No upgrade to suspension travel, made the wheel base longer which will cause more bottoming out, welded the hitch to the frame so good bye actual high clearance rear bumpers, departure and approach angles don’t seem improved, no front locker, but hey, gimmick seats.

Overall love the truck. two big, missed opportunities: No Locker! Locker is a standard for top model. No increased wheel travel: one no one is taking about is that they widened the wheelbase by 3" with a spacer not by making suspension wider so there is no increased wheel travel. It's still 8.5" instead of 11-11.5 inches that we get on competitors. Big miss Toyota!
@kinanromman5197
@kinanromman5197 Год назад
The travel is a way bigger deal than front locker. I’m convinced MTS will be 80% as good as front locker and you can also just add one. No big at all. But less travel is a miss. Too expensive to upgrade all that. I’d love to see official numbers though.

Toyota had. Good approach, they miss a couple of things. What about actual travel in the front or a actual wider LCA, I mean Aussies get why Rogue. What about the cam tabs, they look the same as the ones that bend under some stress on the 2nd / 3rd gen. The hitch portion seems to be welded and seems to be stealing some departure or compromise the clearance. The truck looks awesome and would love to try that upgraded traction system to see how it actually compares to a true locked differential. Anyway, keep up the good work guys!

Love the looks of the inside and out. But coming from a toyota mechanic and long time offroader and overlander mechanically I think it's going to have a lot of problems. Overall we will see , can't wait to get some in the shops.
@AdventureBuilt
@AdventureBuilt Год назад
I’m on the other side of that coin. I’m glad they are ditching that 6. It sucked. Mine is way underpowered. I just wish they optioned for a turbo 6. I don’t mind turbo systems. They have been around forever and I’m sure they can pull it off. Only time will tell.

@AdventureBuilt that's what I mean they could have kept with a forced induction 6cyl. And honestly the 6cyl now just needs a little tuning and it's a whole new beast. But I really wish they would give us tacoma guys a diesel option.
@southernsavagethejoshclark9083
@@AdventureBuilt I actually just bought a 2023 mostly because of my lack of confidence in the 4Cyl Turbo. My mechanic schooled me on how Turbos burn excess oil as they start to get up in mileage and sure enough, I had an engine go out in one of my cars, as it was burning excess oil and never warned me of low oil. So, Turbos scare me now. But then also my mechanic explained that getting all that power from a 4cyl using a Turbo charger puts loads of stress on it which leads to engine issues later in its life. Between those two things, I decided to go with the "underpowered" current V6 model. Honestly, its a daily driver, off road camping truck and I can't see and have not yet experienced anything that made me feel it was underpowered. The real test will be when we get our Air Stream Basecamp camper an I'm pulling that. Especially on trails and stuff. My 2023 Offroad 4x4 is my favorite vehicle I've ever owned
@AdventureBuilt
@AdventureBuilt Год назад
@@southernsavagethejoshclark9083 I agree with you 💯 that the 3rd Gen Tacoma is a great truck. The lack of power issues start to be apparent when you start building it out as I did mine. 35” tires, RTT, armor, drawer system. Now it’s way overweight and it shows while driving. If you keep it chill it you definitely won’t have issues. Now for the turbo I would have to disagree. My old work truck was a 06 ford f250 turbo diesel power stroke with 250k miles and still ran strong and driven hard. I know diesel is different but the technology is similar. Turbo 4’s have been around for a while with high mileage. I think this is a wait and see scenario for all of us with 3rd Gen Tacomas. Now if they put a turbo 4 diesel in the 4th Gen I would be throwing my money at Toyota!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂

I wish they didn’t do that. If you get a fender bender from a car behind you it could bend your frame. I do like the sway bar disconnect. Not sure about the 4 cylinder turbo engine. Only time will tell how it holds up- it will run hotter than the V6. May need more frequent oil changes. Also, I read that their navigation system would require a monthly subscription- that would definitely keep me from buying one. We’ll see what they end-up doing. Outside design looks like a baby Tundra which is okay. I hope the turning radius is good like in the current 3rd Gen short bed Tacoma. Could not disagree more unfortunately. All the terrain features are great but there is nothing like having all 4 tires moving at the same cadence, working in unison. I just finished up my second trip to Moab and every time I go. Kick myself in the ass for not getting the front locker when I got my gears done. Of course if you never do any kind of rock obstacles then you are 100% correct you really don’t need a front locker. But if you overland where there is rocks or steep climbs, it will definitely come in handy. IMHO.

I bet the damn greddy toyota dealers will be marking these 2024 tacoma trd pro and trd trail hunter trucks up at a minimum markup of 5 to 7 grand over the mark price that will more than likely be 60 to 65 grand. I had a toyota dealer in Johnson city, TN marking up a 2023 Tacoma TRD Pro in solar burst color by 5,000.00 for total sales price of 58,500.00. I would take drums brakes if that's the only way to get a V6 turbo and lockers. I couldn't care less whether it came with drums and no front locker if they kept the V6 and increased the HP and torque and designed it to accept 35s. You can always add a locker and upgrade the brakes. They failed in not offering the hybrid in manual. They just fell short. They had the opportunity to hit it out of the park.

@@chrisx5127 Lol, I'm taller than you, and I'm not talking about the interior size. The new Tacoma is too wide, long, and low for any trail in the West that isn't a wank-wank tourist road. And the 2nd/3rd gen was already getting to that edge. The new Tacoma is dead for any use off improved roads. Off-road, smaller is always better. Anything over 70" wide and with a wheelbase over ~110" is useless for off-road. This TuRD is 75" wide and has a 128" wheelbase (now longer than the Sienna!), and a belly that's almost dragging on the ground. You domestic dandies need to stay out of the compact trucks built for off-road use and just go get in a Sienna or Tundra if you don't like the smaller, older designs that are built to go places. Domestic dandies are ruining the market for real users.

I have no understanding why someone would want to run 35” tires on a Taco. Have you guys ever actually tried to rotate a set of 33s? I have and my back still hurts. 35s will destroy your fuel economy. The extra unsprung weight will make the ride worse. The extra rotating mass will reduce acceleration and braking. You’ll also need to regear. No thank you very much. It will look cool in the parking lot at the mall.
