I leave my hair alone. I literally didn’t know how long my hair was till today. It’s super thick now too. I have single braids in and wash and condition in the braids. The key is leaving it alone like everyone says. My hair went from my ears to almost the middle of my back in a yr. I never had a wash and go and I don’t want to start doing those but boy I can wait to do it just once lol. My hair is super curly. Never been this curly my entire life.
Yessss!! I’d like to add this: And in “leaving it alone”, we still have to take care of it. Many ppl think that once you Protective style it, that’s it. No, we need to stay AHAED of the dryness but moisturizing it every couple of days.
I am currently taking zinc, vitamin D, omega - 3, and I’m incorporating more protein in my diet nowadays. I also use a henna treatment (with essential oils) 1 - 2 times a month on a wash day. I am seeing great results. It’s so amazing how small lifestyle changes can make a huge difference in hair health.
Leaving hair alone after wash time helps preserve length. Menapause coach had mentioned that menopause is actually one day. Afterwards it's postmenopause. Thanks for sharing.
I'm 33 years vegan, over 10 years gluten-free, and 22 years into my natural hair journey. My family's mixed ancestry is visible in the variety of textures my hair has. I try to do as little as possible to my hair: shampoo, condition, oil, however, my styling is mainly a small selection of uncomplicated up-dos. My 2 biggest problems with my hair have been: Finding someone, who knows how to cut it, and I only want it to be all one length; no one seems to know how to do that, EXTREMELY frustrating. Finding gluten-free, vegan products that actually nourish and support my hair health, and growth; so many products just coat, and are ultimately counterproductive. Thank you for all of your videos, particularly those that name the ingredients we should seek, and those we should avoid. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us this way.
Thanks for the video. Coming from a woman who a hysterectomy (tea tree essential oil in my shampoo, rosemary essential oil in my conditioner, mini twist for protective style, shower filter, vitamin d, iron vitamins, bone vitamins, omega vitamins, chia and flaxseed, salmon, and plenty of water. Workout everyday. I have 4b high porosity hair and I also take my twist out and wash weekly never skipping prepoo and deep condition and Acv rinse. And I moisturize my twist every other day. Hope that helps❤ and I use qhemet pomade on my scalp.
Traction alopecia is what I am experiencing right now so today I have decided to get the health of my hair back on track! I am so thankful to have stumbled across your videos. Thank you for breaking everything down for us!
Clarifying with a shampoo formulated to combat hard water, monthly protein treatments, adding hemp seeds to smoothies, multi vitamins and flaxseed oil pills (and peppermint and rosemary oil in the spray bottle) have tremendously helped with retaining length and hair density 🧡❤💛
Hi Curly Chemistry, I just want to say how much that I appreciate your videos on hair care. Apart from the abundance of valuable information and hair tips, it is the fact that you condense it all in such an accessible and joyful manner. I am white, so my hair type I imagine is a bit different from most of your community. But, I have learnt so much from you and have started things like scalp massage , rosemary oil and drinking teas on your recommendations. I am loosing a bit less hair and in general feel more positive. Your science background is very impressive and once again thank you for this wonderful channel.
Scalp massages and teas and deep conditioning More for moisture. Covering my head nightly. Covering my head with oiling and deep conditioning for a pre poo or just for more moisture. Consistency with vitamins and eating an drinking more water. Change up your routines and you will see growth. Like when i trust in the Lord. Life gets easier. Gbu. And happy healthier hair journey and life. Be safe. Be well. Behave too. Bless week all.
I’m post menopause and 21 months natural. Consistent and Plenteous Moisture is the key for me and it begins with Prepoo the night before wash day (coconut oil and SheaMoisture Intensive conditioner). Wash day is: Hydrating Shampoo, Protein treatment, deep conditioning, aloe vera spray followed by leave-in and then wash-n-go products. I moisturize every day with Pattern Moisture Milk until apx 2-3 days before wash day when I switch to the heavier TGIN Daily Moisturizing Cream. I throw in an ACV rinse every so often as well as Pattern Cleansing Shampoo once every 2 months or more often depending on how heavy handed I’ve been with products that week. I am all about wash-n-go’s until Winter And I leave it alone all week!! No combing, No banding, No detangling, No edge control stuff, No making sections to moisturize…Nothing!! Most importantly, I take a load of supplements including D3, Collagen, Mushroom Complex, Zinc, B12 and B-complex, glucosamine, folic acid, etc. My hair is healthy, super thick and has grown like crazy. A very spontaneous and unplanned Big Chop at 6 months natural left me with only 6” of length. My strands are now 13+” (bra strap length in back) and top of bra (where the cup dips down in front!). I trimmed my ends for the 1st time since going natural 2 weeks ago. Also - I drink water, water, water all day and scalp massages every morning and night (before I wrap and bonnet). 🙂
Wash my hair once a week, deep conditioning every wash day, stretching my hair with no heat, wearing my hair in loose styles (Afros, twist & braid outs, puffs) and leaving it alone till wash day ❤
I changed my diet to mostly plant base and I also wash my hair more often (2 times a week) I also use rosemary oil on my scalp each time I wash my hair.
I love your content! Can you do a video on how to care for hair in it’s blow dried state/stretched state?😢 What products won’t revert hair back and still provide enough moisture to prevent breakage?
I’m really intentional how I handle my hair because I learned many years ago I was not caring for my hair properly. However, sometimes when I massage my scalp it gets very sore, tender and feels like it’s burning. I do the oils, moisturizing shampoo/conditioners, leave in to keep my hair healthy, but still sometimes not all the time I experience the discomfort.
Thanks for this important helpful information and I just keep my wash days regular lock and sell in the moisture protein treatments and here and there I'll do some Rosemary and Clover
I love your content! Can you do a video on how to remoisturize while using hair grease? Or if you’ve done a video that contains that info where can I find it?
I've a hair-adjacent question. Pre-pooing has been a game changer (THANK YOU!) but I'm worried all that coconut oil is going to clog up the drain. Have you had to deal with this at all?
Not sure of your length but keeping your ends away from your clothes helps moisture retention. Use satin or sateen only on pillows, hats, hair ties, etc. I cover my hair when lounging on pillows, etc. Point is to prevent drying out.
@@GBrown-nr2jn thank you for these tips💕 I think another thing that has damaged my hair is cutting out oils and butters and depending on gel. Now I'm switching back
Thanks for info as always. What make headband wig is the one you're wearing looks very real or it your hair just wearing a headband, prob what made me think it was a wig if so sorry...💕
Great video. I think my twa is just long enough now to be corn rolled. Will that be a good protective style for me and help my hair to grow in more? Also, how do you wash and condition corn rolls?
Hi Tonya, I've heard that rosemary tea/oil lenghtens the anagen phase, thus allowing our hair to grow longer. Do you know if this is true or have you heard something similar, like based on a scientific study or anecdotal evidence?
I haven't been consistent with my routine, so my hair isn't growing right now. I did research on herbs and choose all I thought would be of benefit to me and created my own herbal hair oil. I found a brand that has a lot of herbs in their ingredients list. I try to use hair products that are on the heavier side since my hair is both high porosity, thick and dense.
So if you don’t have very tightly curled hair, but still have black hair (wavy) should you still oil your hair every 1-2 days? All this stuff about how often to oil is so confusing l. Some say only on wash days and others say never
I really don’t know what you mean with wavy hair. Most black People don’t have wavy hair. If your hair is not textured (yt people wavy) you wouldn’t want to oil your scalp every 1-2 days since your will appear oily.
Hi curly chemistry i have coils and my hair is dry and flaking and damge and hair loss can you have items for my hair like shampoo, conditioner, hair oil, hair mask with products at walmart
Hi Tonya, I wasn't sure how to get a question through to you. But I wanted to know if you had any information on virgin relaxers? This is a term I've never heard. Saw it on a Facebook reel and wanted to get more information on it. To my knowledge there was no healthy or safe relaxer. Just wanted to know if this is something that is safe or will it cause damage to your hair. Thank you in advance for your response to this.
Do you moisturize first? I start back using grease and my hair and my daughters hair is moisturized for almost 2 weeks. My scalp I do every 3 days. But it’s a process. Wash, condition, leave in conditioner, then grease.
