Everyone feels great. Until they don't anymore. If you take good care of your health you can stave off a lot of issues. If you don't take care of your health and ever go to the doctor, you are going to be in for a very unpleasant surprise somewhere down the road. The fact is is that we are all going to die. It's how we are going to live until then that matters. Do I want 20 years of good health at the end of my life or 20 years of slogging misery? There are no guarantees even if you take stellar care of yourself. There are too many factors out of our control to guarantee never needing medical intervention. I used to be a person who tried to stay away from medication as much as possible. Now I have a chronic condition, that I must take medication for. Or die much younger. Or live a horrible life until I die. Modern health is a dance between genetics, environmental factors, lifestyle and health choices including medical care. If medical care can be a positive tool in your toolbox against all the negatives, it should be used.

@pkendlers
@pkendlers Год назад
What most people don't realize, and probably should be taught for a very young age, is that you are the best advocate for your health and safety. If you don't feel comfortable with the doctor you have, put the sweat equity in and find another. It's just like getting stuck with a bad employer. It sucks, and you have to make the effort to move on. Don't sit on your backside and just take it. And do the work to preserve your health. You've got no one but yourself to blame if you don't get the care you want, and the health you want. Of course, there are circumstances and health issues that are beyond us, our control. But you need to do the work to make sure that those times are limited in your life.

Yes, more easily said than done. Try finding a really competent GP. Mine retired after 35 years...we were like brothers. Every MD I've seen since knows less than I do about medicine. All they're interested in is the $ apptment and the script which probably won't help anyway because the diagnosis is WRONG. Heres the real problem...we're treating symptoms not causes.

Yes ask your female Dr., my male Dr said “it’s probably menopause” and to “learn to deal with it” (I’m 42 and none of my symptoms were even related to that), turns out it was an allergic reaction to Bactrim antibiotic. He’s not the first to dismiss me 1. Kidney stones were said to be my hormones 2. UTI diagnosis was actually kidney stones and was given antibiotics with just listing symptoms (no tests). 3. Sweating at night and constipation was actually a drinking habit said to be menopause again, by a different male Dr. My last male Dr.’s wife even goes to a female Dr citing “he doesn’t get it”. :/

I know the problem is in my gut primarily, but also coupled with a strong family history of autoimmune diseases. Sadly I'm stuck with chronic gut inflammation due to SIBO. I had most of my ileum, my ileocaecal valve & caecum + a limited R hemicolectomy secondary to a late diagnosed intussusception which turned into a necrotic gut before it was finally diagnosed. I can never clear SIBO with that missing valve. Drs say intermittent antibiotics but that just creates its own microbiome problems. I do what I can with a good diet but it hasn't stopped nutrient deficiences, malabsorption which in turn I'm sure is what has lead to hypothyroidism, hyperparathyroidism, raynauds (which I always had but has worsened) a geographic tongue (which used to be present only occasionally) but is now chronically raw & inflamed & adrenal fatigue, which I'm not sure if that is autoimmune or as a consequence of having to earn a living & battling through ADLs when I feel like death warmed up. I wish it was possible to have that valve replaced like you can replace joints.

Each time I was awoken in the early morning hours of the night. Went to have a ECG two days later but it was clear. This also occurred several years ago on several occasions. Doctors don’t know why. United kingdom - Have you ever experienced extreme stress or anxiety? It’s possible to have panic attacks during sleep. I suffer with social anxiety and deal with panic attacks at times. A panic attack can have the EXACT same symptoms as a heart attack. I recently had a panic attack that woke me up from sound sleep and I thought I was dying.

You do a lot of good work, but recommending people go for a yearly exam by a doctor is generally not good advice. Frankly, most doctors in the modern era are truly incompetent and do more harm than good. One week of cardio caths respiratory tests, vein evaluations. But three years later, after qualifying medically, can't pass financial so they won't list him. So the F what? It would be really nice to be able to go to the doctor now and get treated for our illnesses but unfortunately the doctors just look at us as dollar signs now and just prescribe us pills for things that aren't even wrong with us. Example of this would be the current Adderall shortage. People who actually have the horrible illness were and probably still are suffering and a lot of them can't even take care of their kids. Be your own best health advocate. Stand up for what you feel. You don't have to take handfuls of medication. You have a choice of seeking alternate therapies. Be aware that the choices you make will impact your health, whether you take a drug and suffer side effects. Or don't take a drug and instead change diet and exercise, or maybe do all three, for example. You have to do the work. You cannot rely on an overburdened system to treat you like you are their newborn infant child. Medical care workers for the most part have your best interest at heart, but you are one of thousands that they see each year.

The medications that my husband's doctor put him on years ago for diabetes CAUSED his ED. Viagra CAUSED worse side affects than his diabetes meds. So, he needs those medications in order to keep his blood levels where they belong in order for him not to develop other more serious problems. He is also on medications for Paripheral Neuropathy and Parkinson's. ED is the last in line with all these other health issues. We put more of the focus on keeping those health issues under control. Some things are more important than a hard on...
