This is the first episode of a new series on the AutoEdits RU-vid channel called Drive Your Adventures and this one is brought to you by Power Stop Brakes! I'm so happy to share this new video of an EPIC off road adventure into the mountains of Southern California.
I try to tackle the Miller Jeep Trail with the AutoEdit Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 truck on 37" tires and end up getting lost, scratching the heck out of the sides of the truck, breaking a front axle and getting stuck a couple of times on the trail.... making for a very long day out in the wilderness.
Here's a link to the PowerStop brake kit I installed on the Ram:
www.powerstop....
Here's my Instagram page if you would like to check out what I'm doing on a more regular basis!

Hey man! I have to say that I admire the calmness and control that you showed when you got stuck with a possible broken axle and I remember last time I got stuck on my own I stopped filming and set myself to panic mode. It was then after I got out of the situation that I recapped my behavior and felt stupid for not facing the situation with better spirit. Thumbs way UP Jason !

Well thanks so much! I went and checked out your Bronco and that thing is rad. There was a moment when I was winching that I thought about just getting out of there but realized there was nothing life threatening happening and to just enjoy it for what it was. Ended up being a good learning experience! I appreciate the support!!!!

Getting lost, shoveling, stacking rocks, doubling back, and running out of daylight are all things that make it an adventure! Next video.... WINCH INSTALL!!!

It was a good time overall. The winch is going to be tricky on this because of that bumper but we'll make it happen at some point.

Rear locker next. Nice work with the high lift though, i stopped carrying one because of the weight and I have a winch and a jack but I might have to add it back in to my gear.

This reminds me of my old job. I used to update GIS maps, think google map cars without the 360 cameras, for Tribal governments. We would go out and drive and inventory all the roads within the reservations. A lot of them were mountains roads not open to the public and were not well maintained. This led to a lot of great exploration, adventures, and problem solving. Somedays i couldnt believe i was getting paid to do what i did. Those were the days, thanks for sharing.

I suffered a head trauma, back in 05, and rehabbed my body and emotions off roading in the Vulture Mountains near Wickenburg Arizona. Like you I just went wherever the turn took me. Believe it or not it was the holy-crap moments like the one you went through in this episode that helped me the most. Thanks for sharing.

Jason, I enjoy all of your videos, but this one is very special. Despite the wrong turn and the challenges that came with it, you pushed on, kept the cameras rolling, were not ashamed of defeat and didn't hide any of it. I have had numerous adventures like this that start with a goal and end with limping home, but hey you did it. Got your beast of truck in the deep, broken and battered, got it out with just the tools you brought along, still camped the night, and still made a great video for your viewers. But now I don't know if you should attempt it again in the Truck so the truck is undefeated. Or just use the Jeep, they call them Jeep trails for a reason haha

Some sway bar discos could make all the difference in the world for articulation and in turn traction... not sure how it goes on a full size rig but its like night and day disconnecting the front sway bar (and deleting the rear all together) on my little old jeep. Lockers too!! Great video

If the truck is at OEM height and you are using 37's..install some better shocks, use the Bilstein 5100 adjustable and set them to 2.1 or 2.8 setting and install a 3/4" or 1 inch rear spacer for back coil springs this will give you 2.5 inches of lift all around. The 5100 are popular and work well. You will also get better ride and rebound with Bilstein over the lousy OEM shocks. Also service the axles fluid and the trans fluid/filter..

As a person who has done a extensive amounts of off roading, most people just don’t realize how much more difficult it is traveling these trails in a full sized rig, even with a good winch. I have use them all IE...feet/hiking, dirt bikes, quads, lifted VW BAJA bug, cars, SUVs, jeeps, FJ and all kinds of pickups from Rangers to Raptors including 1500, 2500, 3500, F450, f550s, clear up to full sized diesel trucks when logging and the smaller and lighter the rig the better it is on the trails. Hell, I’ve had a 20 year plus old cobbled together VW Baja bug and a beat up lifted Ranger 4x4 V6 with 150k miles do better than most and on trails a lot worse than theses.

Just an FYI that trail last burnt over ten years ago. And the forest service doesn’t maintain it, the local off road clubs like Point Mugu 4x4, Axlesnappers, Frazier park 4x4, and others do all the trail maintenance. Another reason to never wheel alone.

Hadn't seen this series till now, I think it's a great idea! I always enjoy your Jeep videos, this one was terrific as well. At the start of this video I was like "yeah, I wanna get a fullsize!" then halfway through it I was like "nah, you don't want a fullsize" haha. First time I've seen this truck and action and it was impressive for an open diff, IFS rig...up until the breakage anyway, but that as somewhat expected I bet. That Hemi sure sounds mean, too! I really appreciated this video. I watched another of yours where I think you busted a muffler out in Death Valley and had to remove it. Watching you handle adversity (although I wouldn’t wish it upon you) is actually more educational and therefore useful. Particularly for someone like he who is just starting out in overlanding. I was given a cool recipe from a fellow off-roading junkie you may like for any situation, and after coffee. Boil one bottle of water worth in a pot with beef jerky, some garlic seasoning, and something spicy, after boiling covered for a couple minutes, add two packs of ramen noodles and their seasoning without a cover until noodles are soft. Dish up in a bowl and you are good for 12 hours. I’ve tried it countless times and it works every time regardless of what I’m doing. I even do it at home for fun.

Been waiting for this video :) And I have totally been there exploring on my own, take a wrong turn, have to back track. It sucks, but is at the same time fun. Great video!

What an awesome adventure, love this new series! Glad you made it out okay , and I'll admit I was pretty nervous watching! Maybe take a buddy next time? By the way, tons of super picturesque shots. That truck looks awesome on the trail

19:55 this is why I say rock sliders are one of the most important mods for off-roading! Even more important than lift! Rear locker, sliders, then lift and tires, but only enough lift for the tires you want!

Looking forward to seeing you conquer the Miller Jeep trail... in an actual Jeep!

Rocker panels looking beat up. Should do some rock sliders next on truck:) Kind of thinking of getting a Ram 1500 and sell my Jeep.

I really love this truck. It is a much better long road trip vehicle but not designed for tight trails like this so it's all about compromise.

Awesome road trip I know it didn’t turn out the way you wanted but sometimes you learn a lot from trips like this one. Definitely get those front axles repaired. I think it would have been easier in the Jeep. But nice to see you take the truck.

Very cool video. I think you should name that go pro "halfshaft". I got anxious when you were lost. Almost like watching a horror flick.

You should really consider running those wildpeak tires on your Jeep. I've been for a little over a year now and can report they have out performed any other tire I've ever used. Our trails are heavily mudded with deep ruts and severe off cambers. We have several large rock obstacles all slick sandstone I've been extremely impressed with the tires

I do love the Falken tires but on my last trip in the Jeep, Maxxis was a sponsor and offered tires so I tried them and like them... not as much as my Falkens!

looks like that new hemi is running great! look into getting a catch can for it. you'd be surprised how much oil it stops from going into the intake

Hit me up when you want to do some trail's in norcal. I have a ram as well I did signal peak the (harder way)gold lake and bowman lake this summer with my 2 year old son. I'm building up my truck to hit rubicon by next summer
