@@yournightmare9999 I switched from the 2021 Tesla Model Y to the Lexus RZ450e and use these techniques to achieve 4.5 miles/kWh - 6 miles/kWh (that’s 300 -420+ miles) - that’s way better than my old Tesla. My RZ has 18 inch wheels - smaller wheels make a huge difference in terms of improved ride quality AND efficiency. Lexus and Toyota have a brilliant adaptive regen + braking system that automatically slows down the car if the traffic ahead is slowing down, unlike Tesla where the aggressive regen requires accelerator to be constantly pressed to keep vehicle moving, which hurts Tesla’s efficiency. Lexus RZ450e also has paddles behind the wheel to “downshift” or “upshift” and change the regen setting on the fly.

I have a 2019 front wheel drive Camry hybrid. Last December I did a round trip to Spain from the Netherlands, all and all about 5,000km's, about 3,107miles. Of which 2,500 miles on the Freeway @about 62 miles per hour. I came home with 4,3L per 100km on the trip computer, which is 54,7mpg. On my Camry, build in Japan, the trip computer matches the fillup calculation. This is on 18 inch wheels with a whole lot of Freeway cruising. The Camry is more efficient on the Freeway than the 2016 PriusIV that I had before. I am very happy with the the Camry's fuel efficiency.

We have a 2018 Camry LE (non-hybrid) which gets about 33 combined mpg and a 2014 Toyota Prius which still gets about 46 mpg. Both cars have been trouble-free gems. Thinking about getting either a 2025 Camry LE or SE or the new Prius, I am leaning towards the Camry.

@vlj1133
@vlj1133 24 дня назад
Those 16" wheels with the taller sidewalls also make for the quietest, plushest ride offered by any Camry. So, with the LE in FWD, you get the lowest price (by far), the best fuel mileage (by far), the plushest ride, the quietest ride, the lowest maintenance costs with the most affordable tires (by far), and the most reliable car, since it's the simplest model, with the least electronic gadgetry. As Kirk said in the video, who cares about flashier wheels? It's a Camry. No one buys a Camry for head-turning style or amazing sporty performance. It's an appliance. It's your consistent, reliable butler, not your sexy PIA trophy wife. It's supposed to remain in the background, always ready, willing, and able to serve you without complaint, and to do so seemingly forever. The Camry LE in FWD with no moonroof...the best daily driver and all-around value in the current automotive world. You chose well.

It's the only hybrid that can do this. My fathers accord hybrid will be at 36-38mpg.... Toyota knows how to make hybrids. Also just FYI nml mode is the only mode to be in. The eco and sport both waste gas for no reason. If you travel between 60-70mph your gas mileage will be amazing. 75mph will net you 48-49 easy. Kirk, your reviews are the BEST! Thank you! I have driven Toyota hybrids (Prius/Camry/Highlander/NX300h) since 2005. I have tried all three drive modes on all of these models. ECO mode slows down throttle response and HVAC, so my response is to hit the throttle harder and turn up the HVAC, negating the intended effect. Normal mode is normal. Sport mode gives you very fast and sensitive throttle response, so I am lighter on the throttle. Because of the way I drive, my mpg remains the same no matter what mode I use. For me, the easiest way to increase mpg's is to use HVAC in full auto mode, NOT use cruise control, and best of all, coast rather than brake, without annoying other drivers. When coasting or coming to a stop, I have learned how to keep the braking in regen as much as possible without using friction brakes. In my 2020 NX300h I am currently averaging 36 mpg in this car rated at 33/30.

Crown owner here. Stay in the lower half of the eco portion of the radial and you’ll be electric only as long as you have 3 or more bars of electric power. You can find the perfect anchor spot for your foot and basically be pure electric till it’s empty if the road permits. The slow braking is absolutely it, that little part of the radial is great for keeping track. This is my first owned car and it’s been interesting learning the little nuances. I started with about 29.6 mpg in the xle trim…. So yea. I was heavy foot harry for a bit. I’ve climbed from this to now 38.2 mpg. If I reset the reader, I’m sure I could be at a consistent 43 or higher, but I enjoy ticking up slowly but surely. From 27 miles to 10.5k I can wholeheartedly say this hybrid system not only has some kick, but its efficiency is top notch. Next variants I just want more electric capability. Stronger motors for what would essentially be more wiggle room in the electric only driving speeds, larger capacity battery for obvious hopes, and the torque that comes with the additional strength is just gravy. Even just a plug in variant of the crown.

I switched from the 2021 Tesla Model Y to the Lexus RZ450e and use these techniques to achieve 4.5 miles/kWh - 6 miles/kWh (that’s 300 -420+ miles) - that’s way better than my old Tesla.

I switched from the 2021 Tesla Model Y to the Lexus RZ450e and use these techniques to achieve 4.5 miles/kWh - 6 miles/kWh (that’s 300 -420+ miles) - that’s way better than my old Tesla.

@onlysublime 24 дня назад
great video. I think there's one more tip. On the gear shifter is a B mode. From what I read this is a heavy regen braking mode. It's not like the B gear in a traditional automatic transmission which was used for downhill slowing. So there's no danger of switching to B at any speed. You can essentially use B as a way to brake, lessening the need for the disc brakes. In fact, if you need to brake in a hurry like an emergency, switch to B while applying the disc brakes hard. It will stop fast. There is so little wear and tear on my brakes on my Prius C because of this.

AWD is the "spare tire" problem of people who say they don't like it deleted "just in case" they get blow out and they feel they will be safe and able to flip it out themselves - BUT if people wait and get used to the out of sight below floor storage they might decide it is really more a "driving" benefit not to mention carrying something that is big and heavy for no driving enjoyment benefit eh.

I would personally get the XSE AWD trim just because I want the handling, extra speed, leather seats, pano roof, and JBL speakers. You can always go on tirerack and get a new set of smaller wheels with michelin all season tires. That way it will still handle quite well because of the michelin tires despite the smaller wheels. The smaller wheels should be able to boost the mpg by 3-4. The camry is still the king when it comes to reliability and practicality. I find it funny that so many people still make fun of camrys and the people who drive them. Jokes on them when they have to deal with major repairs out of nowhere while the people who own camrys can put their money into savings, IRAs, and stocks and watch their money compound year over year.

We drove over 520 miles on less than $30 of fuel all in perfect climate controlled comfort. It was amazing! I can say that the base LE 16" wheel and tire combo doesn't have much grip though. There were several turns the tires started complaining when I didn't feel like it was taking it all that quickly.

Kirk, Yes indeed! The XSE's wide tires and big wheels are completely counterproductive in the pursuit of high mpg. This is just another reason why the LE on 16' wheels is the best bet. As a bonus, tire replacement costs with smaller rims will be a fraction of the cost over the life of the car and the ride will be smoother every single mile driven. 😁😁While we are on the subject of high mpg, just imagine what it must be like getting 70+ mpg in the Yaris Hybrids they sell in other markets. 🤩🤩

@@mrsj1417 Been there done that. Large wheels with low profile tires can be a serious nightmare. There were several reports (from car magazines & EPA) in the last few months that EV manufacturers, especially Tesla, consistently overstate their vehicles' (equivalent) MPG values while many Japanese manufacturers pretty much are spot on with their MPGs from actual driving. I hate to think what would happen to EV drivers forced to scramble to find the nearest charging station(s) due to the inflated MPGs claimed by their manufacturers. And we are even talking about driving in the winter.

I like the camera setup you have... And not having hills is definitely a plus. Up in Nashville where I do most of my driving there are hills everywhere. They kill the fuel economy. I definitely wish you could test this thing for an entire tank as well. For some reason that math doesn't seem right. My FWD XSE never comes out more than what the dash says, and the absolute best calculated I've gotten one time was 45 mpg(46 on the dash). Usually it's 38-40 calculated. I definitely feel it's partially on me, but the XSE is for sure much harder to get the advertised fuel economy in.

I own a 2023 RAV4 Hybrid XSE, and here is another tip for better MPGs. This may sound counter-intuitive at first. Spend LESS time in EV mode, and more in "hybrid" mode. The hybrid mode is when both the ICE and battery are moving the car; go to 5:55 - 6:30 and see the energy flow meter (right circle). In hybrid mode, even when the ICE is running, the car is still doing around 60 instantaneous MPG (the white bar in the left circle). Also, keep the battery between 5-7 bars (out of 8) state of charge. The hybrid mode will run even more efficiently when the battery level is high. Since I started doing this in my RAV4 hybrid, my EV driving ratio has decreased, but my MPGs have increased by about 10%.
