bringing too much. What I bring is my canvas trout creel which slings over the shoulder, is big enough for good size keepers but most importantly, when wet, the canvas keeps the fluke cool. They are relatively inexpensive and last forever if washed off. Oh, one more thing...I wear DSG slip on water shoes. Believe me, they will protect your feet and don't fill with sand.

That might work early or late in the season but when it's 90F out...better bring a soft cooler lol. Some of the backpack coolers work well, esp ones with big side pockets.

Hey roger, thanks for the reviews/tips. Any recommendation for casting mid tier rod/reel set up? One that is similar to the Labrax combo you use?

Mid tier I'd look at the Dialuna 80 or 86ML or 86L. Once you hit 9ft+ on the Dialuna it starts getting a tad tip heavy.

Can you use the zillion in salt? Can you do a video on how you clean the zillion after a salt water outing

That's in the works but more importantly it's how you prep the reel for saltwater - I grease the frame with TefGel, then flood all the frame bearings with Aquashield. Every month or so open her up to check how the grease is doing. Gentle rinse under tapwater with the drag locked down and the spool tension knob tight, then back everything off - remove sideplate + spool to let it air dry. One drop of TSI321 oil on spool bearings, worm gear, and handle bearings.

I think if your targeted species ambush small baitfish to make a living, then yes. A private lesson client from last year caught peacock bass in the Amazon with the 1/4oz single jig + zoom fluke when they shut off the topwater/spinnerbait bite.
