My favorite RU-vid channel. I started watching you right after buying my jk 4 years ago. Since then i’ve started following every other jeep RU-vid channel but... I’m still here !
So great to see some Ram content - absolutely love this truck! New tires seem to work great and definitely slung up an adequate amount of gravel for a killer thumbnail! 😁 Your videography always makes the videos so enjoyable, thanks Jason!
@@AutoEdits Dang! That sucks but I guess it's the price to pay sometimes 😬... I'm thinking of getting a used Ram this year, it would be my first truck after a solid run of Subaru's. Your truck has a lot of great features that make me excited! Always look forward to new content on it - all the best from Ontario Canada 👍
I've been legit stalking them from 2 years ago out at King of the Hammers and it was time. They offer me the confidence/toughness of the Maxxis Razr but the all round performance of the Wildpeak and other than the BFG red white and blue lettering... have a my favorite side wall. So far I'm very happy.
I switched from the MT’s to the ridge grapplers and couldn’t be happier. They’re the quietest tires I have ever owned. They have great snow and ice traction and just work in mud and sand.
I was going to try the ridge grapplers first but they have been backordered for months! Really glad to have these though... don't think I'd want to go any other way.
I’ve got the ridge grapplers too. They do good in the snow and on ice, but they’re not nearly as good as the BFG KO2’s I had on my truck before the Nittos. After these wear out I’ll either go back to the KO2’s or try the Wildpeak AT’s. I’ve hear those two perform similarly, but the Falcons are less expensive.
Japanese based company owned by Japanese based Toyo making tires in the USA. Nice, better than US based companies making tires elsewhere. Awesome performance based o your review, they look awesome too, maybe my next set to replace my Duratracs on my Rebel.
I'm not sure it's necessarily better but encouraging domestic manufacturing is a good thing. More jobs supplied by the manufacturing process than a corporate office.
Same trie setup on my JK love nitto M/Ts. Forever my go to tire! I will say once you start getting into the lower 40% tire life, you'll start to hear more road noise
Nice review of these Nitto tires, I'll have to consider them when tire time comes. I too like to throw my truck around twisty roads, it's oddly satisfying. Keep these fun videos coming.
@@AutoEditsSure you can. You were planning to turning it into an overland camper, then it's a must They're both about the same size and weight, plenty of after market parts. You may be little down on power if you got one with 305 (that's 5.0 Liter for the youngens) Hey, put Pinto on next video.
They may look better to you but those aren’t even in the top 5 for me and weight doesn’t mean anything in a tow rated tire. My super lightweight milestars handle awesome because they are the lightest in the group but not rated to tow like these things.
@@AutoEdits hey, you didn’t have to apologize to... it’s my wife that you need too after all your recommendations 🤣. Jk I always appreciate your passion and honest opinion. Keep it up 🤙
Jason, when I installed my 37" Trail Grapplers several years ago I didn't balance them. They rode smoother than any tire I'd ever run on my Jeep before. They were so perfectly round and balanced that I never got them professionally balanced....and that was with heavy 17" Poison Spyder beadlocks and no balance beads, either! I wanted them when I stepped up to 40s, but they were out of stock everywhere. :(
I too have a '15 Ram 1500 4x4. They now make a Detroit Tru-Trac for the rear end, but its still a limited slip. Can't wait to see what you come up with, Jason.
@@AutoEdits you do "work" the hell out of RAM Johnson. I just did a BDS 4" lift with Fox shocks. Couldn't take mine up to your level since I still park in my garage! Keep up the reviews and tutorials!
It's pretty clear Pinto isn't interested in your Jasper engine (0:40) but only in her ball. She probably didn't help much with the engine swap anyway 😜 Glad you mentioned looks. If it doesn't look cool I'm not driving it no matter how well it performs. Pinto has it all, she looks cool & performs & she's made in the USA! Rock on Pinto.
Jason wow you got a lot of miles out of the Falcons. I know you did at least one Baja Trip and then some with the Falcons. It will not be to long before my 1500 needs new sneakers. So will be highly interested to see how the Nittos work out on wear. Btw does Hungry Valley bring back memories. I grew up in Northridge and Woodland Hills. Back in the day there was no dedicated park. Just go anywhere Frasier, Gorman and so on. One time when out in Mojave Cyn we started at Jaw Bone Cyn to Dove springs to a trail called Sherman Jeep Trail which took us into the Sequoias into Kern I can't remember after that was to long ago. The crazy thing was we drove off road all the way back to the valley with only one crossing over freeway one time. I think it was Pacomia cyn. That was in a Chevy 3/4 Silverado back in the days of white spokers wheels. lol I am now in AZ for the last 13 years.
Yes rear locker baby you know! In that vid talk about the specs of the rear axle if you please. Also how do I get my 2020 hemi to sound as ferocious as your 09??
Still trying to get an apt. at the rear end shop for the locker but the exhaust is easy and a fun home install you can try ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wDrTm2k-i8c.html
Check out Maxxis Razr MT's, the main reason I went with them was that they have a milage warranty and that's unheard of for a MT. They have been a excellent tire
I ran those for a few years on my Jeep and they were really good. These are a bit more refined and better on the highway, which is an important factor for me.
Last set of tires on my JK I was debating between those and the STT Pro's, went with the Coopers because they do a little better in the snow. Now that Cooper may not be made in the USA I might be switching to the Nitto's next time.
There's a clue to which magazine on the seat covers when I start the driving segment! I've pretty much rebuilt the entire drivetrain at this point and agree... it's a great truck!
That really surprised me... the rear end is fairly worn out and it was cool to go back and watch the video of one tire spin and the other almost give up but catch some traction just in time. A locker back there and this truck will be unbelievably good.
Hey Jason! Your ram inspired me to pick up one of my own! Wanted to pick your brain. I know you're running 37s on an older 6speed transmission truck but I'm running an 18' with the 8 speed and 3.21 rear axle ratio. Because of some weird design piece by ZF in their transmission to front dif connections, you can't get aftermarket ratios put into ZF trans trucks like mine. That being said, do you think its a bad idea to throw on a set of the lightest 37s I can find to run on my rig even though it only has 3.21s? Would love your input if you have the time. Love the videos 👍
I like to hear this! Even with how good the 8 speed trans is... 37's on that ratio would be a lug on the low end. Probably fine on road but climbing in 4Lo is where you'd notice.
Where did you find this info on the ZF? I was going to put an 8hp70 in my 06 but I want to be able to regear. Can you share where you got this info please?
Jason I recall you installed your air ride suspension 1st on the Ram and than sometime after did the full upgrade with RCV Performance Products Ultimate IFS CV Front Axles and the entire pallet of Mevotech X Factor components. If this is correct, question. Did you keep the air ride after the latter upgrade?
Still running the air ride and love it. Not only is it great for load leveling for heavy stuff... when I went camping I just disconnected one end of the rear sway bar and used the independent control on the bags to level my tent.
If you ever plan on reupgrading headlights, Morimoto and Alpha Rex make some really good quality products, specially the Morimoto XB’s and Alpha Rex LUXX or Nova series
I have a 2012 ram 1500 that is quite built still missing some items but has nittos trail grappler mts for about 8 months now and Maybe 15k miles still look brand new! And just took it through some deep snow . . . A pass in montana and it had 3.5 feet of snow I put it in 4 hi and she did not slip once it was amazing very much my favorite tire will be buying again. Ps let's see a ton more of ram Johnson please!?!?!
Cool to hear about your truck! Hard to give time to all the cars here and especially hard when this poor truck doesn't get any views on the you tubes. But I love it and have plans for it.
@@AutoEdits your hosting is awsome its probably the misconception of the ifs isn't strong where now days os 10 times better and can rival solid axle 4x4 in many cases but on any account keep pluging on everytome a video comes out for that truck ill be right there to see it!
Hey Jason, I am a big fan of your truck build. I have a 2014 ram that has the bilstein 2.5" level in the front and some heavy duty progressive springs the the rear. It ended up with a 1 inch forward rake, which I like a lot. Is that Icon kit only 2.5" as well of lift? I realize the front bumper makes a difference in tire clearance, but how in the world can you fit 37's on a 2.5 inch lift?
That's the main thing but this truck has been tweaked in a few places... like no inner fender splash shields and some other stuff like that. Go into the truck playlist here on the channel and in the suspension overhaul video I go through it pretty good.
@@AutoEdits Thanks, I've been working my way back through the truck videos paying more attention. Just found where you mention the fender liners. Up here in WA I need to account for a lot more mud, water, and snow on a yearly basis. Not sure I can make the jump to no fender liners.....yet.
I got inspired by your Ram content to modify mine to almost the same setup I have used the Fox 2.0 coilovers but i am not happy with how they perform offroad, it easily bottoms out amd the tires hot the fenders Do you recommend the Icon?
I liked the RZR MT's overall a lot. Fantastic looks and confidence inspiring durability, I felt like I couldn't hurt them. My nitpicky issues are that they are "lumpy" at low speeds don't grip quite as good as these do in the rocks but not by much... Can totally recommend them especially if you like the looks of them.
@AutoEdits Oh, that's bad for us 😅 How about the Icon vehicle dynamics coil overs? Do you recommend for offroading? I have fox 2.0 but theh have bad performance offroad and good onroad
@@NardoGreyRam I don't know about the fox. This truck handled great off road. Have you watched the rest of this video or any of the other videos showing this truck? Plenty of good examples.
@AutoEdits yes sure man, i watched all your Ram content 👌 amazing But i thought you knew about fox vs Icon I will buy Icon then and hopefully it will be better than Fox Thank you
So if you love them so much why didn’t you put them on your wrangler? I went from these on my wrangler to the Miles star Patagonia because of your feedback... Should’ve I stuck with the Nitto Trail grapplers at this point based on your feedback it seems as though I should have?
Hard to tell from this comment but what's going on here? My Jeep still has PatagoniaMTs... Joe's Jeep I built has PatagoniaMTs ... the truck had FalkenMTs and it was time to try something different. I'm not sure what you want from me with "I went from these on my wrangler to the Miles star Patagonia because of your feedback... Should’ve I stuck with the Nitto Trail grapplers at this point based on your feedback it seems as though I should have?" Tires are a wear item... in a few years when these wear down I'll probably try something else! That's part of the fun.
Roger that! I’ve been following your channel for a long time and respect your opinion. That’s why I went with a metal cloak for my lift and love your videos and honest opinions!! Keep up the amazing videos!!!
@@AutoEdits always will be here to support your awesome videos and feedback!!! Thanks for all you do for the Jeep community and automotive RU-vid industry!! You and Pinto ROCK!!! 🤙🏼
@@AutoEdits i would love to see y’all start to Collaborate some video series with other you tubers this truck always excites me to see a full-size on some technical tight trails. Owning a 2016 ram 1500 with lift and wheels I know your feeling some days the jeep is just easier or needed lmao
I used the HP tuners HPI2 unit and one credit on their free software. But I think any of the tuners can do that for you. Makes a difference, I get better mileage without that on.
The newer General offerings look pretty good but I've been eyeing these for a while and for the reasons I mentioned... I NEED extremely strong sidewall protection for this project.
hello, I've been following you for a long time, I wanted to ask you what relationship do you have to the differential? I mount 3.92 with the "37 but I would go to 4.55! advice?
what about getting a set of the milestar like on the Jeep for the truck just to see how they would conpare from the Jeep to Ram Johnson or Nittos for the Jeep same comparison
Great suggestion! What I've learned so far is that the Milestar Patagonia MT's on the Jeep don't have the proper load rating for a half ton truck and towing/hauling duties. So, I would have to go down to 37" on or up to 40" to get that load rating... hmmm... now that's an idea!
I am starting my build on a 2019 Classic 1500. Was wondering what gears are in your truck? do you think 37s are considerably better than 35? any problems with trans temp?
I have 4.56 gears and it's too much. 4.10 would be better. I like the looks of the 37's on this truck and they have performed fantastic in all conditions for me. This thing goes interstate distances with ease and I can smash it on the rocks whenever.
@@AutoEdits Mine still has the factory 3.21s so am going to stay on 35s. re gearing will definitely be in the future. Keep up the great content. Oh you mentioned repainting Johnson, I am a huge fan of the graphics you have, Keep it crazy and different.
There aren't a lot of options for this vehicle... the two most prominent are a lunch box style locker and a true Detroit Locker... the second option is much stronger but also much more expensive. LOL
Awesome videos! Thank you for being detailed. What are your thoughts on running 37x12.5x20 with 3.92s on an 8spd tranny? Also what things should I watch out for? 2017 1500 4wd sport model with 6" BDS coilover lift and UCAs. Any info is appreciated!
Don't tell anyone but these are so good... I'm strongly considering going back down to a 37" Trail Grappler for the Jeep because they performed that good.
@@Mike_E_44 I didn't really build the Jeep for 40's by committing to the UD44 front axle and I'd have to re-gear. I wouldn't mind going that way but just kind of headed down a different path.
@@AutoEdits I’d be getting a pre-runner bumped soon. I’ll probably have to start with 35s and see how everything lined up. I plan on going with the icon stage 5 lift.
They did that back in 2009 for the SEMA show all by hand. I keep meaning to do a little bit of the body repair and painting it back one color but never having the money or energy.
I've been following your channel for a wile now and really appreciate all the great info! Especially your ram truck. I would like to build a ram but not sure whats a better platform... a 1500 with the IFS? or a 2500 Hemi with the solid axles. Ive herd you mention the IFS being a bit of a scare for you at times, worrying about it, But I'm not sure if your upgrades made that stress go away??? I've always bounced back between a jeep jku and a ram 3500 cummins...but neither can do what I need, the Jeep Jku cant haul the family around comfortably, and the Diesel ram just weighs to much to take on serious trails... And I would Love a truck or vehicle that Can tow, haul, overland, and wheel, and be able to use it as a work truck. Could you recommend to me whats the best ram to start with in your opinon? Id like to keep costs down, so new power wagon is outta the question...would like to start with a 2014 and older and build from there. Much appreciated
Most economical way in to the durability you want is the Ram 2500. There are many great companies that make all the suspension stuff you'll ever need for that platform as long as you stay in the 2014 range.
Im stuck between getting 39 inch km3s or the nittos in a 37. Bfg runs small so they’ll measure out roughly the same. What are your thoughts? I had km3s in a 37 and i loved them but I’ve heard these blow them out of the water Help me decide !🙏🏼
KM3s are probably lighter. Usually BFG run lighter, which is good imo for a lot of different reasons such as MPG and it puts less strain on suspension components
I would really like to try the KM3's in a 39" to get first hand experience but from what I've seen with people I've wheeled with... the KM3's rule in the rocks but are not very good in inclement weather like snow/ rain. So there's that compromise again. I haven't taken these in the rain yet so I'll let you know but from my experience so far with the Trail Grappler MT's... I'm fairly confident they will be awesome at all the stuff I need.
I've never done a dedicated "review" of the suspension but it has performed amazing over the years. One of my favorite videos showing off how good it does is this one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GGvByOkRXGM.html
@@AutoEdits really appreciate the reply. I watch that one all the way through to see if you would talk about it but I’m glad you mentioned it. I’ve got an icon stage five for a 14 ram that I’m going to build.
I’m looking at putting a locker in my Ram also. I’ll never understand Why Ram builds a 4x4 with open diffs. I mean....It’s not really a 4x4 then is it!
All good dude, I learn stuff all the time from viewer comments so I'm open to most. Here's something that'll blow you away... look at the front body mount in that same shot in the upper right corner. Watch how much that thing moves. That is all within specification but mind boggling it moves that much.
@@AutoEdits holy crap! that's somehow normal?! haha. Guess that's why a lot of people, myself included, like body on frame vehicles for towing. That has to provide a lot of vibration isolation, but man that looks crazy to see that much movement under off camber/flex
