Today we continue with the Hornady 90g ELD-X. This time I am using the tried and true H4350. Charges are 42.2g. 42.6g, 43.0g, 43.4g at a CBTO of 2.165" Link to first video using Shooters World 4350. • 243 Win 90g ELD-X SW4350
Good day, thanks for sharing, nice to see you back! I tried few bullets and powder in my 243’s, and all I can say is : the best load for me is with the IMR4350, 43.0 with a 95 VLD. I had some luck too with some 75gr and IMR4320. I can check in my book if you want more info.
Good video. I have had good results with RL19 and 22. For the 95gr Nosler Nallistic tip IMR7828 was my best. Like those 12fv's. I have 4 of them amongst the other Savages I have. Thanks for the video.
Hi, I'm Richard from New Zealand. I was mainly a muzzle loader hunter, but last year I bought a Tikka T1x in .243 and love it. I also started reloading my own rounds and ended up with something very similar to you. Hornady ELD-X 90Grn bullets over 42 grns of H4350. Hodgdon is now hard to get here, but I have found out that ADI actually make the H4350 and bulk ship it to the USA. ADI-AR2009 is the same as Hodgdon H4350. My groups are very similar to your first group. I would love to know the velocity, but I don't know anyone who has a chronograph to find out. Anyway, great video, I'll keep a look out for more 🙂.
The .243 is a dandy cartridge. I use imr 4451 for Horn 87 bthp and 95 smk. 7 tenths grain separate the 2 loads. I use the 95s for factory class groundhog matches. 87s for the groundhog hunts. Lapue brass and 210m primers. Keep'm flying
With H4350 being hard to get now in New Zealand I have changed to ADI 2209 which I have be told id the same powder as the H4350! ADI in Australia make it and bulk ship it to the USA and Hodgdon re-pack it. I have loaded up the last of my H4350 and have reduced the load to 41grn Shooting out of a stainless steel Tikka T3X, with fully foating barrel and a 2 stage Timney trigger. Vortex 6-24x50 Diamondback scope on Tally Tikka rings. At the moment I'm shooting off a rifle mounted BiPod and getting a 0.48" 5shot group. With an average of 2955fps and a spread of 9fps I think with your load weight getting higher your groups were getting larger, try reducing your grn weight. I'd be interested to see your results. Great job though 🙂 THANX
I can't remember from your older videos of the 243 but did you try 95gr.sst an 95gr sierra bthp or tip sierra 95gr. I've shot all 3 with real good results imr 4064 powder
@243Outdoors i dont know if your still loading this bullet but i went with a coal of 2.650 with a cbto of 2.143 and 43gr of h4350 with a .26 moa @100 winchester brass and old winchester large rifle standard mag primers shooting out of a browning xbolt hunter
You’re very close to my setup. I have a Savage 12 FCV in .243, with a 26” semi bull bbl. I’m shooting Hornady 87gr V-Max, in Hornady brass, trimmed to 2.035, with a C.O.L of 2.704 cartridge base to tip, no ogive tool in my arsenal 😢. Chamber is 2.705 to lands, I’m 1 thousandth off lands. Tight, but I measure every round ensuring absolute consistency. I’m using IMR 4350 @ 39.8grs , very close to your powder H4350 and 42+ grs. Its not a “hot” load but my 4 round group was EXACTLY the same as yours, .472 - I measure outside to outside, with target paper pushed back into place carefully. I can see the bullet residue mark and I measure to that. In my case the holes were slightly “fuzzy“ and deceptive. UNLESS, you have a solid non perforated backing ( no previous bullet holes) and the target in contact with the backing ( like glued on cardboard) you wont get consistent clean holes. Anyhow my actual first round ( was shooting 5 round groups) was a flyer. It was far enough off target that i knew something was amiss. So I stopped my shot string, looked at my Nikon Coyote Special scope, with vertical donuts not crosshairs.( ranging circles, set for coyotes from brisket/chest, to top of back/ a quick range tool that works in “minute of coyote” ) Anyhow I saw my side adjustable parallax was at infinity, instead of 100yds which I was shooting at. I made the correction and then got my “4” round grouping. I wish I could post my pictures, RU-vid doesn’t have that feature, unless I’m missing something. Lastly if I were you, go down a tad in grains to possibly lose a few more thousands off your group. Mines at it best where its at. Yours quite possibly the same. Whats your barrel length?
I’ve never used the IMR4350. It’s similar but not the same. So it can’t be used as an exact substitute. However it’s in the correct burn range and will work fine with it’s own load.
I just compared the two in my tikka the h 4350 shot better groups ended up liking 39 gr behind 103 eld sort of a moderate load that held half moa at 100 . 1-8 gun though .
