The last story, she points out that she was never the athletic type. "not in the slightest", to quote the story She also points out that she was never invited to parties. Her dad was a construction worker and her mother is a stay-at-home mom. The end, she accepts a life where she's athletic and popular. Her mom regularly leaves the house at least to go to the gym, and her dad is a police officer. The implication being that she's given into the dream and accepted a life that was not originally hers. She was NOT grateful for her life of poverty. The alternative option is that she wasn't grateful for her life of wealth, but then the story would have thrust her into poverty to show her the things she took for granted instead of the guise of someone poor thrust into wealth. In short, she pulled an "Inception".

About that last story. Throughout the story the main character states that her father owns a construction business, that she doesn't like sports and prefers academic things, and that they both dress the part. However, after the dream, she wakes up to her trophy-filled, soccer girl room, and her father in a police uniform. And yet she treats this as normal, despite her previous characterization. I could be looking too far into it, perhaps the previous characterization was also fully part of the dream, but a part of me thinks that the end is only a continuation of the dream.

That sickness creepypasta hits different in 2020.

I have a theory about the Journey story... I feel like the 'dream' version of the protagonist was someone who lived in the house before Soccer Girl did. "Lisa" was a much more common name, say, 20 years ago, and the fact that her mom was a stay-at-home mom who pushed her to be a cheerleader gives the family a slightly more old-fashioned vibe. Lisa probably died when she was hit by a bus (as in the dream), and Soccer Girl "became" her in the dream, seeing everything through her eyes. Ergo why she recognized the room itself but not the possessions. I could be wrong (I probably am, in fact) but that was my interpretation of it?

In the first story, the "child violence" doesn't seem out of place or forced because it's a virus that's making them go crazy and violent. And honestly, who's to say that they don't make the adults go crazy too, and that's why Maddie's parents told her to go to school so they wouldn't get infected and go mad too? I really liked it!

The second story reminded me of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers."

Funny how the beginning part of that second story is exactly how companies want their employees to act. Imagine walking into a Wal-Mart where everyone actually works with a smile 100% of the time.

Wow, those were some really enjoyable stories. If it wasn't for the great setup, I think the Sick Kid story would have just deteriorated into a blood and murderfest, but I do think it was handled quite well. And the last story was great, too. It's nice to see people enjoy their own lives, feeling appreciative of what they have.

I completely disagree about that final story. It was trite and predictable. Who was the girl in the dream? Was this person just saying they dreamt they were someone else who woke up in their life? I love the way the author really dance around the fact that they were fat in the dream. It was some very weird undeveloped fantasy that didn't make a whole lot of sense
