This is definitely the best sounding 350z exhaust ever, and I'd say the best sounding V6 PERIOD. This exhaust somehow manages to literally make the car sound like a V10... I have no idea how but it's awesome. The only thing wrong with this exhaust is.... it's 1,600 FREAKING DOLLARS.... :(
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 8 лет назад
+The Tameless Creeper Shortly after I bought the exhaust, I had a random guy drive up beside me and ask how much it cost. I told him "$1600," expecting him to be appalled. Instead, he just nodded his head and said, "Well, it sounds like it." That was probably the best compliment he could have given.

@oNAGAo

@robby8214 Thanks! Since I have the ART Pipes and the V2 version of the exhaust, it's not loud at all just cruising. It's just a low, deep rumble. As far as drone, the V2 axle-back section (with the resonance chambers at the back) eliminates pretty much all drone below 4000rpm. I've heard the Shockwave V1 exhaust with test pipes and it's really loud and drones. With my setup, it's absolutely perfect. If you have the money, you should definitely get it.

no those are resonance chambers to help with drone
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 12 лет назад
Just the ART Pipes, yeah, because they replace that section entirely. The MD TDX exhaust, however, is a "Cat-Back" exhaust, and thus doesn't require doing anything with the cats at all.
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 14 лет назад
@350zmane :D Yeah, I absolutely love the sound. Based on the description, I'd say that's the one, even though the picture is wrong. If you call them up, they can make sure you get the right one - they have great customer service, anyway.
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 12 лет назад
@averyh11 I would probably put this setup with the ART Pipes at a comfortably loud 6 or 7. For regular driving, though, it would be closer to a 5. Now that I have added headers, it's probably a solid 8 and pushing the limits of acceptable volume.
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 13 лет назад
@GrabbinSomeHAX They're specially-tuned helmholtz resonated test pipes that basically give you better gains than standard test pipes and sound better than either test pipes or high flow cats. To put it simply.
@350zmane
@350zmane 14 лет назад
That note is perfect... It is slightly deeper than the v1, which is exactly what I am looking for... Thanks for the vid man! You just made my decision. I'm guessing that this is the 'TDX2' on the website. They just don't have the right pic up? The one that have pictured is the v1 version.
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 13 лет назад
@MagnumUniversity Nope. The ART Pipes have specially designed sensor bungs in them that prevent any codes from being thrown. I've been running with them for about a year now and have yet to have a single code thrown. Congrats on the exhaust purchase, btw.

@chriscu69 Hahaha! I'm glad you like it!
@oNAGAo

@3g2000gt I'm assuming you're referring to the Helmholtz resonance chambers. I have them in my ART Pipes in the cat-section as well as in the rear, cat-back section. Both work to interact with the exhaust flow and eliminate unwanted frequencies within the exhaust pulse. The rear ones work to eliminate drone and improve the exhaust note while the ones in the ART Pipes work to do the same, and additionally improve exhaust scavenging, thus improving exhaust flow and performance.

@MagnumUniversity Haha, awesome!

@cbeck611 A combination of ease of installation, cost, and the proven gains. So far, I haven't seen any reliable trend that shows CAIs getting much more usable power than the drop-in filter with the 06' airbox. So I'd be looking at getting *maybe* a couple of extra horsepower for hundreds of dollars more. I seriously considered it multiple times, but ultimately decided it just barely wasn't worth the effort or the cost for me.
@cbeck611
@cbeck611 13 лет назад
@oNAGAo you got me convinced im getting the motordyne thanks for the advice im all for quality i hate the cheap sounding exhausts
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 13 лет назад
@cbeck611 The n1 sounds okay. Way back when I first started looking for an exhaust, I strayed from it because everyone I talked to said (and I agreed) that it sounded very "ricey" and "farty". If you want a loud exhaust that lets everyone in the neighborhood know you're there, the TopSpeed n1 gets that job done well enough. However, the Motordyne sounds, looks, and performs like pure quality. That's sort of hard to describe in words - you have to hear it in person. That's what sold me on it.
@oNAGAo

I have this exhaust and love it too. My only complaint is the tips didn't hold their color for very long. Mine are now more of a dull grey/almost copper color and the shiny blue tips have faded into a dull purply yellow. Still looks nice, but not as bad ass as brand new.
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 13 лет назад
@cbeck611 That's actually a long story, and you can follow it if you want to in some of my other videos. In short, however, I mistakenly took them off because I thought they were causing a drop in power (they weren't at all). I just recently had my short block replaced under warranty, though, and had the headers put back on. So my latest video has this setup with the headers on. Feel free to check it out :)
@MagnumUniversity
@MagnumUniversity 13 лет назад
@oNAGAo well i just added the ART testpipes too :)
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 13 лет назад
@stylett9 That's strange. I had been worrying that mine were losing their color as well, but after I got my car back from the dealership a few weeks ago and they had washed everything nicely, the tips were back to that beautiful deep blue. Not sure exactly what they used that I didn't, but perhaps they just need to be cleaned?
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 14 лет назад
@abarclay21 Thanks! The smell at first was kind of weird as the residue and what not from inside the exhaust burned up. Now, it's back to how it was before. It can get pretty potent if you're standing around the back of it with the car on, but it's nothing unbearable. My wife minds it more than I do :p
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 11 лет назад
With that setup, I'm not sure. There is probably a dyno somewhere that it would have read 300 on, but realistically it was probably between 270 and 290. It all depends on the dynos, and I sadly didn't conduct a before-after test on this one.
@cbeck611
@cbeck611 13 лет назад
@oNAGAo well i wouldnt know cause i have never heard both in person im just going by what i heard on youtube by watching videos im trying to find a good exhaust for my 350z but i dont want to spend 1500 on just a exhaust since you have heard both in person does the n1 exhaust sound good and how much better does the tdx exhaust sound
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 12 лет назад
... Summarizing the above ^^^... the front ones make it sound better, remove rasp, and improve performance. The rear ones just work to remove nasty drone and make it all sound better.

... or actually, now that I think about it... you could just purchase the XYZ pipe with the HFC attachment. Then you wouldn't have to get the entire exhaust. I don't know why I didn't think of that when I wrote the comment. Hope that helps.
@oNAGAo

The whole exhaust is direct bolt on - it comes with the resonators welded on.
@abarclay21

Thanks for the heads up! I just saw your thread on my350. It sounds f'n mean! I'm tempted even more now to switch over to the ART/TDX combo. The clearance of my mid-pipe from the ground is probably only a few inches, and it looks like the TDX would definitely help out (and the sound wouldn't be too bad either). How's the smell so far with the ART pipes?
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 13 лет назад
@robbystinson This was one of the very first ones off the production line, and I paid a whopping $1600 for it. Honestly, though, it was worth every penny. Especially after my run through a long tunnel a couple weeks ago...

type in 350z top speed n1 exhaust its the first video with the blue car and compare it to this exhaust the top speed exhaust only costs 500 not 1600 and it sounds smoother and has a unique sound to it but this is exhaust sounds amazing too dont get me wrong im comparing quality with price

why are you mufflers open too? I've only seen this on your car. aren't they supposed to be all closed like a round tank? if you know what Im talking about haha. I'm about to order the exhaust so i was confused
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 7 лет назад
LilDavidGarcia , They're definitely closed; I think it's just the lighting and the reflection which makes it look that way. Also, this was the first generation of Motordyne TDX V2 exhausts (and one of the very first ones they even sold), and back then, the resonance chambers were capped with flat ends rather than the spherical ones they sell them with today. My understanding is that with version they sell today, the rounded ends make it sound even better... in addition to looking better, in my opinion. Plus you get that cool, laser-etched Motordyne logo on the pipes.
@lildavidgarcia
@lildavidgarcia 7 лет назад
oNAGAo oh okay! Man I was so confused because I saw a site that was selling it and showed your pic from the forum of it lifted on the lift and then it showed the new version of the exhaust with the rounded ends so I was like, are they round or open?? I've been looking for a site or place I can order it from and pick it up so I can avoid paying over $100 for shipping. I agree with you, I like how they look with the rounded ends now. Thank you for getting back to me man.

@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 7 лет назад
dynamic21 They are definitely closed. I think what you are seeing is just the reflection. Bear in mind that this was the first generation of the exhaust, when the helmholtz resonance chambers were capped flat at the end. The newer ones are curved, which probably wouldn't reflect the same way. TL;DR: Definitely closed, my friend.

Is there any cabin drone at all? sounds great otherwise..
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 9 лет назад
Thanks :) There's no cabin drone with the V2 resonance chambers (at the rear), which do an amazing job of canceling out the droning frequencies. However, if you add headers, that may change, depending on your setup (like my new Vortech supercharger, Stillen headers, etc. build which now drones around 3500 rpm).
@DieNacht27
@DieNacht27 10 лет назад
So, I must say that most of the videos I see that are listed as the best sounding 350z exhausts are wayyyy too whinny, and sound even worse at high revs. Yours keeps a really nice deep tone throughout. Nice choice. But I do have to say, you could have saved yourself a little bit of money by doing it yourself. It's fun to get under the car and then you'll always know how to do it. Nice video though

nice car man! 👍🏻 what do you think if this exhaust is paired with berk hfc, will it be louder or quieter?
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 8 лет назад
+Lambert Rodriguez Thanks! It would probably be pretty comparable in volume to the Motordyne ART pipes, from what I understand. The resonance chambers in the ART pipes help to manage the tone much more than your typical straight pipes, bringing them more in line with the sound you'd expect from HFCs. If you have Berk HFCs and are concerned about volume, I don't think you need to be; Berks tend to make everything sound better. I would speculate that it'll probably sound about the same but just a touch quieter.
@lam2hell
@lam2hell 8 лет назад

Lambert Rodriguez I do. Sadly, I haven't had any time to do another video in a long time, but I'm going to try to get another out before winter hits - probably just a mash-up of start-up, revs, cruising, fly-by, etc. without much fancy production. We'll see...

@cbeck611 But let me use story this to help explain: I was cruising around with my wife, minding my own business, when some modded car pulled up next to me at an intersection. The driver asked me how much my exhaust cost. I shrugged and told him it cost me $1600. He looked at the car, nodded, and said, "Well it sounds like it." I'm not sure there's a better compliment than that. Nor a better way of describing how this car sounds. It was worth every penny.

@oNAGAo 10 лет назад
Sadly, no. Not on their own. They're effectively straight pipes. HOWEVER. The Motordyne TDX exhaust is a modular system, and they offer a High-Flow Cat section which is interchangeable with the downstream portion at the end of the XYZ pipe. With that, I believe you should be able to pass emissions despite having the ART Pipes. However, that would obviously mean getting the TDX exhaust, which costs a handsome dollar.
@oNAGAo
@oNAGAo 13 лет назад
@cbeck611 I'm sorry, man, but I know I'm not alone in my personal distaste for the Top Speed n1 exhaust. I've heard numerous setups of both in-person, and I can tell you they barely sound similar. Perhaps you're falling victim to the technical limitations of RU-vid? The Motordyne is much more refined, deeper, and exotic sounding. The Motordyne build quality is on a completely different level and more importantly, the performance gains from the TDX blow the Top Speed n1 out of the water.
