Welcome to Schony747 trains on Wednesday.
The 6th of June 2020 saw former V/Line Passenger Diesel Locomotive A60 named Sir Harold Clapp make it's first mainline run in over 7 years! The mainline run was an un powered or dead attached run from Dynon in Melbourne to The Seymour Railway Heritage Centre as A60 officially entered preservation.
The last run for A60 was on April 26th 2020 when morning commuter service from Bacchus Marsh arrived at Southern Cross Station Melbourne. The locomotive has been stored at various locations since. Both A60 and A62 were offered up for preservation by Victrack - Seymour Railway Heritage Centre was successful in obtaining A60 and 707 Operations were successful in obtaining A62.
This video follows the transfer between Melbourne and Seymour at a few locations along the North East Line as A60 makes it's way into preservation. Information screens are provided throughout the presentation. Two highlights from the day - The Melbourne consist from Seymour included Victorian Railways Livery X31 which was long end leading with S303 and V/Line Passenger N463. Returning to Seymour V/Line Passenger leading The SRHC Passenger Cars and Diesel Locomotive A60 dead attached in the middle of the consist.
Planes on Friday and Trams on Saturday. Have a great Wednesday -Brenden S.

Amazing! Spewing I missed seeing it. The As are definitely one of the finest looking and sounding locos.

Great video. Hope they transfer it to standard gauge so it can roam further a field otherwise it will spend the majority of it's life working for Qube on the Maryvale run.

SG would be great actually! Something different up front.

@@Schony747 What would be awesome is that A60 on SG painted up in VR colours hooked up to " BIG GEORGE " powering along together with decent tonnage up the Adelaide Hills. Imagine the sight & noise. Both of them are noisy loco's

@@louiskats5116 not sure what to think about that. As someone who lives near the Pakenham/Cranbourne line, I have really missed seeing A's running on the Maryvale. I would love to see A60 running the Maryvale (or maybe even the Dandy cement), but I suppose converting it to SG could make it interesting

what is your choice of livery for A60 VR or V/line grey orange i want them to paint in in V/line orange because that is what they were delivered in so it will make sense to paint it back into its original V/line grey orange colors.
@Schony747
@Schony747 4 года назад
I actually like the current burgundy V/Line Passenger livery that it still displays. Much better than the orange in my opinion.

I came here to ask the same thing. As it never wore VR colours as an A class, I feel it shouldn't wear them now. I feel the same about the SHRC P class as well, I think they should both be in grey and orange.

Any idea what PN are going to do with there A Class. Definitely not going to sell them to Qube or SSR that's for sure. Didn't they cut some up in Geelong couple of year's ago ?
@Schony747
@Schony747 4 года назад
A78 is the only one left. It's basically in pieces at Bendigo. The rest of the PN fleet has been scrapped.

@@Schony747 Whilst I drive down Footscray Rd in my Prime Mover, as I top the bridge on Footscray rd you get a direct view towards the roundhouse between Footscray Rd & Dynon Rd. Just today I think I counted 2 or 3 A Class loco's with tarps over them where the radiator fans are. Still in the old green & gold colours of Freight Victoria.

Was the loco in the middle of the consist different to the loco seen in the first run-by when it was between two other locos? It appeared to have a single end in the first run-by and was most definitely double ended in the return journey shots... If so What locos were they and #@ Are these available as HO scale models...especially the single end variety?
@mabiorcholappreciationpage
@mabiorcholappreciationpage 4 года назад
The locomotive sandwiched between the other two locomotives is former Victorian Railways S Class Locomotive S303 (Single-ended EMD A7). The locomotive in the middle consist in the other shot is former V/Line A Class Locomotive A60 (Rebuilt from a double-ended EMD ML2 known as B60). Auscision Models sell HO Scale A Class locomotives in that exact V/Line livery that A60 wears (along with sister unit A70). Trainorama sell HO Scale S Class locomotives, but just not in the Victorian Railways livery that S303 wears (they sell S Class locomotives wearing West Coast Railway livery).

Funnily enough even though A70 is stored for parts A60 is in worse condition than A70. It’s just that A60 has huge historical significance
