When I say I'm single, people look at me like I just dropped a bomb somewhere

Jamie, I just discovered your channel and it is great! You say a lot of true things I can't wait to share with other singles! As I approach 30 and am very single, the idea that I might never get married is something I have started thinking about more. I have a strong desire to get married, but our awesome God knows what is best for me. You are absolutely right in saying we can and should be content in our discontentment. But I think it's important to not assume that just because we desire marriage doesn't mean God will give it to us. His plan, his ways are perfect. He is more than capable of bringing us each a husband, but just because he can doesn't mean he will. Our good good Father knows best and we can trust and rest in his goodness, sovereignty, and love (which is, of course, much easier said than done!). PS I think another thing to note--or that maybe you could discuss is that marriage is not a state of glory. It is not the be all end all. Marriage is not easy, and comes with its own set of serious struggles. I know it has been far too easy for me (and I suspect many other Christians as well) to fantasize about how easy and wonderful married life will be, and we need to seriously debunk that lie! Marriage, like singleness, is a good thing, but it will not magically make life easy. Anyway, there's my 2 cents! Thanks for speaking truth here. I wish we could hang out and be friends!

Hi Jamie. Interesting video. I have been single and abstinent for 31 years. I'm just waiting on God's timing for a wife, and already prayed about it. But yes, I agree with the part of being content, but also waiting patiently for God to work His plan of fulfilling that desire in our lives. When I told a close friend of mine my desire to have a wife, she asked me if I had asked God. She encouraged me to ask God as one would ask a Father. So I did, and I think I did hear confirmation. But now I'm just going about my business patiently waiting on God to work His will in that area of my life. I feel really joyful and happy about it, and content at the moment. I trust God and His timing. So I totally relate. The apostle Paul said that he had learned the secret of being content in all circumstances. He also said to not look for a spouse if we are single. And I am trying to obey these things in my life. But he never said we couldn't ask God for the gift of a spouse. Singleness and marriage are both gifts from God. Some people are called to be married. Others are called to be single. Some make themselves single for the Kingdom of God. Everyone has a different path God has called then to. A unique cross to carry.

When I tell people I don't really have the desire to get married or to have kids, they look at me like it's so wrong to be. They tell me things like "I'll hold that to you" and "I'll remind you of tat at your wedding". It's not wrong to not have a desire to get married. If it's God's plan then let his will be done but if it's not fine. But you need to accept that I don't see myself in that position, so stop speaking things into my life.

I cannot begin to tell you the "words of encouragement" that I have come across...Yes I believe that they all mean well...but I also believe that my desire for marriage totally OK!! Girl you said a while mouthful. lol. I know exactly what ya saying in this right here (in my best country voice lol) I'm 33 and been single basically all my life. There was this young lady I thought was the but life happens. So anywho she move on and I stayed waiting on her. It only now I'm trying move on and find my "Good thing" people are saying those exact words. smh. I am content with where I am but I do desire to Find my Wife and Start a family (maybe not right away with the family lol) but yeah. Thanks for sharing and speaking out on behalf of singles. I'm at a great place right now where I am content, yet still desiring, and I've often doubted whether or not I truly am content if I still have that expectancy/hope. You really helped open my eyes there, so thankyou!

"This is a word I use a lot..." we said 'intention' at exactly the same time. At least it shows you get your point across! That idea of intention helped me so much recently when a boy asked me out (first time this has ever happened to me) and the first word that came to me was 'intention', and as I knew there would he no intention, we had to work it out and realise that it couldn't happen. I'm only 16 and it's like you said in that last clip- I do desire marriage and to be a Mum and everything, but I am also quite content with where I am now! Super great video- thanks for helping so many people out in this journey of intentional relationships. I know that there would be some sticky situations right now had people not heard your message :)

hi Grace, i agree on what you said. i just turned 25years I have always prayed for my future husband but its funny how friends feel they are more concern about me being single than myself and i had a friend call me this week and told be to break my virginity! a lot of pressure i was so shocked but i thank God that with people like you i am reminded that i am not the only one you believes that it is okay to desire to have a great marriage and as i do so i should not lose focus of the kind of woman God has been training me to be. Being a single Christian college student is rough, esp. when all of your friends are getting engaged or have boyfriends and are constantly trying to put you together with random guys. But honestly I'm content being single at the moment, I hope I'll meet the right guy someday, but right now I'm focusing on strengthening my relationship with the Lord so I can be the kind of person my future husband would want to be with. Wow... I have committed these errors with my nieces. As a guy who has been married for 21 years I've apparently forgotten what it was like to be single, at least to some degree. #truth and preach. Being 28, I've heard these statements so many times since my early 20's. Just when I thought the struggle was real, The Lord allowed me to meet someone at a worship conference I played at who is in ministry, is single, and in his 40's. Seeing how God uses him in ministry inspired me to know I'm on the right track. I'm already in a relationship. Turns out to be the greatest relationship I have ever had. I love your videos and music so much, Jamie! Being single is something that has hit me hard recently, as I am twenty years old and have never been in a romantic relationship. I have yet to find a guy that is interested in me, and it has me doubting my worth and my appearance. I am always very friendly and welcoming toward others, and try to dress in a way that is both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing, but no guy has ever pursued me. This is my junior year at university (supposedly the best years of someone's life), but again, no interest from any guys. I feel like there must be something fundamentally wrong with me. I would greatly appreciate your advice and feedback, as this lack of interest has been pushing me toward some dark thoughts. I have suffered a lot in the past few years (depression, severe anxiety, anorexia, etc.), and being single (without any pursuers) is very hard to understand and cope with.
