Excellent video! Thank you! I made this chair today. It is solid, and with only two angles it’s a breeze to cut. One look at the cut list and it’s easy to see the originator of this did some serious planning. There is very little waste especially if building two chairs. However, as others have said, the size is for a smaller person. I don’t know what size smaller person it’s for, I’m 5’11”, 185, 32” inseam... one would say normal build. The armrests are too low and not long enough. The seat comes only halfway to the end of my thighs. Clearly, economy was important in the design and the design excels in that matter. Suggestions... the chair sits a bit too upright so change the base angles. Lengthen the legs another 2” or so to allow for better arm rest height. Instead of narrow 2x4 arm rests, opt for 1x6’s or 5/4x6’s and cut them per Rogue Engineer Adirondack chair video. Lengthen the 20” pieces to accommodate at least one more slat, two if using 2x4’s, and reverse the front 15° angle. Consider using 5/4x6’s for the seat and back slats. I wanted this chair to be a campfire chair that is comfortable to sit back by the fire as well as sit forward to tend the fire. As built, it is neither. The suggestions I made will give you a much nicer chair. Regarding the base angles, I’d make the other changes first then adjust the base angles. You don’t want an adirondack nor do you want fully upright. You might find using 5/4’s or even 1x6’s give you the feel you want. Yes, these changes will increase the materials list, but the end product will be a much more comfortable and still very robust chair. The beauty of projects like this is they can be used as is or give you ideas how to make them better for you. Again, great job and thanks for publishing this.

Dang Shane, I’m soooooooo jealous of all the space you have!!!!! Very nice build Shane. It’s a good looking and sturdy chair. I’ve see the video on Jerry Bates page and yours is very nice too. I’m on the next to the final stage on my sisters wine rack, the back slats and the 2 small strips to secure the back and then poly. I changed it up some and used some cedar on the back. She gave me 6 big 4’ pieces of cedar and it looked like it had been under water or something it had all kinds of stuff on them. I cut them down into smaller slats for the back. Once I get the back done I will just use poly on it I think to really show off that cedar through to the back. That is a hard son-of-a-gun to put together by yourself! I didn’t think I would be able to do it but I made.

Nice chair, but you seem like a tall guy like me and when you sat down your elbow didn't touch the arm rests. How can I make it tall enough for my arms to fit completely on it.
@ShanesHobbyShop
@ShanesHobbyShop 5 лет назад
Thanks for watching. Yes the chair is kinda short for me. I have a problem with most armrest on all the chairs out there. I normally dont worry about arm rest for my chairs, since they are no good for me. Instead I work on making the chair tall enough for me. One of my video's I took another one of Jay Bated design (2x4 bench) made it a bit taller and ofcourse skinner and turned it into my shop chair. It has no arm rest on it, but it works perfect for me. you can watch that video here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O0A59lLNQo4.html

Great video Shane! Just one question, I'd like to build this exact chair, do you have a list of the lengths of the pieces of wood needed and the angles they are to be cut at?

Great Idea, Just keep in mind the center of the seating might bow a bit over time, so you might want to brace the center of the seat
