21Kilotons Video Game Awards: Best Games of 2021 

Third times a charm. First version got a copyright strike, second version had factual errors, lets see if this one will work. Thank you for your patience, and huge thanks to the people who pointed out my mistakes. I made some mistakes about nationality, and given some of the parties involved either are, or might soon be, in a shooting war, I couldnt just let it slip by with a disclaimer or a note on the video description. Besides, if World War 3 does kick off on the border of Russia and Ukraine, I'll look like an idiot on RU-vid for the 14minutes it will take for the nukes to land. The situation is doubly ironic because the mistake is about Farm 51, and they literally made the video game "World War 3" ffs. I have re-edited the section about Chernobylite, and hopefully this is all now in good order.

If I can summarize the state of gaming in 2021 in one sentence: "Covid ate my homework!"

It blows me away how a small Australian company can make a better WWII battle simulator than one of the biggest video game companies on the planet.

OMG...I didn't even know about Medieval Dynasty until 21 just mentioned it in this video! Once again, Kilo delivers on his ongoing promise of steering us towards lesser known, great games that get blown off by the bought and paid for mainstream video gaming media. We delivered a video outline to our label that would’ve given gainful employment to a dozen dwarves. Our record company actually took exception of the dozen glamour models bouncing about on space hoppers, citing the last time I used this idea RU-vid took a day to ban it. Yet my label’s cool with a dozen dwarves dresses up as matadors in beautiful suits of light.Give credit where credit is due; my brother came up with the latter concept.

Thanks for the Chernobylite callout. It was and is an incredibly unique experience even if the game is a bit too forgiving on harder difficulties. The music, the atmosphere, characters, story, and overall tone was captivating.

I got Valheim because of Kiloton’s recommendation .. I have been enjoying it immensely. I find myself thinking about it quite often … it is addictive … I haven’t played anything else since starting it .. I find that even though I get thrashed, lose my gear, rage quit … I’m back in 10 minutes after a stiff drink, for another whack.

Great vid man. I love your style and humor. Your experience with Valheim has been identical to mine with No Man's Sky. I haven't finished a single questline all the way, theres too much to f-ck around with. I jump from solar system to solar system, seeking resources and building massive mining operations, farms or space ports.... never to visit them again. Literally 100s of hours spent building Music Festival venues and racing tracks and basejumping platforms of which I really hope other players stumble upon... cus I won't likely use them. I have a discord thats a catalog of screenshots of all the procedurally generated starships I have ever seen that "i like"... organized by class, hull type and where I found it. Lol I am usually not the sort to get into the Minecraft or Elite Dangerous or Rust type games..... but smush em all together and its awesome. I have almost never loved a game so much for so long without getting sick of it. Maybe Red Dead Redemption 2.... thats a gaming masterpiece that blows my mind every time I play it. And I was really into Metroid Prime on Gamecube. Another genre-changing masterpiece.

When you said "68", my mind went straight to Renaldo Rey's stand-up comedy. I saw him first on "Dirty, Dirty Jokes" hosted by Redd Foxx. If you haven't seen that genius comedy show yet, go google that shit. It's a modern masterpiece, way better than the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo was crap. He never once painted a hot chick in fishnets, a garter belt and stiletto heels.

Hmm…Microsoft buys Activision Blizzard. Christmas comes early for 21Kiloton. Looking forward to that video.

Riftbreaker was the only game that came out in 2021 that I really liked and I didn't really know much about it before I played it. 2021 was the worst year so far but it allowed me to get through my backlog atleast. Hopefully 2022 will be better because I'm running out of older games to play.

@21Kiloton forgot completly about medieval dynasty thx for remainding me about it, defenetly gone check it out this weekend :) on that note i'm going to ask you if you ever got the time to check out battlefleet gothic armada? both 1 and 2 are games that i think you will greatly enjoy, i know i reminded you about this before but i am asking again just in case you forgot about it, i would rather you start playing it and not likeing it than missing it (i think that the review on mandalore gaming about the game would be the best option to see if you would like it or not, i found that you 2 are one of the best and honest reviewers) also on that note i would also like to thank you for the battlestar galactica review i first started watching the tv show before playing the game because i wanted to have some proper background on the ships and posible characters, to know and understand what i was going to look at in the game, and i fucking love it still have about half of the show to finish but i'm hooked, filled with a lot of strong and interesting female characters, but they are all beautiful, so i guess they do not count in the current year :\

Valheim, Super Seducer 3 😏, Medieval Dynasty, New World... God _damn_ did I miss out on some potentially life-changing games.

I hope 2022 would have a video gaming crash bigger than 1983 with no one being able to stop it nor save the industry

I'd like to mention Night of the Dead from Jackto studios. It's a survival/tower defense type game with a fixed large map. It has good survival elements, base building and combat. It has little to no story to it (like Valheim) but the experience is so customizeable (you can just set the game to 'peaceful' for just the survival experience and basebuilding or crank it up to 2700% difficulty) and it's fun with friends to just tear into hordes of zombies. It has lack of weapons at the moment since it's in early access but it is fun for what it is right now and the devs have been working on loads of new content since the last year.

2021 is proof that the "children" in game development, no matter how old they are need a boss hanging over there shoulder telling them its shit and to do it better, OR the boss needs all the developers together to tell them that their idea or direction is shit and needs to be rewritten.

Days gone is the only game I've ever completed and then completed everything else left to do.. I still remember the first time I encountered 'the mill'...truly terrifying for a game lol

I want to love Medieval Dynasty, but it's basically an early access game claiming to be fully released. It feels like you can quickly do everything there is to do and I grew bored. The dev's are still working on adding content (hence why I call it early access) so hopefully it will be better fleshed out in the near future.

Whatever he did 3 decades ago, I still enjoyed the Cosby show back in the day. Are you going to review God of War PC version, and Elden Ring next month?

Spot on about Days Gone, it's up there with my all time faves.

I agree that Deep Rock Galactic is a very enjoyable game with friends. Gets kind of old after a while (same'ol bugs to shoot, etc), but the different classes, perks, weapon upgrades, grinding, running around the base, and of course drinking beer while someone does a gravity re-calibration is pretty amusing. Some of the new weapons fell flat for me. Some of the environments are breathtaking. Deep drives are challenging and rewarding if you complete all 3 levels. I really respect the devs on this one for making a solid multi-player game that is just a blast to play.

I'm not buying Death Loop, COD, Far Cry 6, etc. because I refuse to give money to my enemy. And if the game is semi-good, then I'll buy it used to make sure the publisher gets $0 from me. I'll start buying when they've fired all the SJW shits from their companies and stop showing signs of political agendas in their video games. Oh, and I bought Valheim because of your review and LOVE THAT GAME!! So thank you!
