3" Exhaust Install - 1HZ 105 Landcruiser [Turbo Conversion Part 2]

This is how I installed a 3" stainless PPD exhaust kit on my 105 series. I adapted the kit to match the back of a J3 JB Turbo (CT26 shape turbo) and fitted the exhaust to the vehicle! The exhaust kit can be found at the link below, and the dump pipe or an adapter can be sourced from several 4WD/exhaust suppliers or PPD themselves!

In this short series, I will be converting my 1HZ to a turbocharged engine, installing a 3 inch exhaust, wiring in gauges to monitor the turbo's performance and comparing the performance of the engine to before I converted it.

Hi, I would be interested to know the make of the exhaust please. I have a 2005, 105 series and am currently installing a 1HD-FT 24 valve engine, however it will have a Safari Turbo Kit replacing the factory turbo... This means the three bolt flange on the exhaust manifold

Will, I'm about to turbo my Cruiser too with a Ct26 turbo also. Where did you get the CT26 dump that you modified to suit the DTS exhaust? Thanks

I think I linked them both in the description. But they’re both PPD kits. I accidentally bought a 100 series 1HDT exhaust first and ended up using the dump off that when I put the correct exhaust in. Sadly I haven’t been able to find a dump piece like that for under $300 anywhere

Hey Will, so I’ve got the 1hz engine stock in 78 series troop carrier. I’ve grabbed the Jb turbo kit & a 3 inch stainless exhaust system from ppd for 1hz turbo. In you opinion will I run into same fitnebt issues you had to the turbo? Much appreciate your help mate Brad

Hey mate so that depends on what flange the dump pipe has at the turbo end. For the 105 series exhaust from PPD, it was a 3-stud flange, you need the CT26 shape flange. If you’re handy on a tig or even a mig welder and have a bit of patience, you’ll be able to buy the right stainless dump and weld it in like I did. Otherwise hopefully it’s got the right flange on it!

Hi Will another great video. Quick question for you.I am in the same predicament as you. I have a 105 1HZ with a gturbo the dump pipe flange is a 4 stud patern. HPP sell a kit with a 3 stud pattern for the 1HZ. They also sell a 1HD kit with a 4 stud pattern, would this be the best option for me. Do you happen to know if this kit fits a 1hz. Rather the getting the 1hz kit and having to do what you went through of modifying the dump pipe. Thanks Keepnthe videos comming..

I actually tried a 1HDFTE exhaust kit first that was made to suit a 100 series. Unfortunately this does NOT fit a 105 1HZ. I wish I could tell you what kit does

i have 2 inch and half system running straight through on my 75 1hz turbo sounds like a old mack truck power torquing throughout the gears....

Hi mate. I have a 1996 1HZ Landcrusier Ute with 270,000kms on it. Like you said in the previous video. The engine is very sluggish. Do you have any idea what sort of turbo I should get. That is if I should get one at all? Thanks mate.

The JB turbo I used is fantastic, so much power increase! Otherwise there’s heaps of awesome brands out there. Comes down to what you’re willing to spend. Some other great ones to look into would be G turbo, garret, and Kinugawa

Bit hard to say. Not really. I think my fuel economy stayed almost exactly the same before and after the turbo install and tune. Since then big tyres, roof rack, lift and all have taken it up to about 17L/100 😂. I’ve given up caring about it really. Smiles per gallon not miles per gallon! :)

What brand exhaust is it? Would you get a better note with a hot dog near the end?

PPD 3” exhaust and it does have a hotdog. I really love the note of this. If you’re on Insta please go have a suss! I also showcase the sound of it in later videos- particularly the video where I get it tuned. Admittedly this video doesn’t showcase the sound the best

You’ll need an adapter to go from a 3 stud flange to a CT26 flange

I always had the stock exhaust but I think 2.5” is pretty classy with NA. Sometimes without that turbo sound, 3” can just sound kind of empty and hollow. Each to their own though- I have heard some good 3” exhausts on NA 1HZ’s too

@@WillsLandcruiser thanks for the reply mate I just bought a 80 series and would like a better note to it. It already has the a 2.5" exhaust manifold back but still doesn't sound as good as other 80s or my previous 4.2l gq. If I'm just chasing a better note do you think cutting the muffler out and replacing it with a straight pipe or even smaller stream line muffler as it does hang down a bit

@@jackg5999 Hotdogs are the go. I’m not personally a fan of the straight pipe sound even on a turbo 1hz. Definitely lose the muffler if you want a good note and I’d swap it for a hotdog. The note depends on the thickness and material of your exhaust a lot but the muffler will definitely drown out its voice

@@jackg5999 I know your comments old but I just wanna say you probably won't get anything near your old GQs sound with a 1hz non turbo. A turbo 1hz then you're looking at some good potential to get the TD42 sound but if you truly want the sound of a truck better than a TD42T or a 1HDT then you want either a 2H Turbo or a 12HT those engines sound like an absolutely weapon. Its probably what I plan on putting into my 1HZ 75 few years down the track
