An introductory video on the main strategies you can use to make your friends become enemies with Magic the Gathering commander Korvold Fae Cursed King #magicthegathering #mtg #mtgcommunity #cardgame
There's a sliver precon?! Oh fuck we're all gonna die. New precon means new slivers. And what's crazier is that their gonna be rare/mythic slivers. We're fucked.
I once played against a korvold land destruction deck. We all had like 2 mana and were discarding every turn to hand size. No board state. Meanwhile, our korvold player was sitting on an insta kill commander and STILL REFUSED TO ATTACK US. most miserable experience of my life.
@Its Honk this is why you only should crack out the Korvold deck when the other ppl at the table are getting too cocky or they are winning too often or they brought a high powered deck themselves
It seems you’ve forgotten about food tokens with Korvold. if you really want to mess with your opponent, start sacrificing food tokens or clue tokens. Also, in those treasure decks, you can run Xorn and Goldspan Dragon for some extra bs
My Korvold exists entirely on a strict diet of lands and things made by those lands coming into play. Yeah, I'll sac them all to kill someone, but then they're coming right back en masse with an Ob Nixilis, the Fallen to kill everybody else. Jund 'em!
I just make stupid numbers of tokens. Scute Swarm should never have been printed. And if I can't swing face, I'll just heartpiercer manticore, fling, or Jarad pay 3 nuke all opponents for hehe damage. Or I can go the VERY tedious route of strip mining every land my opponents even thought of putting in their deck if they wanna build up their lil "don't touch me" fort.
@@fuzzyhughes3622 Oh yeah, getting the Strip Mine lock early enough in a full pod is the ultimate to e power move. My favorite game ender though was swinging with the boy, giving it infect with Tainted Strike, killing one player. Soul's Fire to kill another since it still has infect, cracking a treasure, responding to draw trigger by Reclaiming Soul's Fire back to the top, and doing it again to end the game.
Exsanguinate is very fun on decks that generate large quantities of mana such as treasure decks. Its also very fun on decks which have a reduce cost by 1 feature that allow cards with mana value X to be cast infinitely. That basically allows you to play exsanguinate, and just immediately kill your opponent in one go.
Day 1 of asking for Nicol Bolas, The Ravager (The one that flips to a planeswalker) Gotta be my most hated card purely because of the deck my friend built around it that has *every Nicol Bolas* in it
Wonderful, an Armageddon on turn 4? Perfect I can sac em with zuran orb to draw 8. And 8 lands is a slow game. If I have Bootleggers stash, out I'll just convert em into treasure like I already do and then use that to cast rec sage or another "all lands come back" thing. You can slow most lands decks with an Armageddon lr at least hurt em. Korvold gets HAPPY when it sees mass land destruction. Hell,, I pit overlaid terrain in cause it MAKES me sac all my lands (the extra mana upon tap for future lands is a bonus that rarely comes into effect) But agreed, Armageddon is a fun surprise in my monowhite decks, nobody expects the color with the least ramp to nuke its lands
I once sat down with a buddy of mine and brewed the most twisted Turbo Landsac Korvold. It was supposed to be """casual""", so we decided to go with tutors but no infinite combos. The latter didn't matter because we took ALL the stuff we could get, like Rain of Filth and Squandered Resources. The idea was to go through multiple sac cycles of lands which we'd bring back with effects like Splendid Reclamation, to pile up more and more mana through Lotus Cobra, Tireless Provisioner etc. and kill the entire table with a big Torment of Hailfire. It won its first game on turn 4. I have yet to see a deck immediately escalate like that again.
This inspired me to make lands korvold. Once made, playtesting made me realize how decimating this will be to introduce to the pod. And dont worry, my friends actually dont know my birthday in the first place because i have trust issues
I built korvold, and mine is a combo of the two. It's mainly control korvold with some treasure creation mixed in with my favorite being descent into avernus
Korvold treasure sac is how i had a half baked deck chock full of higher cost cards with a 27 landbase and not a lot of ramp and still won 60%of games with it
My Korvold (which I transformed into Slimefoot and Squee because Korvold won almost every single game I brought him to) used to be a mix of both but really liked just sticking a Rancor on Korvold and hitting someone for commander damage!
I run Goblin combo Korvold. Variant of Turbo based on goblin combos which are wonky but relatively flexible and easy to tutor. Backed up with Dockside shenanigans, recursion and a smattering of value outlets like Ashnods to help me get there fast. Its a turbo deck that plays better a tier or two below the CEDH level reachable by dedicated treasure Korvold
Not my best sack deck, but my funniest, is my Omnath of Rage (angry jellybean) deck that I like to call my "Elemental Gun". Assemble a terrifying boardstate of elementals and like a billion lands, only to sack all my lands to Zuran orb. By that point I either have greater good or goblin bombardment up and the gun is assembled. Now I have instant-speed sack damage that can kill anybody if they do anything that I personally don't like, and forcing the stack to have legitimately like 50 things on it is endlessly funny. And considering how expensive and stupid it is to set up, you might be surprised how consistently it actually fucking works lmao.
Korvold simply inspires me to do terrible things, good video. Can you cover some of the other Warhammer 40k cards? Such as Trazyn, the Infinite. Also, is it too early to request cards from the Lord of the Rings set? Such as The One Ring or Tom Bombadyl?
So when I got into commander first brew was a korvold deck and it was honestly terrible and then I met my first play group who I would play pretty often during my senior year of high school. it was 99 percent wubrg good stuff, counter spell missery, thoracle decks and that one group hug player who some how helps only the winning player. To say it was not fun was a under statement. I would never stoop so low to be blue to stop combos and I did not want to build some winter or statis crap so I thought long and hard on what I should do to be more completive in the group. I thought I know I will make korvold lands but play mass land destruction and recursion. Fun fact red has some of the most brutal and plenteful land hate and in the game and all of it says sacrifice. So I would wipe the board constantly and strip mine my opponents to death. I have moved on from those days and that play group but it always instilled the love of self-destructive decks that create effective engines. I do miss that old deck as now my korvold deck is just boring land fall and korvold deservedly gets a lot of ire from the board. However I now just play new braid as my permanent sac deck who just says draw three cards every turn and that is honestly just great. its like rhystic study in that I get to ask every one a question I already no the answer to. great fun and super good on a budget
I never liked aristocrat decks, but I wanted to make korvold, so I made landfall korvold. Im not running any of the fetch lands but the panoramas. But even then, the deck works so good without korvold being there that he's more just a beater for them to waste removal on.. The real threat is pretty much everything else in the deck.
i run a mix Korvold of turbo and control, wich ends in them getting highly pissed and scooping the minute i can start drawing 2-3 cards a turn + destroy 2-3 creature before battle and kill someone with commander damage
He has mentioned most of my korvold deck. Mind you, I did not search for suggestions I saw the cards and was like yes, this does go in a korvold deck. No one has mentioned the the combo that I call tax fraud.
Smuggler stash just make Korvold fucking invincible. All land can be tapped to produce treasure token. Ok you spend mana to draw card and permanently pump korvold. God forbids you have parallel lives or doubling season out.
Can confirm. I had a heavy landfall + recursion strategy that I eventually took apart. When I got going it was lots of trigger resolutions but my split attention made the deck clunky. Now I’m looking to redo it. I looked through my card pile I set aside for it and remembered the tons of treasure support I have for it. Now I’m thinking if I should do any of the following: Gyome? (Yes, definitely) Have a focus on creature tokens? I have that one cat demon from Baldur’s fate that cares about creature death so maybe. Self-saccing tokens like eldrazi scions or Chandra tokens would work best here. If I’m focusing more on treasures how much reanimation should I run? If I forgo the creature token strategy it may behoove me to run some reanimation to restart my engine(s). I already have Omnath landfall so I don’t want to make another one with Korvold as I am also wanting to make Aeisi landfall. I do have foodchain tho so perhaps I lean into that (or go full cEDH, I have the mana rocks for it, sadly not the duals)? He’s number 1X on my to-do list so only time will tell. Hope he gets a new card with the return to Eldrain though!
As someone who's played two degen decks back to back I need to see a roast of either Kroxa, Titan of death's hunger or Malestrom Wanderer. Both those decks have made me an insta target on multi-player nights and still nobody can stop me because I'm a madman
who sacrifice land's? Any deck in pauper or modern that runs Lava Dart baby! I had an opponent who thought he was safe at 13 life, but I have 4 mountains a Kessig Flamebreather, 2 lava darts, and firestorm in hand. No lands for me but no life for opponent. Kuldotha Red is absolutely busted
Yup. I've built all 3 versions of korvold as it slowly evolved into the most cancerous of deck styles, land sac. It's so efficient, I sometimes need to sac Korvold or I deck out cause I played overlaid terrain or a Lotus field had an etb. Fastest deck I've ever built and it has won a SINGLE game on turn 2 with a near perfect hand when the only blue deck had only pact of negation for free spell countering on turn 1 when I went first. If a commander says it wants you to see it's lands or its rocks, don't listen to them. It's a fast track into getting buried in a literally landslide or meteor shower of value and mana ramp.
Prossh has kobolds, Korvold has goblins. All is right in the multiverse! (And now I want to have these two as dragons in my pathfinder game, respective armies, and subsequent snack breaks, included!)
And here I was thinking my Korvold landfall deck was not taking the easy way out with treasures. I had the story Korvold gave up the thrown to be a gardener.
u made me remember i locked a guy out of play who was playing with prosper on untap i boardwiped 2 times, then he played marionette master since he was out of lands, he passed, but i eot'ed swording the shit out of marionette master instant quit
I play a mix between control and turbo Korvold and I love having chill turns and turbo turns play on, and just having a rollercoaster of turns, honestly, my favourite deck I have
You should roast The Scarab God, Niv-Mizzet and Miirym, Sentinel Wurm. And, yes, I'm that guy in the play-group who has decks for each of them... If you're not familiar, Miirym + Spark Double is beyond cancer (the original copies the Spark copy, so you end up with three copies on the field, with two being non-legendary). With any haste anthem (best is Rhythm of the Wild, as it shuts down counterspells), every dragon becomes an absolute game-ender, as you summon three nonlegendary copies of each one you play. Add Thassa, Panharmonicon, and Double Lives and things get even more silly. The full stack never happens, but here's some perspective if you hit the nuts--if you have Panharmonicon out and you play Miirym + Last Chance, you get an extra turn (that you will die at the end of). During this extra turn you play Spark Double to summon 3 nonlegendary Miiryms, and follow it up with Terror of the Peaks, which enters the battlefield as 9 Terrors, each of which double-triggers on every subsequent on (eg. real one does no damage on etb, 1st token triggers the real one to hit for 10, 2nd token triggers first two for 20, and so on, resulting in 410 damage). Niv-Mizzet is much simpler. You just control until you can combo kill with Niv and one of the damage-draw auras (eg. Niv+ Curiosity is lethal the moment you draw or a player casts an instant/sorcery). The Scarab God is infamous for a reason.
The HUGE glaring flaw of Korvold turbo is that it needs Korvold to do much of anything. Its plan B of making treasures for a big spell is mediocre. It also costs 5 and lacks blue to protect itself on that stack. This means that after a few counters/removals they're done. He's also boardwipe sensitive if you keep their board clean BEFORE he etbs. He's still a kill on sight commander and tremendously powerful, but the best builds for the deck need him too much. Keeping this in mind makes eliminating Korvold players much easier, of which there are PLENTY.
How About a video on Kresh Bloodbraided or Yurlock of Scorch Thrash. Kresh is korvolds counters on steroids, no draw only beat stick, sac, pumps and evasion while Yurlok is Group Thug, each gift a bomb that only gets bigger each turn til tapping a land produces 7 mana, forces you to tap everything, you take damage for each almd tapped this way, said dmg is boosted and you cant even activate abilities anymore tp sink it. Nobody believed in too much mana til i made mana but completely redundant as tapping 1 land casts most monocolored spells, but also useless cause soending 9t hurts just as much as not spending it. Ahhh good old Kaervek
Lol my korvold is turbo…TO THINK hmm i made it before korvold existed… Once more yes i feel like a psychopath with “need for speed” not just a movie but also a card. Sac a land give target creature haste
