Natasha-Right! My daughter is in Theater in high school and they did Charlie Browns Christmas last year. In today's overly sensitive climate, I was expecting them to cut out the religious portion of it...or if they left it in, I was expecting some people to complain. Much to my surprise, they left it in! And even more surprising, not only did nobody complain...there were people coming up to the cast when it was done and thanking them for leaving it in. The teacher received many comments about how wonderful it was...even from people of other religions. We live in northern Virginia area outside DC and there is vast diversity...even with that, it was received so very well. I guess there is hope after all!
@@dewrus2153 This is so so heartening! I'm a central VA girl myself, and know what you mean in the significance of your location. So that is a Christmas miracle right there!
Miss Peggy's book is a best seller because she is a hoot and an AMAZING story teller. And a Marylander!!! Just like Mike. This was the fastest that I figured out the REST OF THE STORY!
Mike, the timing of this is uncanny. Last Sunday our kids program at church was based on the Charlie Brown Christmas. During the first service, the pastor did a sermon on the special and all the hidden messages. For example, during Linus's recital, he drops his security blanket as he is reciting the bible passage. There is no other time where you will see Linus not holding his blanket. With one other exception. At the end, he wraps it around the base of the Christmas tree. After that sermon and the kids program during the following service I had to smile about all the things I didn't know about that silly 30 minute cartoon that almost wasn't. Great story once again Mike, thanks and a very Merry Christmas to you and yours.. Oh yeah, one more thing... Just ordered your Mom's book for my wife. I know she will love it.
I remember waiting with much anticipation for the Charlie Brown Christmas Special to come on the very first time. I couldn't read yet, but I enjoyed looking at the colorful Sunday comic strips in the Westbank Guide and Peanuts I could understand without an interpreter . How could a cartoon based on the Peanuts comic strip go wrong! The Charlie Brown Christmas Special may have been small potatoes to Hollywood suit types, but it was a very big deal at the time for every kid under 90 with a television!
I became a little teary eyed hearing this story. Much gratitude to You Mike Rowe for all you do to bring out light from the corners of what some see as a dark world. The crown jewels you are accumulating are far greater than a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. 💕
Being born in 1964,I wasn't by far the first to see that show. Enjoying it was easy, those kids gave me,a little boy from Chicago,a time of joy. Being a fan,of yours ,I was searching. I found this,Im happy to say. You gave me,that choked up,feeling. Thank you! I appreciate what you do,and have done. Again thank you for making moments of my life,a little less stressful. Semper- Fi!
No matter what mood I'm in during the Christmas season I have never missed A Charlie Brown Christmas since 1965 when I was 8 years old. My kids Watch and my grand-kids now watch. It's tradition!!
You are a national treasure, Mike. I've been laughing with you since the QVC days in the wee hours. Merry *Christ*mas to you & Freddie & the family! Blessings! Jackie in NY state
I'm 62 and I still watch this every year. I notice now that I get kinda sad, I think because of the loss of childhood innocence in the world today. It reflects a time when kids were kids and didn't need parents around all the time.
I remember watching that every Christmas until I was 13, I even got my kids to watch it. The best Christmas cartoon ever! By the way, You are the biggest reason why your shows and Podcast are doing so well. I don't think Dealiest Catch would have done as good with any other narrator or specials host. Keep up your good works Mike. Your parents must be real proud of you.
I bought your mom's book, complete with her autograph. But what was really satisfying is that you also autographed it. Well the press on picture of you and your mom was autographed but it was fun to give this as a gift. My daughter also lives your mom. What a wonderfully lovely lady. What a lucky son you are Mike Rowe
Dear Sir, I appreciate your wisdom and poetic nature, very charming. Dirty Jobs was a great series, it exposed that of which most of us take for granted as well as acknowledging those that did so with great pride and I thank you. To keep it short, maybe the next series might be ‘Done Dirt Cheap’...The Struggles of American Families. Thank you again and Merry Christmas.
I will take the double meaning: 1) I want many many youth find successful employment in these opportunities. 2) This subject makes great entertainment & education.
Not everyone decides at 2yo like me that they HAVE TO BE A DOCTOR. Few have a calling to be a healer but I did. So not everyone should be going to college. I know many decent people who should not set foot in a college and I am grateful they knew it too. But I first obtained a Tech degree to afford my necessary college degree to get into medical school. But I am all about education and have poor dexterity (literally I have brain damage in this area due to no iron in my infant formula). I was a an excellent psychiatrist until bacterial meningitis with two strokes ruined me. It took 5 doctors to replace me. Many people live today bc of me. Many more live better.
Thanks Mike. Great storytelling. There will never be another Charles Shultz. I was born late in 1962 and grew up with Charlie Brown Christmas and The Grinch among others and when I was young I thought these stories were always there.
I was fortunate to grow up in a house where Paul Harvey delivered commentary on the radio every morning. I'm sure getting fed a steady diet of his wisdom helped to form the man I am today. You channel his values and presence, Mr. Rowe. I'm thankful for you.
I just got to see this. I had to finish my work first today. Thank you for the vidoe version too this week. I really do like watch you telling me stories too. Love this one. It is perfect for Christmas too.
Please bring back Dirty Jobs. Congratulation to your Mom on taking over the #1 best seller spot . Thank you the story about a "Charlie Brown Christmas. It was my favorite Christmas show growing up and I still love watching it. Merry Christmas!
Wow, Mike! That was fun to watch. We've been listening to your podcasts for about a year, and I heard on your recent podcast (119?) that your were also videoing them. This is such fantastic quality! I'll continue to listen in my car in my daily commute, then tune in on RU-vid for a double dose! Thank you for your tireless efforts to entertain and educate!
These are so much fun! Thanks Mike! I didn’t guess correctly until the last mention of the ‘worst baseball player’. I love these short stories. God Bless and Merry Christmas to all!
I truly enjoy a heart felt TY. I also enjoy just about everything I have seen you produce. I am glad you enjoy your life and may you live long and prosper (of course I am a Star Trek fan).
Excellent! I just discovered your channel and I couldn’t hit the subscribe button fast enough. This reminds me of Paul Harvey’s rest of the story which I was seriously addicted to.
On the podcast edition, he said "Lee Mendelson" instead of just "Lee," and that it was 1965, so it was about 10 seconds in that I knew what it must have been about, because I remember Lee's name as associated with the Charlie Brown specials (the producer as it turns out)
Mike I believe ol’ Paul H Aurandt would be proud. Thanks for sharing this inspirational broadcasting style with us. I can almost hear..... and now you know the rest of the story. Good Day!☕️🤔
Hey Mike. Met Shultz in Santa Rosa during a hockey tournament and the only two things I had him sign were my Snoopy Red Baron dog house bank, and the Charlie Brown figurine of him in his overcoat and hat. I love A Charlie Brown Christmas. Congrats on your continuing success from your "somewhat " doppelganger. ( yes voice included)
I thought you'd like to know, Mike, that my mom calls me every Saturday to remind me that Somebody's Gotta Do It is on. I appreciate that, because I do enjoy the show, and I get a little busy on the weekends and might miss it if it weren't for her calls. I gave her your mom's book for Christmas. She was surprised, since she had also called me to tell me you were on Huckabee's show with your mom. I acted like I didn't know too much about the book. I'm so glad you printed more, though, since I did miss out on ordering from the earlier printings. Thank you - and your mom - for creating wholesome content that I can enjoy sharing with my family. (Don't get a swollen head, though, because I also gave my sister a copy of the book, and she didn't know who you were. I guess she doesn't get Mom's phone calls! I know she'll enjoy the book anyway, and in time, we'll get her introduced to your shows. She's a busy mom of two teens at the moment.)
Mike... "Dirty Jobs" = My favorite television show ever = Please make more. It's truly an inspirational show showing the value of hard work, and hard work and inspiration are what we desperately need right now. It is a ratings plus if Barsky plays the banjo.
Damn allergies are making my eyes water and produce a lump in my throat the size of a melon. I grew up watching Charlie Brown’s Christmas special every year till I was in my thirties. Thank you for this nostalgic journey into my memories. May Charlie Brown always play baseball no matter how bad he is at it, and may all Christmas trees live in the hope that, no matter how little and frail it might be, there will be someone out there who finds it beautiful. Merry Christmas.
Of course RTF is killing it! Its the best show out there. Everything you touch turns to gold. Love everything you do...except dirty jobs and thats only because i have a weak stomach. Mrs. Rowe's book is a hoot!! Merry Christmas and Much love❤. You have MANY more years of great stuff ahead!
Too bad you couldn’t name the executives who gave it the thumbs down 👎. They too deserve credit for their arrogant closed mindedness. To often these control freaks only want to see things their way, as if no one else could ever come up with an original idea. They are the ones who give us politically correct and very boring TV shows. Not an original thought to be found. Just spin offs after spin offs of shows no one is watching. “A Charlie Brown Christmas” I’m 67 years old now and I still enjoy it when ever I happen to catch it during the holiday season. Thank you so much Sparky for your steadfast stand against the know it all corporate executives who know nothing at all. They should be exposed. I’m sure after it was a hit they all gave themselves credit for allowing it to air. Never ever mentioning that if they had had it their way, it would never have aired.
0:52 Don't tease me, man. I have watched every episode of Dirty Job maybe twice. You got my heart pumping that's for sure. I think its a big hit because American are spotting other real Americans like your self to watch. I'm hoping We as Americans have woken up and realized all the crap out there to watch that can brainwash you if you watch crap all the time. Hard to find a show out there that gives a good message these days and there is no better message than seeing a man traveling around our beautiful country to show all of us how America get it done and proudly.
Figured it out in the first 3 minutes. Charles Shultz really protected his characters to the point of suing a band for writing songs about Snoopy and the Red baron. Thank you sir for the story God bless and Merry Christmas to you and yours
I've never really been into Charlie Brown; but I sure do like the story of it's inception! I'll have to tune in this Christmas. Merry Christmas and MAGA New Year!
I had it at the first "Sparky", but my Great Uncles worked for Sparky on many of his specials. (The Smiths in the credits. iirc Frankie was the only one working on the Christmas special)
I am not ashamed to say that I could probably watch A Charlie Brown Christmas 5 days a week all year round. I am probably not alone in that statement. Thanks for the video.
