Assa locks are in almost every door in Sweden, seriously.
@AttiliusRex

I second that, and almost all Swedish houses have ASSA or FAS 9-lever tumbler lock s aka "security locks" which has yet to be picked on youtube

ASSA is de facto lock maker used in Finland - like 90+ procent of commercial and public buildings have ASSA locks installed. Residential buildings maybe 80-90 procent.

I'm surprised to see that you don't have a pick-and-gut of a "regular old" ASSA Twin! (Given, they're horrible monsters to pick-mine has been in my Naughty Bin for 6 years)

+Bobby Keyz Thanks, but finding the lock was the difficult part. Picking is just a matter of making a plan, and methodically sticking with it.

IIRC, I think I did a slightly better job explaining how these locks work and interact with the key in video 141.

I'm still at the stage where picking sliders is all witchcraft. Very impressive :-) Just wondering if those sliders could be modded into devious driver pins?
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 7 лет назад
Thanks. As for modding the sliders, I actually received a challenge lock with an ASSA Twin slider (which looks like the upper part of the Desmo sliders) used as a serrated pin. Unfortunately, I don't remember who it was from, but I definitely posted a video of it.

Extraordinary picking on a very difficult lock as it seems. Does every slider actually have only 3 possible heights? The sliders all look identical with the exception of where the true gate is and here you have 3 possibilities. Why are #1 and #2 thicker at the lower part - are these one of yours that was added?
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 7 лет назад
Thanks, and good question. At first glance, you would think that there are only three heights because the gates are evenly spaced and each has three gates (2 false, 1 true). But if you look carefully, you will note that where those three gates fall on the upper part of the slider varies slightly. So there are definitely more than three cuts, but I'm not sure how many there are... my guess is 6+. The ones that I added are 4 + 8 (i.e., the back ones) which were 3 + 6 (i.e., the back ones) out of my lock.
@Potti314

LockPickingLawyer Yes, I can see the variations now. Thank you.

Fantastic job as always. How common are these locks to the US and are they common any where else or just generic?
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 7 лет назад
Thanks. They are quite uncommon. I've only seen one ever, and it was on the back of a gambling machine that I saw being taken off a casino floor. I then looked at the other machines, and all of them had Medeco Duracam locks.

"Definitely not an easy pick..." *checks time on video* Less than six minutes, and that's with a presentation of the lock first. I've played with a couple of Twins with the pins removed (they very kindly installed a long screw holding the pinstacks in place), and if there are any relations to the amount of feedback, well, hat off to you! PS. I've seen these locks on petrol pumps in here in Sweden. Just in case someone were interested in where these locks (among other places) are used.
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 7 лет назад
Thanks. They are similar to the Twins, but I find the Twins easier to read, but harder to pick. They are easier to read because the spring tension on the sliders lets you feel what is binding easier. They are harder to pick IMO because the spring tension makes it easier for sliders to drop.
@JONSLOCKPICKING
@JONSLOCKPICKING 7 лет назад
Excellent. How long did it take to get the feel for this lovely lock? I love the design of this lock. Very good picking. Thanks.
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 7 лет назад
+APACHE-LOCKSPORT With 6 sliders... not long. 5-10 minutes for the first open, but remember that I've worked on locks like this before... and I'm also constantly working on ASSA Twins, which have similar sliders (but spring loaded). With 8 sliders, probably 30 minutes for the first open.
@BillHimmel

Slider locks are impossible to bump, right? Wonder why they are not more popular?!?
@pettere8429
@pettere8429 4 года назад
Would it be possible to spring load the sliders and then add more groves for the sidebar to catch on to force the lock to be picked multiple times for a full turn?

Did you try picking Evva 3KS? How does it compare, they have a similar mechanism if I am not mistaken.

@VincentMontibus
@VincentMontibus 7 лет назад
Harry, could you please confirm that the deepest cuts on the keypins are the real gates for the sidebars, please ?
@lockpickinglawyer
@lockpickinglawyer 7 лет назад
Confirmed. You can see three cuts close to each other at the top of the slider. The two shallow ones are false gates, and the deep one is a true gate.

Would it be the same technique for so called laser cut auto locks as I believe they're sliders
@kamakaziozzie3038

There’s no such thing as a perfectly secure lock. When purchasing a lock, you can never assume that. your just trying to buy as much time as possible. That holds true whether it’s a combination Master padlock- or a bank vault. That being said, this lock apparently would buy more time than the average Schlage residential type.

I wish you would go back to more of these types of videos, rather than making essentially the same video every time of some garbage lock that anyone can defeat just so the fanboys can fight over who gets to be the first to comment "one of these days he will open the lock without even touching it" or whatever this time. Let's see you use the tools you sell to defeat a properly impressive lock.
