This fun little design is a better way for me to hold the quick change tools for my South Bend metal lathe. Hopefully my "junk shelf" can stay this clean!! If you'd like me to print you some, $10 a pair shipped within the US, email me to place an order!

Sir I just spent a lot of time watching videos of tool organization for my lathe setup and yours was the most inspiring and clever. Thank you!

I made something similar, but I just bought a piece of plastic about 1/2" thick and 1.5" wide, and made them out of that. I set the bandsaw at 30 degrees, cut the first one, diddled with the length while I set the stop, and then cut, flip, cut, flip. Then drilled a couple holes. I made eight of them in about an hour. So if you don't have a 3-d printer, that's another way to skin that cat.

Very cool. I have the BXA holders so I took your design and changed the dimensions to fit BXA. I’ll upload it to thingiverse tomorrow.

I don't use this kind of tool holders but you have sure inspired me to do something with all my lathe crap that sits on drawers or dirty places. Machinists nightmares! Thanks!!

It just collects everywhere doesn’t it? Good luck and thanks for watching!

You should print these with the holes oriented vertically, the way you printed these means they are more likely to split and crack when you tighten down the screws.

Maybe also use counterbored holes and pan head screws and put the layers into compression? Cool stuff

But, but, but, what are you going to do when you get 20 more tool holders. :-) Actually a very good idea and probably the best thing I've seen done with a 3D printer so far.

At some point I'll probably run out of shelf space hahah! Thanks for watching Lee!

Looks so much tidier. Great use for the 3d printer. Regards MachineNZ

You can slow your part cooling fan down in your slicer, usually setting it to 0 for the first layer works well then maybe 50% or so from the 2nd layer on

Thanks, I was just thinking about a away to store my holders. My shelf looks just like yours did. Catch all.T his will be my first 3d printer project.

The only improvement that I can see is to place a bevel on the leading edge to aid in replacing a used tool.

Careful with that tape over the hotend fan. Too little cooling of the hotend heatsink can cause heatcreep = melted plastic in your entire hotend that gums up and solidifies. It's awful to try and clean out. :) There's several better fan shrouds on thingiverse, just do a search for Anet E10 fan shroud!

I've been keeping an eye on it, thankfully no issues (other than it heats up in just a minute or so instead of 20+!!) but its very worth being aware of!

Can't you set your fans speed? I though the firmware did allow for it.

what size holders do these fit? AXA? I made something a little different to hold mine. Used 12” lengths of Aluminum and machined dovetales on either sides, then screwed them vertically on a wallboard in columns. The tool holders slide on from the top and stack on top of one another. there is a shelf at the bottom to support them all at the bases of the aluminum dovetail columns.

Great video, what is the angle of the dovetail?

I wish my A8 could print like so. It prints just garbage and now the bolt/tube through which the filament goes is broken in half. And i cant do anything with it. Chinese steel is so bad.. A bit of over tighten and it breaks in half. Waiting for my mini lathe and have to make new bolt. I tried to make new.. ..drill M6 bolt with bench drill but it doesn't come out very well.

Isn't it some corollary of entropy that all horizontal surfaces "attract crap"... Shelves, table tops, table saw... and the floor... in every room :)

It’s like how aluminum will instantaneously oxidize, clean surfaces will very quickly start gathering stuff on them! 😂 thanks for watching!!

thingiverse has changed their site around over the last few months so I double checked the URL, it doesn't seem to have changed but here's what is working for me as of right now: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2815044 Their servers have been notoriously slow lately so I wouldn't be surprised if it were an issue on their end. If you're still having trouble e-mail me at practicalrenaissance@gmail.com and I can send you the .stl!
