Gerard Butler: "I trained for 4 hours in the gym with two separate trainers. I didn't know what I was thinking." You can easily tell that Gerard realized he was in over his head. But when everything with the movie was all said and done, it was TOTALLY worth it. A humble personality immortalized as a legendary badass.
@@_festival The phrase 'In over Your Head' is used when one is too deeply involved with something or someone, or has more difficulties or problems than one can manage.
Achilles, Leonidas, and Maximus (Decimus Meridius) What do they all have in common apart from the fact that one does not simply mess with them (unless they have a death wish)? They all, respectively, got killed by (or under the command of) some serious wimps/cheats.
Are you kidding? Brad Pitt's Achilles was the worst casting decision ever made. His Achilles was boring as shit. Felt more like a dumb NFL player than a mythological hero.
I said nothing of the actors, much less of the directors that likely told them how to portray their characters. And I didn't even imply it. I only payed attention to the timelines of who they were able to defeat and whatever else they were able to accomplish before their own demise.
dork knight Please understand though, "abs" are primarily genetic. The muscle group which we constantly obsess over is extremely limited in it's function. In reality, having "super abs" is extremely superfluous. The only thing that muscle group does is prefent you from falling over backwards on your spine. Their job and role is obviously important but your Transverse Abdominis, Internal, and External Obliques are arguably more important where strength and conditioning are concerned, but are very easily unnoticeable to non super educated peeps.
Don't worry, you can still say its because of performance enhancing drugs (which most actors take to get into shape for a role, cannot say if he/they did though)
He made this film iconic !!! So fkg badass !!! Gerard is a legend , he represented the real Spartan leader with so much integrity and fierceness!!! One of my favorite films to this day . Incredibly well made and acted
Just realised how good of an actor Gerard Butlar is after watching how differently he caries himself in real life. superb acting, direction and editing!
"It's not a documentary. It's just a kick ass movie". If only people who whine about how inaccurate this movie is would just know it's a comic book story.
+Darvin Gramajo Its obviously not a comic book story. It's an actual battle that happened. Probably one of the most influential in history. so if you're going to make a movie about it, do it right. Don't get em wrong i liked the movie far better than the second one which was complete garbage.
+Sam Fisher Jesus, this movie was a comic book adaptation by Frank Miller. It only drew inspiration from the historical battle. there have been REAL ADAPTATIONS of that battle made into movies but THIS was from a comic book.
Got back from work late one night with dvd copy of this film. Woke my younger brother up who was asleep in his top bunk and we sat and watched this till the early hours of the morning. Just awesome!
Ok with improper lighting even the most ripped abs will not show themselves. If the light source is directly facing the abs, it's gonna look flat and only by flexing can you see the outlines. If the light is directly above you or below you, or maybe to the sides then your abs really show. This is no different for bodybuilders or just semi-athletic guys like me. If you need to flex really hard under PROPER lighting for your abs to even show then you have too much fat blocking it. But seriously lighting needs to be taken into consideration, ever seen those "Before and After" workout transformations. Yea I guarantee they had bad lighting in the BEFORE and great lighting in the AFTER.
gerade butler trained 4 months every day for his body, and some of them are done with make up to look more shaped etc... but the most of them are real muscles
whoa!!!! I made a comment like this maybe last year or early this year...and I wrote "the question is, could he pull a texan/ southern accent?"...but damn he is perfect for that role!!!
In reality, these guys are barbie dolls. True Spartans weren't about taking steroids, putting make-up on their abs and doing push-ups to get a pump before battle.
@@JoBlakeLisbon ancient/medieval fighters were actually really skinny snd had weak bones since they had such crappy nutrition. But man they were strong. Different type of strong though. You could get a Roman soldier to March 50 miles in a 100 pounds of gear to prep for an attack at dusk. Today’s soldiers can’t do that. But that Roman soldier would get SMOKED in our tactical training we have today. Im sure the Spartans were pretty ripped but obviously not like these guys. Also most of these physiques are totally attainable natural. You’d be surprised how much muscle you have if you do a hard cut.
This film inspired me to look into this battle in more depth, So i went to the actual Battlefield at Thermopylae, Mainland Greece to check it out and i'm glad i did too.. Here's the video of my trip : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SwQ77LrayIM.html
Not to the extent, plus you can see all these guys have a good physique as it is, maybe not a 5% bodyfat physique, but definitely good muscle mass with around 8-10%. Very amazing physiques.
How every actor in that movie had a ripped physique was just amazing, they all had identical abs and i assumed it was CGI but they were actually real, it proves hard work and good nutrition is very important.
This is one of my favorite movies. The shooting is incredible. Each frame was a magnificent painting. And what hetero woman didn't enjoy watching gorgeous men's bodies in leather briefs?
I trained once with one of his two trainers, he came to England where I was living at the time and had a workshop. At the end of the workshop, he wanted to demonstrate that "I don't have time for gym" is bullshit, so he proceeded with giving me the most hellish 20 minutes I have ever experienced in a gym and my legs were so destroyed I could barely drive back to London. Can't imagine how it was for Gerard training four hours with those guys per day. No wonder he didn't only look strong, he WAS strong and you can feel it in the film!
The new actor on 300 Rise of the empire sucks arse! He doesn't have that manly leader feel like Gerald does, he didnt sell the movie as good as Gerald.
DJ MATRIX I actually enjoyed reading that article, very insightful review into the film. I do agree that it had nothing on the first film because lets face it, that was simply bad-ass and is one of the greatest films of all time. My understanding of ancient history is sound if anything so I had no problem understanding the plot chronology, character twists or anachronisms that this critic encountered, as I'm sure many people would have too. Eva Green's beauty always leaves me speechless so perhaps I am a tad biased...
I believe it was not the actor, but the character in grief and decadence, but at the end meets the tryumph which in turn makes him even more heroic. Leonidas was the badass leader hero. Themistokles was the decadent loser who had carried a great burden and becomes the hero at the end. So, you have to pay attention to what measure you compare them both by.
The role of King Leonidas in Zack Snyder's 300 was most suited for Gerard Butler. And I also believe that he would have been the best casting choice as Kraven the Hunter in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man (supposingly) film saga.
All roles played by him have been the best , he has a unique way of adding emotions and conviction with a touch of finesse. I don't believe he will except any role he thinks he can't truly put his 110%. HES THE MAN.
It is beyond a shadow of a doubt that in this movie, Gerard Butler was widely praised for his performance as King Leonidas, which in turn made a big star.
I was in my mid twenties when that movie came out and now I'm 38 but going on 39. The same age he was when he was playing that movie. That's how long ago this movie came out.
ijcn0jir3nvjn3fjcifn you obviously never been to Greece.. Yes they may party a lot.. But believe me Greece is blessed.. The best country in the world geographically, and the people there are soooooo amazing!! Plus Greek men and women are the most handsome and beautiful.. Let's not forget the goddess of beauty is Greek.. And also NEVER forget that it doesn't matter how many centuries pass.. The DNA will never forget.. Greeks stay there quietly but if it will be needed and the time comes the world will see something, it never saw before .. You can't change the blood that runs into their veins and the history that runs into their minds.. They are great people.. I'm not even Greek I've lived there for a long time.. I've traveled all around the world and what I experienced in Greece I never felt it anywhere else..
A Greek Spartan King with a Scottish accent :) Imagine if he had kept his scottish accent in the entire movie. "Freeedooomm..." ....sorry... "This is Sparta" ^^
Action movie actors work very hard but there's always that one movie they're famous for that they just work their butts off for. Working out, the martial arts and choreography, just over all want to absolute perfect what the image of their character is going to be and I respect them for that.
I remembered an interview where Gerry told that all of them spartans trained together... And the ultimate motivation they had was they did not want to be remembered as the spartan who had muffintops 😂
+GhostDog65 jesus fuck i never knew!...did you think he actually fought? ... just wow, man this earth "saw" some crazy shit im telling you...just WOW, thanks for the comment otherwise i dont think i would know, i still dont believe it with all my heart, im a bit drunk man but WOW!
Jessminder Kaur Have you noticed how no feminists complained about that but they took down a spacecraft because they didn't like the scientists shirt, gender equality am i right
Jessminder Kaur well feminazis are the bad ones, They just hate men. And i think that if men and women are different then that should be used the way it always should be. It's like a short man playing basketball, he can do it but he's just not very good in some places.
Gerald Butler. You’ve done an outstanding job playing the role of Me. The fact that you sacrificed your time to learn a few facts about my home, my life, and my death. King Leonidas eternally respects you for your part.
@@Mandragora2000 originally you did not lol!! Let me fully clarify. You originally posted "true". BUT THEN DID NOT LIKE THE COMMENT. I know you liked it now, . That is some bs man :D
