Could you guys imagine having this kind of personal pre fight insight from Ol' Chael for his entire Career? That wouldve been awesome, but im grateful for having it now!! I appreciate you Mr. Sonnen.
If there was only one podcast I could listen to for the rest of my days it would be Chael's. It's quite shocking that his subs aren't a lot higher. Very intelligent, witty, and entertaining. For a one-man show, he covers so much. Solid commentator.
That was cool Chael. Don't know if you even read the comments but I'm 6ft.1 and a half. And for really no reason (I don't think) -- I just started (for last eleven yrs. I think) drinking a gallon of distilled water with a whole lemon juiced in it and even left the rind in it. Maybe three years into that I noticed I would run short of my water or not drink as many big drinks that I (and my body) grew accustomed to. Now I drink either two gallons of distilled water with the big ole' lemons and the difference in everything is incredible. Others that know me have even mentioned it. I just turned 53 last week and folks truly think I am lying to them when I say my age. Love my water! And my weights ALWAYS is in between 209- 218. Always. Weird. But it works for me. Hope you read this ..... and I am not a fighter or amateur but would throw down in a heartbeat if felt physically threatened. Former badass....but not like I used to be. I don't think. Got a very long fuse. OK I am done....your H2O story made me have to post. Ha!
You're a god damn legend. You're our era's joe Montana (i recognize the different sport, just comparing the transition) still in the sport you love. Commentator. Pod caster. We don't deserve chael!
You fuckin got this Chael , you know your body and you been doing this a long time . Stay disciplined keep that water intake up the reward will be sweet
Mr. Sonnen, I am a big fan of yours, and your fighting career, but I must say I'm an even bigger fan of all your videos because they provide great insight and I watch all your videos about the fight game. I am 32 and a medically retired vet. I usually walk around at 175-180. I had to have an operation in the beginning of 2018 and I had to be catheterized for 18 weeks and during this time I gained a lot of weight to the point where I was 244, when I was cleared to start going back to the gym I was intermittent fasting and I got back down to my goal weight, the problem and question I have for you is I had to have surgery again but it wasn't as bad as the first one and I couldn't work out for 6 weeks- but I was very smart with my diet and I actually lost weight I'm currently 165b and id like to get back to a lean 180=the thing is I feel as strong as I was when I was 180 but I cant seem to keep the weight on, I'm sorry about the long typing but I was wondering if there was any advice you could put out there that myself and others who may be experiencing the same problem. Thank you
the only way I can manage to get my measly 2-3 liters a day is by filling up the bottles I want to drink and hauling them around with me until the water is gone.
@@JungleScene I am finding it easier now to just have a gallon of water in the house and through out the day chugging it instead of drinking it cup by cup
Can you detail your water loading procedure? Ive only done 1 week starting high and taper as the week goes on. So you start with a month of 1 gal and increase to 2 start of fight week, then 3 day before weigh in? So you’re 110% hydrated coming into weigh in day? Im confused uncle chael please shed some light on this. 🙏
Hey Chael, do fighters ever use a complete fast (as in, not eating anything) in the days leading up to a fight? I ask because you're restricting your calories and there are claims that fasting will preserve strength and reduce fat better than simply eating less. It just seems like something that would make sense for people to do. Thanks for your answer if you do answer this.
I never understood water loading. I just don't understand the point of loading your body with water and then trying to cut it out by sweating if your body is already filled full of water and toxins and stuff that you need to get out, why add more? I never understood that at all, please someone explain...?
I drink more than a gallon almost every day..between running and working outside in the sun I don't have a choice.. But I've never actually tried doing two, maybe I'll see how close I can get tomorrow!
That is interesting to me yes sir. The amount of discipline is great. Are you water logging to make you feel fuller while you calorie restrict? And then just sweating off the weight? Whats the benefit im wondering, anybody?
How about coconut water? It's like H2O ×5 for benefits. You will only need half as much as regular water (maybe 2/3) plus it's a natural diarrhetic. The taste is tough to swallow.
I thought you were going in lighter against Machida , I've watched him because this fights coming up you will be taking him down early I would guess .Striking at range is his thing will be interesting clash of styles , come on Chael .
When I was on probation I was drinking a 16oz bottle of water every 15 minutes I was awake for two years so I could just piss dilute , I had near constant diarrhea and terrible headaches. I have to force myself to drink water now , I hate water.
I drink approx. 1.5 gallons a day without really trying. Is that weird? I thought that was about normal. I'm a bit of a thicker boi with a higher BMI, so does that affect it?? This doesn't really seem that crazy to me. I fill up my favorite 1.5 L water bottle up at least 3-4 times a day, easily. I have MS, so that could possibly affect how thirsty I get. You commonly get overheated easily with MS, also, so I'm constantly pounding water so I'm not dying from the heat here in sunny southern California. Either way, hope Chael shreds those pounds and kicks Machida's ass.
Years ago, there was a California radio show that had a contest called "Hold your wee for a Wii". They had contestants drinking water, back to back, back to back. A nurse called into the show and warned them of the possibility of hyponatremia from excess water intake in short periods of time. They ignored it and a mother attempting to win the gaming system for her kids died.
This might sound like a sarcastic question or a joke I am trying to make out of the process BUT... looking at trying to drink A LOT of water per day and the reps and sets of water jug/mug hand to mouth one has to do... IF you were to have a cup of coffee or tea would you measure that cup or however many cups of coffee/tea you would have per day as part of the 1-2-3 gallons of water a day. Basically do you count cups of coffee/tea (bcos they have no calories) as part of you water (liquid) count.
Typically I want to be supportive, but Machida has quite a punch, he uses a titanium rod as a makiwara, and I know that you were reeling after your fight with Fedor. Have you tried Macadamia nut oil (as a MUFA) to try and cut extra weight? Best of luck Chael, replace your electrolytes!
