I think that having a black ops, covert arm of Starfleet is par for the course for people in general. You will ALWAYS have people who love the Baker commission way of doing business, it's short sighted, though.

Great presentation. Although there is part of me that would like to have seen more of these sharper lines on standard Starfleet ships (although not to this degree) it does make the Section 31 ships distinctive. They have a shared design philosophy with the Federation but they are also their own animal, it's a good balance and stunning design. An entity would need a clandestine organisation to complement or perhaps counteract the philosophy of the Federation. But with independence, they would go ever further beyond their original charter.

I love this ship and section 31. I'd love to see an updated version of this ship, using tech from the era of Star Trek: Picard. If I remember correctly, Section 31 never actually disbanded though. There was a lot of their involvement in DS 9. And Bashir was a member also if I remember the series correctly.
@TriAngulumAudioStudios

Exactly, it was all just a rouse! But no Bashir was not a member of it, S31 tried, but he just used them to try and bring them down!

I forgot where I heard the full phrase but any sci-fi utopia that has flaws/blemishes in their perfect light but still better than the modern time it means they are something you can hope for or something that seems believable to happen. Except for the fact that sometimes people have their own opinions and it's part of their fun to speculate on other scenarios. If you aren't being mean or nasty about it there shouldn't be anything wrong with it. Besides the fact that it kinda contradicts his line that "everything should be taken with a grain of stardust" but don't question my narrative or you're out. Admitting to censorship is probably not a very good idea on this platform but it is his choice I suppose.
@TriAngulumAudioStudios
@TriAngulumAudioStudios 11 месяцев назад
Never ONCE did I say "but don't question my narrative or you're out," and trying to make it about censorship seems to be you just trying to make a cause to wave a flag at. I said Anti-Rant, not "your own opinions" or "Speculate on scenarios!" Im not sure what you don't understand about "Anti-Rant," as everyone else understood what I meant, but let me explain it to you so that maybe you'll get it. It's EXACTLY to prevent mean and nasty commentary, that's all! All too often I get those that do exactly that. IE Put someone down for a different opinion by making Racial, Sexist or down right disgusting comments. So in the future, you might want to listen to what is said, and not create your own narrative in your head!

As you know the directive is always to be more advanced than Starfleet so we can protect the Federation. So show your ideas.” Designer 1: “Well sir here’s my design. It’s Kind of covert scout design.” Foreman: “Hmm looks good, register it NCIA-93 and call it good.” Designer 2: “I present a Four Nacelled design with an arrowhead primary hull.” Foreman Custer: “I like it, but here’s a hull in the middle of the hull.” Designer: “There’s a reason behind it. It’s to prevent any objects from getting on the ship until scans are completed and it can be beamed aboard.” Custer: “Good thinking. The specs look promising. Okay I’ll stamp it approved, and Well done.” Designer: “Sir what do we call it?” Custer: “I’ll leave that up to your capable hands. I trust you, just don’t call it anything stupid.” The next day. Foreman Custer: “Hey Owens, did you come up with a name yet?” Owens: “Yes sir I did. (Hands over the final blueprints.” Custer: “Nimrod? What the hell? I told you not to name it anything stupid or ridiculous. You did just the opposite.” Owens: “No sir I didn’t. Nimrod was a skillful hunter in Book of Genesis.” Custer: “I’m aware of my Earth mythology. But Nimrod also means a foolish or Inept person. By naming it Nimrod, you’re saying that the crew that are operating it are inept fools.” Owens: “Well I wasn’t thinking about that at the time. But upon reflection it’ll set is apart from Starfleet and any other power. It’s not like Starfleet will launch a Constitution class called USS Nimrod.” Custer: “True. I guess it’ll depend on who commands this shop. Are they are skillful leader and Hunter, or are they an inept fool leading them down the path of death and destruction?” Owens: “Exactly.” Custer: “Damn it. Alright what the hell, I’ll approve as the Nimrod class. Nice work Mister Owens. By the way, what’s your first name?” Owens: “Nimrod.” Custer: “No really.” Owens: “My mom and dad named my Nimble Rodney Owens. Nimrod for short. Mom came up with Nimble, Dad thought of Rodney. Here we are. I wanted call myself Buck but they wouldn’t go for it.” Custer: “Well I’ll be damned. That’s gotta be the funniest thing ever. Keep up the good work Nimrod. Is it possible that section 31 was working alongside temporal agents? This class of ship looks and functions like a refit era over a TOS era, with performance entertaining near Excelsior advancements. My idea is linking the name Section 31 to 31st century when the temporal cold war was going on. Is it possible that section 31 had some 31st century knowledge? Their sole function of protecting the federation not only from current universe threats, but future threats as well? Hence, how section 31 was allowed secret technology and free reign as their directive is to guarantee that the federation exists into the 31st century. This would explain why the federation wanted section31 tech destroyed because not all their tech originated in the current century.
@pt29999
@pt29999 Год назад
Personally, I always thought Section 31 made sense in Star Trek. There are a lot of Bashir types in Starfleet that would see the Federation fall before they would allow their morals to take a hit. Sloan said it perfectly when he told Bashir that Section 31 exists to protect the Federation from people like him that would put their sense of right and wrong over the lives of Federation citizens.

Ships from the 25 century or 29 century wich are patrolling in the 23rd Century or even now at the 21 century, keeping an eye on everything that is happening at the earth to preserve the timeline. And if that is added could give a more pleausube reason as to why the section 31 had so advanced technology. But this is just an idea what do you guys think?

It looks interesting, but am I the only one who looks at the design of the Nimrod-class and thinks; "it looks like a Prometheus and Vengeance had a baby." Assuming the reason for the cutout in the Nimrod is canon, at least that's better than the strange cutout the Vengeance had that left the bridge essentially exposed within the center of the saucer, but the "arrowhead" and quad-nacelle design looks incredibly similar to the Prometheus (only if it went back to 2250)

Honestly the use of attack drones and fighters is more un-Star Trek than the mere existence of Section 31. Star Trek was originally evocative of the age of exploration. It was about “give me a tall ship and a star to sail her by.” Those “tall ships” were cruisers braving the frontier, not air craft carriers maintaining a geopolitical order. I get why some people object to Section 31, but it adds a deeply needed level of verisimilitude to the setting. It does not contradict Rodenberry’s vision of the future. It makes it more realistic. It doesn’t not invalidate the ideals of the Federation. It emphasizes why those ideals are so important.

Section 31 is full Canon without being spoken by name before DS9. Two examples..... TOS episode "The Enterprise Incident" TNG Episode "The Pegasus". Just because they aren't mentioned by name, the very nature of those two episodes whisper Section 31. Who else would order those activities. Okay, one, actually two more episodes..... "Chain of Command Part 1" & "Chain of Command Part 2".
@TriAngulumAudioStudios

Actually no... Just because something SEEMS like it could be Section 31, doesn't mean it secretly is! In the Enterprise Incident, Kirk is CLEAR that it was Starfleet... In Pegasus it is CLEAR it was Starfleet Intelligence, and same with Chain of Command... Section 31 doesn't operate in the light the way you're suggesting... They hide in the shadows and have NO connection to the missions THEY undertake! They certainly dont send a 60 year old Captain on mission pretending to be Starfleet! 🙄

The problem I have with Section 31 is that their tech is so drastically advanced compared to the rest of Starfleet. Its not just cutting edge compared to whats out in the fleet, its generations ahead. It makes it just feel so disconnected and alien instead of a branch of Starfleet that went rogue.

(I realize the mythological background of the name of that class, but they probably really shoulda been more aware of geeky slang before naming anything that in a Star Trek show. :) ) (From the sporadic episodes of that part of Disco I was able to pull in over antenna, I kinda had no idea what the Section 31 tech was supposed to have come from (I guessed maybe it all depended on that Control AI and none of it worked without it or something.) Cool looking ship, actually. (Was kinda hard to get a good look at on screen. :) )

I think the irony of naming it such, mixed with the actual meaning of the name, is absolutely perfect! Besides, what makes you think that particular slang word is still used in the 23rd Century?

@@TriAngulumAudioStudios I wouldn't necessarily think so, just maybe the writers should have expected audience snickers. :)

They really named it Nimrod 😂. Does nimrod have a different meaning in the Star Trek universe?

S31 named it the Nimrod Class because in the classical sense, and perhaps with a sense of irony, Nimrod means A Skillful Hunter...

Section 31 is canon because all goverments need an intel group no matter what they proclaim and they need people that can do the dirty work and protect those high ideals from outside enameies people to make the hard bloody choices that the rest of the federation couldnt make i know its sad but its a fact of life now and in the future

First, why did you like your own comment? Pretty shady trying to make it look like you have support when you don't. And Second, It makes absolute sense, which is why you're the only one saying anything like this out of countless comments! That says FAR more about you, than it does the ship! ;) Cya!

Not in Prime Universe but in Discovery Universe - canon means nothing with three Star Trek Universes - Prime, Discovery, and Kelvin.
@TriAngulumAudioStudios
@TriAngulumAudioStudios 11 месяцев назад
Sorry you are incorrect! There is NO such thing as the Discovery Universe... DSC takes place in the PRIME universe, as the only people who CAN make that call, the owners of Star Trek, have already told us that time and time again. You may not like it, but that's the facts. So you best make peace with it and you're also incorrect in saying Canon means nothing. It doesnt matter how many Universes there are, canon still exists and applies to each universe!
