Thanks Bro. The new equipment makes keeping the shot wide and steady a LOT easier. Lack of wind noise is an added boost (when I remember to turn the mic on that is). I enjoy recording fishing too, so I win either way :)

This question is surprisingly hard for me to answer because I don't know what type of fishing you plan on doing. December is back to rockfishing locally and the occasional Yellowtail. Yes, they do provide rental gear, but if you have the ability to bring your own reel I'd do so. The rods are fine, but the reels take a beating. Bring a reel spooled with about 150-200 yards of 40LB braid and you should have most bases covered.

I'm sure there are many factors, but it could have just been a barely hooked fish too. My two cents is this: if you're using a fast action rod, combined with braided line (limited to no stretch) and fluorocarbon top shot (limited to no stretch) you don't leave much room for error as there is no shock absorber in the equation. I prefer a long mono topshot when fishing for Yellowtail
