Hi! Over the past few years I have tried a lot of mousepads, from the most popular to the extremely obscure. This video gives me the chance to talk about why I think my preferences don't always line up with what's popular, as well as shining a light on some lesser known mousepads that I really enjoyed using.
0:00 - Intro
0:29 - LGG Venus
2:20 - Locus.gg
3:56 - Cerapad
5:30 - Spyre Loque
7:20 - Artisan Hien
8:14 - Artisan Hayate Kou
10:13 - Outro
Peripherals/Settings
Mouse: HTX 4k
Mousepad: Artisan Zero Soft/Spyre Rosana
Keyboard: Wooting 60HE Modded
Headset: AKG 702
Microphone: AT2020
Sensitivity: About 30cm but I change often
Resolution: 1920x1080 in everything but cs, 1280x960 for cs

The friction sheet I refer to a few times throughout the vid can be found here if your interested, docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ix0RN4WDgRIn9uSUMy2smG_vWR3FTnZHgNpumChfHM0/edit?usp=sharing I'll be making a video about it soon but in the meantime feel free to ask any questions about it here if they haven't already been answered on the sheet itself on the data tab Also this video took me so long to make that some stuff about the spyre loque has changed since I recorded the voiceover, the main two things are that there is no longer an option for non stitched edges for it and that international shipping is much more expensive than before, so it might be better to wait for it to stock at resellers depending on where you live. I still think its a really good option for aussies and EU people as well if maxgaming end up stocking it.

Looks like the loque and the 3 new spyre pads are preorderable on Maxgaming for 34,99€ 👍

I just wanted to comment on the puretrak talent, on the spreadsheet it looks decently controlled, but from my experience it is one of the faster pads I've used. It felt a good deal faster than the Venus for example. I was able to feel this on multiple mice skates as well. Thanks for this information and your videos.
@ViscoseOCE
@ViscoseOCE Год назад
@@danlesak00 yeah it turns out that there was an issue with my copy haha, the weave was flipped so that the vertical axis was horizontal. ive never had a qc issue like that on a pad before, it was rly strange. Thats why i removed the pad from the main tab of the sheet, but i kept the result just in case i need it later
@danlesak00

@@ViscoseOCE That makes complete sense, i had a base qc issue on mine, but they sent me another one out. I recently ordered the p51 and there is qc issues with it as well, random stains never happened before on other pads. Ik they changed ownership recently but qc issues are the worst.

When buying from artisan, the shipping price doesn’t change when getting one or two pads where I live, and the otsu has been on my list to try for a while. I’ve got a “hien clone” and as such I’ve wanted to try out something new, the kou will most definitely be the one for me to try out because my vertical aiming has always been rather limited, while I also love having a controlled surface. You put it on my radar

As someone who went thru a similar buying spree to you last year, it's really interesting to see that we ended up sharing similar opinions. The hien is a great starting point but is really disappointing to go back to after trying the rest of artisan's lineup.

I also fell into the trap of buying way too many mousepads, so I appreciate Viscose making videos like these to discourage other people from making the same mistake. 😂 I always ended up always going back to the SkyPad, regardless of how great other pads felt. This is probably just due to the preference factor Viscose mentions at the end. Great video as always, Viscose! 😊

The Otsu is honestly such an unique pad that I want to recommend it to anyone, but I am in a mousepad dilemma myself when it comes down to choosing what to stick to. On one hand, I love speed. The Raiden has been a great speed pad for me. The Skypad would've been great if it wasn't for me being forced to wear a sleeve and for dust and hair to cause scratchiness. I recently got the Fnatic Jet, and it has basically been nurturing that "Skypad itch" without the scratchiness, sound and skin-sticking. The speed on the Jet is amazing and the glide is by far the smoothest of any mousepad I have ever owned. It feels effortless. And that effortlessness makes it super fun and enjoyable to use. But on the other hand, I loved the feel that the Otsu provided. It seemed to give me that perfect balance of speed and stopping power that I was looking for at first, and the texture of the pad also feels quite unique which just makes digging my fingers into it feel satisfying, while also giving me so much more grip when necessary. The only minor issue that I got with my Otsu, and this is likely me just being slightly OCD about something or heavily nitpicking something, is that the static friction isn't as effortless as with the Raiden, let alone the Jet. I have been chasing a "mousepad with a lot of speed, but still with some control"-dragon for a while now, but every "low static, high dynamic"-pad never really felt right to me. Meanwhile, the Otsu felt very locked in while still being speedy, and that's partially also because of its slightly higher static friction as you mentioned in the video. That locked-in feeling together with its speed is something that no other pad has replicated for me yet. So my dilemma is - Stick to the speed-pad euphoria of low static and dynamic friction heaven and learn how to "git gud" with it, or play on the Otsu, which I believe is my best performing pad, and learn how to be less OCD with the minor amount of static friction increase, because it is the only pad by far that genuinly seems to tick the boxes of what I originally was looking for. In the end, it is all personal preference, but if you or anyone else would like to throw their 2 cents in, then feel free to do so.

The worst thing about the Venus, is the fact that the pad slows down tremendously when cleaning it, even after it has fully dried up. The Venus pro also has tracking issues with some nice, although that might be a specific batch of Venus pros.

I used to import Artisan pads when they were sold out everywhere and selling them locally so I tried them one by one. At the end I kept one otsu for myself but one day a guy wrote me a message if I have an otsu on stock and I said I only have mine. He wanted to buy it and I sold it to him. That was the worst mistake of my life. Since then, I stopped buying them because the businesses stocked up locally. Since then I kept trying countless other mousepads to find something better, recently the Xraypads thor. Every time I get excited to get something new and at the end I always think about the otsu. I will buy an otsu in a couple weeks. This video made me realize my dream of finding something better is just a dream at the end. Otsu is number 1 forever.

Nice the Kou is getting some well deserved love. It's been super fun to learn how to use it after maining the otsu and raiden. Been breaking in the soft and mid for a couple weeks but still think I might prefer the xsoft. Definitely think the otsu and Raiden are more likely to assist in high scores for aim trainers over the Kou, but the Kou feels so good in game. Especially for games with high vertical recoil like pubg and insurgency, and even something like battlebit if you play with ~50cm.

For a boomer like me, who started with mouses for 3$ and very cheap office mouse-pads ( the ones that sometimes company give as a present in the past :) ) I have to say that mouse sensors and mouse-pads really improved a lot in the last 20 years. In the recent years with my increased desire to improve my aiming, I went through some mouses and pads and I have to say - I will never go back to a wired mouse and It will be very difficult to abandon my HIEN :) especially as I play only Apex Legends. I used sleeve when I wanted to reach and stay in High Diamond, Masters but in recent time I just play pubs for fun and I don't feel the need of the sleeve as I don't care if my aim is flawless for my skill level. Also a really big PLUS for the HIEN is that when it gets dirty overtime you just use some detergent and warm water and its brand new again with the same feeling and zero wearing. This is the most durable pad I ever had.

I got similar feelings about the Venus, the very high static friction combined with the moderate dynamic friction is a weird combination and makes direction changes while tracking difficult. Its a shame because it was my first and only mousepad that i spent more than 20€ on and the quality of the Venus is great. I'm currently on a 3€ pad that i prefer over the Venus. It was a special offer at my local grocery store and I just bought it because it was so cheap but it actually has exactly the glide properties I was looking for: a smooth polyester surface with low static and dynamic friction and a firm 3mm rubber base. The size is great too 900x400mm. Just no stitched edges.

the problem with the venus is the direction of the weave. if you have the venus normally placed on your desk(logo in the bottom right) the weave pattern is vertical rather than horizontal. most pads have a horizontal weave pattern. you're basically fighting the weave of the pad while using it. try putting logo in the top right and the pad should be useable now. it's the same weave as a bunch of top mousepads. they just placed it in the wrong direction. having the weave horizontal is also better for your sensor as it allows it to track more accurately. a bunch of pads that cause spinouts on mice have a vertical weave pattern.

hi, I'm new to this world, i've played fps games since 2018 but i never thought about buying a good mousepad, i live in europe and i play various games such as sgo overwatch and quake, i've been using an aliexpress mousepad for the last 4 years which i know it sounds wrong but isn't that bad but my biggest complain is that the pad feels different everytime i play i think because of humidity, it gets sticky in some areas and in others glides as if i just washed it, any tip for a mousepad i could buy around 30-35€ (shipment to europe included)? i have never tried a good mousepad so i dont know which type would suite me the best but i think a hybrid solution between speed and control would be something i could appreciate, so i can hold angles in cs without my aim being jittery and still have a smooth tracking while playing the lg on quake. thanks in advance and btw insane aim, a pleasure to watch.

I feel like I didn’t have to change my grip at all after I started getting used to arm sleeves. Although there is slow down after a couple hours of gaming. I think my arm oils/sweat/moisture gets onto the pad after a long time even through sleeves, just means I have to spray the pad with more window cleaner. It was interesting to see the original cerapad too! More people use the kin which seems to have no sleeve requirements

hi have you tried the spyre rosana? if so what are your thoughts? thankyou.
@ViscoseOCE
@ViscoseOCE 7 месяцев назад
i have! heres my segment about the rosana from a review for it that i scrapped "Starting off with the one I was the most interested in, the Rosana is almost a direct upgrade of the kamek in my eyes but unfortunately carries over some of the traits that made the kamek hard to recommend universally. The most noticeable difference between the two is that the stitching on the rosana is a far higher quality than the kameks. It reminds me of the strider quartz actually, with very wide stitching, but it’s far more uniform than the kameks and very soft to the touch. The other big difference between the two pads is the firmness. I’d say the kamek lands somewhere between a soft and extra soft artisan, while the Rosana is a tiny bit more firm than soft. Despite what you might assume given the Rosana is a refresh of the kamek, the surfaces aren’t exactly identical. The rosana’s feels a bit smoother on the skin and is overall slightly faster than the kamek. These differences are small though, it’s pretty safe to assume that if you liked the kamek you’ll like this too. But what about for people who havent used the kamek, how can you know if the rosana is for you? The best way to explain that is to go back to what made the kamek one of my favorite pads to begin with, the friction balancing. It’s a control pad, with fairly high dynamic friction but avoids feeling muddy due to its relatively low static friction. Because of this I don’t feel like it’s slow speed limits my adjustments much while still providing a similar amount of dynamic friction to a pad like the gsrse, helping with stability across wide angle movements. The kamek was the pad I chose to use back when I competed in counter strike, the consistency it provided just made it a better choice for me than something faster like an otsu. For casual play I think I would still prefer something like the raiden for that extra freedom of movement, but the kamek didn’t feel like it was restricting me even in games like apex. This strength has been continued into the Rosana, maintaining the kameks unique friction balancing while addressing some of its flaws. The first thing to mention is the effect the firmer base has on the feel of the pad. The rosana felt much more consistent in terms of speed due to that firmer base, while still allowing for intentional friction control by pressing down onto the pad. This all works together to make the Rosana a much more rounded option in my opinion, a slower pad that can very easily work in faster shooters like apex as well as tac fps, whereas the kamek felt more specifically targeted towards csgo and valorant players in my opinion. Not every issue the kamek had has been addressed though. While the stitching has been upgraded it still isn’t perfectly straight along the edges, which makes the pad look a lot cheaper than it feels. The base, as far as I can tell, is very similar to the kameks, so not great. It’s been minorly upgraded at most, so it still might not stick to the desk well on some setups but I’ve had no issues on mine. The other thing I can’t fully confirm is if the issues with the speed of the surface varying massively with changes in humidity from the kamek are still present on the rosana, I think it would be better due to the firmer base, but I have no way of testing since I live in a very dry area. If you live in a more humid place though it might be worth looking for the opinions of others once the rosana is fully released. These issues are really just me nitpicking though. My experience with the rosana has been great, the consistency it offers is amazing and it's probably the pad I’d use as my main if I ever compete in fps games again for that reason. For 25 usd, if your looking for a more control focused mousepad I don’t think you can do much better than this. "

Your channel is a hidden gem - thank you! Hope you make more of these informative videos! Please can you help me decide once and for all between the Artisan Zero and LGG Saturn Pro strictly for CS? Coming from an old GSR which I definitely don’t mind but now getting old, I’m keen for change. Low sens - 400 DPI, 1 sensitivity. Thank you!

Interesting take on the LGG Venus. I have most of the pads mentioned in this vid and the Otsu XS and the Venus Pro are by far my favourites. Mained the Otsu for ages but I might even prefer the Venus Pro, for most of the reasons you didnt like. The Otsu Venus comparison falls short. The Venus Pro feels like an inbetween the Hien and Otsu, yet significantly slower than both. My only dislikes of the Otsu are how it sometimes feels a bit too much like plastic, how it very quickly starts looking nasty (ptfe wear + the hair thing) and how I sometimes wished it had a tad bit more control. The Venus Pro addresses all those issues for me. It's the embodiment of a balanced pad. It's soft, yet sits between what would be XS and S for artisan pads. It feels more like a cloth pad, while having plenty of speed, while offering more control than most artisan offerings. The texture also adds a bit of control while not nearly being as abrasive as the Hien. It doesnt look nasty as quickly and I prefer the colorways. A true jack of all trades. We'll see how I end up liking it if i used it for as long as I used the Otsu but for me it's starting to look like the best of all worlds.
@ViscoseOCE
@ViscoseOCE Год назад
that is interesting, i found it to just feel really muddy rather than providing more control while maintaining decent speed. I've been curious about the venus pro for a while tbh, i think I would like the surface more on a softer base but its way too expensive for me to justify. I'm glad your liking it though, nice to know I was right that expectations might have played a role in me disliking it since i was expecting a close to 1:1 clone of the otsu.

@@ViscoseOCE Hahaha fair enough. Can I also ask how you deal with dust/ hairs getting stuck on your Zero? That was the first pad I ever mained but because of the hair issue, I switched to the Hayate Otsu, but unfortunately the texture irritated the hell out of my skin. (I was only expecting this type of irritation on a Hien). Which is why I'm looking at the Energon as it is advertised as a fast yet controlled pad that doesn't have 2 of the issues i mentioned above. For now, I'm using the $10 dollar IKEA pad which I honestly have 0 complaints whatsoever. And if they came up with a black Raiden I would add that to my cart immediately 🤣 Would love any other recommendations u have for CSGO/ Valorant players 😊

any tips on cleaning the mousepad? i don't want to wash it completely because i'm afraid of destroying the mousepad
@ViscoseOCE
@ViscoseOCE Год назад
on non artisan pads what I do is put the mousepad in the bath, put this cleaning powder thing on top of it and run the water over it while rubbing the powder in. After that I let it dry out of the sun for a few hours on artisan pads I spray a disinfectant spray over the surface evenly and use a micro fiber cloth to wipe it down and leave it to dry for about half an hour
