All four great points, Especially when it comes to dating. Fellas, as a 30 year old now things didn’t start to click for me until 25 partly because I wasn’t putting myself out there, being assertive, learning game and willing to fail so I could learn from my mistakes. I was waiting for things to happen rather then taking action myself. Dating when you’re older does actually get easier for men because we care more for ourselves, have more personality and experiences to share etc…

I’m 26 on the verge of 27. Having watched my roomate commit suicide, my old girlfriend die in a car crash, and my uncle get a stroke all in a matter of a month, it made me realize that life is truly like a vapor. This might even be the last thing I write for all I know. Knowing that makes me realize that for all my ambitions, I’m still going to die. I can’t wait for contentment for when I’m more “successful,” more disciplined, or more fit. Being productive is awesome, but I found myself getting caught up in it to the point that any second I wasn’t improving, I felt like a failure. I realized that taking a moment to give back, help others, and smell the flowers was, in and of itself, improvement. Finding God and higher meaning has made me live a much more fulfilling life than constantly trying to run the rat race. Of course, I’m not saying to not seek self-improvement. Just don’t do it at the cost of the now.

Turning 25 this year, and I'm finally beginning to embrace the 'student' phase you mentioned. My early 20s were full of anxiety and self doubt, which led to depressive thoughts, but recently a switch kinda flipped, and now I think I understand that it isn't too late to start learning and manifesting change and progress towards goals. So now, I'm returning to some projects and studying that I had recently fell off of. Your vids always help me reflect on these kinds of topics and ideas, Cap. Here's another one, out of my own pseudo-religous texts: Hávamál; Stanza 47 "I was once young, I was journeying alone, and lost my way; rich I thought myself, when I met another. Man is the joy of man" Never go through life alone. It is a heavy burden. You should always try to make friends and take joy in what you can but never over-indulge as well.

The part about the parents is so true. Sometimes its easier said than done however and takes certain work. My parents weren't amazing at raising me and had a lot of their own emotional issues they hadn't dealt with and took it out on my sister and I growing up. For a long time I resented both of them, but through going to therapy I learned to forgive them for the past and be more empathic for them as human beings and not as just my parents. It took a while but through this forgiveness I was able to get closer to both of my parents, especially my mom. One day I was hanging out with her and after we said our goodbyes and love yous I thought to myself "wow I finally love my mom", she died two days later. I had always loved my mom but it was never without the resent till that day. I miss her all the time and it pains me to see other people my age(22) having bad relationships with their parents that can be fixed through empathy and forgiveness. Thank you for you videos man, my last 4 years have gone by uselessly like the wind due to me having to struggle with chronic fatigue and headaches. I'm trying my hardest to work through it and to fix it through getting healthier physically and emotionally. I'm still not the most productive person because of my tiredness but you give me a model of where I want to be and how I can achieve it.

What did you tell therapist that you want therapy for?i am kinda embarrassed to go into therapy.
@rockyino99
@rockyino99 2 года назад
@@PookieNarc119 well, you start off by telling them about the ins and outs of your depression and anxieties. How badly you want or dont want to die, how little motivation you may have, how scared you are of social situations. They usually ask a lot of questions to start off getting to know you. From their they explore your mind deeper, figuring out why thought patterns are the way they are and how to fix them. I told my therapist all about my suicidal thoughts and anxieties, from there we searched into my past as to why I felt that why. Alot of it had to do with my upbringing and dealing with my "inner child", meaning the kid I used to be didnt get told he was loved or valued and needed to hear it some where. At first I withheld some information from my therapist, stuff I was super embarassed about and told myself I would tell nobody about it. After reading a book about chronic illness saying that it could be mental problems masking themselves as physical ones I decided to open up. I ended writing a 6 page paper detailing everything I hadnt told her and was ashamed of. She said everything I told her was normal and nothing to be ashamed of. The biggest thing with therapy is to just be honest about everything they ask. You may not find a good therapist at first so dont mind switching if you have to. I was lucky enough to get a great therapist for my first one

I've just turned 20 and I never feel so overwhelmed my entire life until now, there are so many paths that I can take to the point that I can't make a decisive step. I have been feeling so much pressure -peer and existensial- lately. I feel like giving up. There are a lot of things that I regret like things I haven't done when I was younger. There is a lot that's going through inside me such as remorse, overthinking, and envy. I'm kinda relieved that I'm not the only one who's experiencing this

@lucaimeneo6202
@lucaimeneo6202 2 года назад
I can relate a lot, it used to be exactly like that for me at the end of high school, I felt so much remorse looking back and there were so many possibilities for my future and so little guidance on what was the "right" thing to do. However, I do believe that if you just think a bit and pick one path and start walking down it, no matter which one you picked, that's still going to be so much better than not choosing anything at all. No individual choice is worse than not choosing at all, so you might as well pick one even if you're not fully sure about it and go for it. You'll learn along the way if you like it or not and you'll be able to consciously adjust your path along the way. There's great videos from J.Peterson on RU-vid about that, I recommend you should watch a couple. Also, maybe you messed up in your past. Maybe you truly did and maybe doing things differently would have been just strictly better and you will never have a chance to truly make up for that. But even then, it's better to try to learn something from it and move on than to mess up even further due to indecision. These are just my 2 cent, it took me a while to get to those conclusions and I hope they might be helpful or at least thought-provoking for you. Best of luck

@Slavolko 2 года назад
@@tyrantula767 I think you've spooked me away from programming, more than anything. The most I could stomach is a Bachelor's degree, not a Masters or PhD. My previous schedule had me doing programming as a minor, and since I've been struggling with the major, I've been looking to see how programming has been for other people. I already know the basics of web development because I've done it in my spare time. My programming course on the side of my major has had me learning C++. I picked it up pretty well, but I can see how it's only going to get harder from here. Classes were one thing that was quite hard for me to get a handle on, in the context of my course. Thanks for the comments, I'll keep them in mind. My plans are in flux at the moment, but it's nice to hear how others are are handling their chosen majors.
@tyrantula767
@tyrantula767 2 года назад
@@Slavolko It’s mainly the more complicated coding fields that require graduate degree like Machine Learning or Data Science. Theoretically speaking, you could use what know to land a job in web development and be getting paid while gaining experience. Then, while imployed, you could be learning more languages and technologies. That way, you can move into a more complex coding career and your experience as a web dev will count to the recruiters more than a degree, because it shows that you have industry experience coding. C++ is one of the harder languages to learn, so kudos to you. I only know Python at the moment and am learning html, css, JavaScript, MySQL, and php. Once I get a coding job, I may learn java or c# to get a higher paying software engineering job because many of the corporations that offer high wages for software engineers use languages like java and c# for their back end infrastructure.
@Slavolko
@Slavolko 2 года назад
@@tyrantula767 Well hopefully that means I wouldn't need anything more than a Bachelors for normal degrees like IT or CS. Not even sure what IT is, but it seems like the thing all the non-tech savvy people swarm towards. Machine learning is cool to use, but I don't want to be the one developing it. I don't know where I'd be able to land a job with my current basic web dev skills, besides small gigs online. Frankly I don't trust myself to make a website for someone else because of the difficulties I've encountered with my own work. Javascript libraries and all that. Regardless, good luck with your learning and career prospects.

I disagree with the college point. When I started my undergrad, I was unsure of what direction I wanted to go in life. So I forced myself to think and explore. By my third year, I realized that I really liked my learning about literature, debating and discussing theory, and writing. So I was really enjoying my educational experience as a business/English major. I also realized that I wanted to go to law school. Fast forward about 3 years later, and now I’m in my last year of law school, and have a post-graduation job secured. I’ll graduate as a 25 year old lawyer, and will start making really good money. I’ll be well above the 10 percent of people in the US you were talking about. So, for me, school and study was my ticket to financial freedom/success, and im only 25. And no, I got academic scholarships all throughout my undergrad and law school so I don’t have any student debt.

I agree, I think this example works well pertaining to himself and other creatives. For example, he always wanted to be in the entertainment industry so I believe this advice is perfect for people who feel the same way. However for those of us that are intrigued by the corporate world this advice doesn’t really apply. I only agree with points 2 and 4 fully(partially point 1). I partially agree with part 1 only in the sense that as a man your “true value” starts to occur at 25 so you shouldn’t really feel bad or beat yourself up about not being “superman” at 23 e.g. about no having a job or a car or not getting the type of girls you’re interested in. At this point in like up (20-25) you should be working on yourself. I agree with point 2 because I feel the world is evolving before our eyes and we shouldn’t allow the world to evolve without us. Point 4 is something I’m beginning to realise, your parents aren’t here forever and one should take active steps to consciously spend time with their parents as not only may they pick up on certain wisdom but they will also receive good advice and great company(depending on the relationship with ones parents)

I envy kids who have been raised in a household where you didn't have to worry about how you'd make rent or whether you'd have anything for the next meal. Ideally these are stuff parents take care for you. I guess it'd be unfair to blame a single mum with mental health problems, instead be grateful for what I had. Nevertheless, it did mean that the entire responsibility of my mom and my 2 younger sisters were on my shoulders from the age of 6 and because of that I've lost some very important years of my life. I've finally been able fulfil my dream of going to university to study computer science but at the age of 25. I'd say I'm about 5 years late but quite grateful to just be alive and achieve the stability I have in my life now. I guess no matter how difficult your situation becomes there's always someone who has it worse.

Never commented on one of your vids before but I thought I’d add my voice to the choir- as a woman in my early 20s this really got me thinking about how our priorities really differ based on gender… as a man, it’s ok for you to wait till your late 20s to find a date as that’s (mostly) when you’re in your prime. But as a woman, there’s definitely a lot of pressure to find a date/partner as you won’t look this good again ever in your life. Looks aren’t everything but I feel like life as a woman is a lot more on a biological clock than a mans. Just got me thinking and wondering how to apply your idea of being a student until 25 to my life. I feel a lot of stress, but maybe it’s self inflicted?
@CaptainSinbad
@CaptainSinbad 2 года назад

The point about meaningful conversations with parents particularly resonated with me. I enjoy spending time in the presence of my parents even when we’re not talking. I’ve tried to have meaningful conversations with my parents and my dad tends to be more receptive than my mum. I think part of the issue is my parents are also somewhat happy with how things are and just chilling so they never initiate those conversations either.

In my late 20s but I still think I can make the change. I'm still young but part of passing your mid 20s is realizing that, for the first time, you won't be young forever. I was gloomy at first, thinking "this isn't where I thought I would be 10 years ago, it's too late", then 2020 hit and with mortality following us at every step, coupled with the world seemingly falling apart, I realized no one else is going to give me the life I want, I have to go build it myself. It's never too late. It certainly is harder as you get older, but it's never too late. The old saying still holds: the best time to start was yesterday, the second best time to start is today.

Amazing how much I agree with this. I'm 37 and since ditching the starving artist thing at 27 (being an ESL teacher getting paid crap money and a musician with no following) I went back to uni and studied psychology and ended up getting in to data analytics (doing a Masters full-time) and then became a product manager. I can say that the wind behind your sails of a successful career enables you to invest more in your hobbies and makes you more attractive. I would say that you can date in your early 20s but I was too emotionally damaged at the time to have the confidence (women were interested but I didn't let myself see it). When I started to do better for myself, I learned to believe in myself. I now make music in my free time and have a satisfying job. I think there is something to hitting bottom in your early 20s. You need to be poor to learn to be hungry. You need to go on adventures that give you the highs and the lows. I travelled 30 countries and learned Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. I don't regret that at all. I think it's about pushing the boundaries of what you think is possible so you can figure out who you really are. But the road less travelled can be a painful road. I could have used this video at 18 to avoid having to find these things out the hard way.
