So I’m on 5th grade and I have been absolutely just stuck at 6 points per game. I know how good I am and I do not play at the level I can. I’ve scored 6 points 3 games in a row. It is partially because I struggle with free throws. And sometimes the refs don’t call things when they should and I get overly frustrated. I have a game tomorrow so hopefully you see this because I really need something. I bet I could definitely score over 10-14 points per game. In 4th grade I would be so so happy about that but know my expectations have been put so high for no reason. P.S. thank you for getting me in to basketball. All of you were really big parts of my life already. Oh and I haven’t been getting much playing time. Like 12 min a game for the past couple games. There are people starting over me that I don’t think are as good and I just feel demoted from being a starter.

That happened to me as well around the 6th grade, just goes away with more experience playing and training. I promise you there isn't a curse on you that makes you only score 6 points per game forever hahaha - Simon, Team DeepGame

I'm currently a freshman in high school. I'm currently starting on JV as a 5'11 PG, but might get moved up to varsity late in the season if I play well and there's a spot (our varsity team is really good this year). Since the season started, I haven't been playing as fast as I should. There isn't enough pop in my dribble and step. During fall and summer league against JV/varsity level competition I averaged around 20 PPG on 50 40 90, but I'm averaging around 8 PPG on terrible efficiency now on JV. I've always been a really efficient player too so that's crazy. I don't believe it's a simple mental fix because I've been doing mental training consistently for some time now and I feel fine in terms of staying in the moment. But lately I've been just frustrated all the time 24/7. I'm always frustrated with how things are going and what's happening. I find myself being frustrated every practice and game, not once ever being able to be proud and feel like I'm doing what I'm capable of and should be doing. Over the summer I worked EXTREMELY hard and still am now. Over 8 hours per day in the summer of GOOD work and I was very strategic with it to make sure I got adequate rest. I have no regrets of what I did and am doing in terms of effort, but the results are not displaying what I've been doing and it's extremely confusing, demoralizing, and worst of all frustrating. Is there anything mentally that I can be doing to help get me a step in the right direction and help me get through/ out of this stretch?

Maybe the problem is you’re always frustrated. Try to accept whatever happens, whether good or bad. Give yourself some slack and trust your training. Perhaps slightly reducing your training load could be beneficial. Sometimes less is more. Also, going to do other stuff outside of basketball so that you can really have fun and keep enjoying the sport.

If you ask the question, "why do I feel so frustrated" and go down to the core of the issue, you're likely to find that you're frustrated because you're frustrated. If you think that frustration is going to cause you to perform worse, just think about how often NBA players feel frustrated when things don't go their way - a missed shot, a game lost, a turnover, etc. Everybody is going to become frustrated at times. Those who can move on quickly and not take frustration too seriously (it's normal) will be able to not be as rattled by frustration. In other words, there's no need to be frustrated about being frustrated =) - Simon, Team DeepGame
