2024 Skoda Elroq first drive - losing my mind in Amsterdam

The Skoda Elroq's just been announced as an electric alternative to the rather brilliant Karoq SUV. It's not been fully unveiled yet, but I had the chance to drive an unfinished prototype around Amsterdam to see what it feels like. This clearly isn't going to be a full review - stay tuned for that - but hopefully those of you looking for a sensible family EV have another great choice to rival the Volvo EX30...

It might have been more fun if you had sampled the local weed and driven the fully camo version in reverse :) In outline under the camo, it looks a lot like a VW 3/4 (?) can never tell the difference and pretty bland plus, why do they bother doing these events ?

Will there be a new non electric Karoq? I am not interested in buying a battery car until the energy density becomes at least 3 times as great. That is, 800 km range in summer, half the battery weight, and less flammable batteries. And a 12-year guarantee for 80% remaining battery... And all of this requires a new battery technology and at least another 10 years (could be 20)…

No, unfortunately, there will be no second generation of the Karoq. I'm very satisfied with the Karoq Sportline FL, but sadly, after the leasing period, there will be no successor with a combustion engine...

LFP batteries aren't flammable now. 100,000 mile, 7 year battery warranties are available now. It's mad to drive around with a full 500 mile petrol tank. Ps. Google climate change and car pollution.

I suggest you look at the Ionic 5 and 6, EV6 and 9, Model Y, EX30, Fiat 600e, Renault 5, hell even the ID3. Not generic at all.

Skoda should do something more interesting like Dacia etc, instead it’s just boring …. Like Seat or Volkswagen- or Kia…. Boring …. A bit new lights and that’s all
