THAT is one great value. I've never even heard of 22 TCM, I want to thank you for introducing me to that caliber and this weapon. Keep up the good work sir!

I just saw your response to this comment so my reply to your previous comment is redundant. No need to apologize for asking a question, that's how we all learned something new. You're exactly the kind of people the firearms community needs (also for all I know, you know twice as much about firearms as me), someone who doesn't jump to conclusions and can think for themselves.

I'm impressed by all the positive comments on this caliber/gun combo, which is diametrically opposed to the comments usually found on Fiveseven 5.7x28 videos! I'm intrigued by the .22 TCM and will probably end up getting one to play with. I already own two Fivensevens and have amassed an extensive database of hand load data for that cartridge, and I really like it, and respect what it's capable of. The TCM and 5.7 are very similar in terms of ballistic performance with the TCM having the edge in power, but unable to utilize longer, spitzer bullets. The 5.7 is a much lighter, more compact cartridge, and chambers into a "ultralight," yet full-size dedicated platform. In making the TCM to fit within the 1911, Armscor scored some big points, but along with that comes a platform much heaver than it needs to be. I'm thinking the right answer would be an alloy or polymer frame, but when the .22 TCM is shoehorned into a small-frame Glock as the .22R TCM, it really shows the lack of refinement available in a cartridge designed to fit within a tiny grip rather than design the round first, then the pistol. But....with all that said, the TCM brings plenty to the table worth "liking" and is undoubtedly as good a manstopper as the 5.7x28 has been shown to be.

I watched because I just thought it was another peashooter. After seeing that steel penetration I think I really want this pistol now! It holds a bunch too. With the swap out barrel I think it makes it a real alternative to say a polymer five seven.

As an amateur competitor, I own 1 high-capacity pistol which was made as a competition gun. Even most assault rifles are sold as "sporting rifles" which qualifies the magazine size more than anything. Many hunters use semi-automatic sport rifles for hunting. Many hunters use semi-automatic hunting style rifles. The funny thing is that many sport rifles have smaller bullets and are less deadly than hunting rifles while the ability to put out rounds accurately is up to the shooter.

Yes, a Whyte Laydie is a particular type of banjo that dates back to the 1800s. They are an open-back (non-resonator) design, and have a different internal configuration and construction than other banjos of the time. Many players, myself included, love the sound of the Whyte Laydie design. The name "Whyte Laydie" derived from the fact that the originals were made from White Holly wood. Bart Reiter in Michigan makes wonderful modern versions of these, and other, Old-Time banjos. Boge

Point taken. I only mention that GD JSP because it doesn't have precuts either, and it expands with petals quite nicely. I would have figured at 2000 fps we would have seen more fragmentation from the bullet then a mild expansion. The 40gr JSP is a fairly short bullet OAL, and no one has found out if that's needed to keep it's case capacity up for max vel. I definately do like the gun's price point :)
@royphelps8084

The 22tcm parent case was a 223 Remington cut down. I believe the 40 gr bullet looks exactly like a Winchester 22 magnum 40gr bullet. In my misspent youth, I put a lot of wild game on the table with my 94,22m Winchester 22magnum.

I am very interested in this round. It is very different. I am looking forward to when these pistols are easier to get. Also, Armscor is supporting this round well. The price is about average for most self defense rounds on the market. Also, they have a program where they will reload your brass for you at a much lower cost. Conversion to 9mm is a nice touch too making this pistol more versatile.

Hi Jeff, Thanks for the great video on this pistol. Also please thank Boge for the great music. Unfortunately I live in California and since it has a decent capacity I can't legally own it here. Calguns and the NRA have been fighting an uphill battle out here to preserve our gun rights but as these disasters happen it gives the enemies of freedom more ammunition to use against us. It isnt looking good right now but in 1776 it looked a lot worse. Anyway, thanks again and keep up the good work.

The round is .22 in caliber but it is designed in the same way as the 5.7, meaning a new penetration power. If the ammo were made more widely, more companies may adopt it and we would have a civilian Five-Seven product line.

@@royphelps8084 -- I ended up finding a RIA with the .22TCM/9x19 barrels. I bought a .38 SUPER barrel for it, increased the recoil spring, and make my brass from .223 or .300AAC brass that has split. I think this used to be called the .38 SuperCooper or maybe 9mm SuperCooper. It's a 9x23 on steroids.

@@royphelps8084 -- From a reloading standpoint, I prefer straight-walled cases -- they seem to last longer without the bottleneck. I have a Sig P229 in .357SIG and am set up to reload for it, but I seem to crush the neck too often, so given the choice between a bottleneck cartridge and a straight-walled cartridge, I'll usually go with the straight-walled one.

Actually many fully automatic weapons you see on videos are rented from ranges and prop houses that have the class III paperwork. A fully automatic weapon would be prohibitively expensive for most people but some ranges have them and rent them out per hour. They are very rare and most "assault" weapons sold in America are semi-auto only. RU-vid is not reality.

Very nice firearm, but I always stay away from obscure caliber's for two reasons: availability and price... But since it comes with a 9mm conversion, it isn't a bad choice for a $650 1911.
@rdr99tube
@rdr99tube 11 лет назад
Well... it's a 40grn softpoint not a hollowpoint so there is only so much there to expand. The jacket has no "precuts" or skives to allow for the star like look that most pistol hollowpoints show in media. Still... depending on how good you are at reloading, there are standard 22 rifle varmint bullets that might be useful, as it is a standard diameter. Don't know if you could seat a 55grn deep enough, but it's a possibility, though it would go slower of course.

Looking at your recovered results, that SP expanded, but did so horribly. Reminds me of the 110gr JSP Privi 30 carbine. Very minimal expansion. They should load a gold dot bullet in this round. Only issue is no one has made any comments on what bullet sizes and weights can be loaded in this caliber.

As an aside, though from the looks of it it certainly is not a necked down 9mm, it might be a necked down 9X23 or even 38 SuperComp case (you know, 38 Super with no "semi-rim"). I would need to take some measurements, but the length looks about right.

Interesting round. LOTS of muzzle blast, which you might like, or not. Muzzle energy is about like a .22 WMR - 40 gr @2000 fps. That's about 350 ft-lbs., or about what 9 mm target loads generate, but is less than hot 9 mm +P rounds. For defense, I'll take a 9mm for sure over this. They have better penetration and better expansion. Penetrating steel plate isn't important for that, but I wonder what something like Hornady's Critical Duty +P 135 gr. would do, or a hot Cor Bon load..

Don't know about that. My friend has ball ammo as did I. It only put a 2" dent in it. But my .357mag, .44mag and .22mag and .22 lr go through it. Try it yourself to see. I was shocked. Maybe it was a bit thicker than 1/8" but I don't know how thick they do make frying pans. Same with a sheet of 1/16" stainless steel. 9mm & .45 made dents. But the .44mag, .357, .22mag go through it at 25 meters.

Actually, I think they make the ammo over here. I would think that would be cheaper than shipping from the Phillipines anyway. I can't remember which State but Arizona comes to mind... I could be wrong. Regardless, I'm pretty sure you could form the cases from several other types of readily available cases, perhaps including cut down 223. Dies would not be cheap however.

I am concerned about over penetration with the tcm. It might be a bad choice where collateral damage is likely. For field use, I would love to see someone develop a carbine for the 22 tcm, or better yet, a pistol that could convert to a carbine in a quality fashion.

The creators of this cartridge say it is a sized down 223 casing because they had a bunch of faulty 223 casing and were debating on scraping for money or to create something out of it and thus the tcm was born

Yes, I heard Martin Tuason tell that story on Guntalk last Sunday. They must have used .223 for development purposes and then refined for propriety cartridge cases.
