I really want to thank you. You set me in the right direction with my issue I've been trying to figure out with a brand new trans. Working with a LS swap GBody with a 4l65e , car randomly started having issues shifting so I did the whole multiple solenoid change and still no fix. Thought it might be the brake switch, nope. So now at this point I'm ready to switch to the 4l80 just wasn't ready. Got on the TUBE did a lot of research, cane across this vid and was like it CAN'T be that easy no way so I didn't pull them immediately. Ended up pulling them right before work just for kicks and not one was blown. "I knew it couldn't be that easy" I said to myself, cold stared the beast, warmed her up and proceeded to work. Pulling out of my neighborhood and felt it KICK into 2nd, "WAIT WHAT" get down to the stoplight and felt it downshift "WAIT WHAT". Finally get to the highway and felt the first 3 gears change, thought aw man no lock-up 😔...... get to cruising speed and clunk goes up shift to 4th. Boy was I ecstatic, I mean so much so I had to write this comment. Side note none of my fuses were blown after I pulled them 1 by 1 on my painless performance ls swap fuse box. THANKS AGAIN..... AND REMEMBER CHECK YOUR FUSES.
Man, I want to thank you for posting this video. I just spent over 500$ in parts and labor to change all the solenoids(didn't want the other ones to fail a week later when it's so hard to get to) and nothing happened. This mechanic I had work on it, ase certified mind you (should have his certification pulled) never checked something as simple as the fuses. Just dived elbows deep in the tranny cause he knew that's where the labor cost would come in. I watched this video this morning, and decided to try it. 1 15a fuse, this entire time. So again, thank you.
Did you have 1st 2nd and 3rd gear but no reverse? I have 1st skips 2nd and goes directly to 3rd after a few minutes and no reverse? What could that be?
@DGOUTDOORS01 you ever figure it out? I have all gears and they change smoothly and never have a problem with it, besides reverse it has no bite at all
People this guy is correct, look for the trans solenoid fuse and replace with the correct number before doing anything else. Even if the fuse is not blown replace with new.
I agree on changing the fuse even if it's not blown. I had a situation where my cigarette/USB connection inside the truck was not working. I tested the fuse several times and it always tested good. I gave up on it for several years. It wasn't until a coworker told me to just swap out the fuse with a brand new one. It finally worked with a brand new fuse.
Gotta love Chevrolet fifdeen hunrentbuk and he got a 2006 4 door 4x4 blacked and chrome pickup truck due to there being a bad fuse. BEST RESALE VALUE ON THE MARKET
This saved me this weekend on my 08. T-case actuator toasted, but in the process took out the Trans-Ign Fuse with it as collateral damage. Trans went into limp mode and I only had 3rd gear and reverse. New fuse and transfer case actuator ($175) dollars later, everything was back to normal. I initially thought solenoids or worse too.
Oh my gosh!!!! I was ready to do all that work until I ran across your video... I am going to check my fuses 1st for now on when the (cel)check engine light comes on. Thanks so much for the info. 👍Common sense says you always check the fuses first but we always think the worse when things happen. 😁 You're the best, guy!
Thank you for saying check your fuses I was just about to pay $3000 and I went outside and I checked my fuses and it was a fuse so I just wanted to say thank you very much for this video
I put three injectors from a scrap yard in my 1986 cavalier because it has a blown ecm fuse. Car sat for 18 months. Lesson learned. Fuse panel is my first stop.
Have a 2004 Silverado 1500. Would not go into reverse, but all other gears worked. Noticed that the radio was not working either. After taking out the radio fuse and re-seating it, the radio works and reverse works as well. Wouldn't have though that would have fixed it, but it did.
Just bought a 2007 Silverado 3500 with 165k KMs with a 4l80e and it was showing p2761, p0758 and p0753 codes. Had a look at the fuses and the btsi fuse was OK but it turned out the Ign0 fuse was missing. Put the fuse in and cleared the codes and the truck is out of limp mode and shifts perfectly.
My 2004 gmc Yukon xl was having hard shifts from 1 to second and the rest would shift smooth. Changed the btsi fuse 10amp and test drove it did a few test and it seems to fixed the problem .
I got my van for 500. no first gear and i dont think it shifts past 3rd. I am going check this right now LOL. you may have saved me a lot of effort. . will update either way.
BTSI 10 amps. Check connector at the transmission too. 4L80Es are tough, so less likely the 2 solenoids. You may have to wiggle all fuses, unplug and plug all connectors, check the 4 or 5 super important negative grounds, battery to body, battery to frame.
What is the 4 & 5. You said to check the 4 & 5. My son worked 2 jobs, saved up & bought a used 04 Chev Silverado for 7k. (4L80-E) Less than a month later transmission is slipping. P0894 code. Fuse is good.
@@larsclem well that’s just the trans cuz if it’s slipping it means it a bad trans the video was saying if it’s not shifting any gears then check the fuse hope this helps
@@vetcz8825 Thanks. Turns out that the transmission cooling line was leaking fluid into the transmission. What's crazy is the bottom of the transmission looked fine, but the internals were trashed. We had to have the transmission completely rebuilt. Thanks again.
Omg!! I spent all day changing the cylonids on my s10. Still no third or forth gear. I will check the dudes first thing in the morning!! Fingers crossed
OMG I Have a 1995 Sonoma we rebuilt it started up-cherry sounded better than before went a few miles then we couldn't shift to any gear. I really like this truck but aaaarg! It's driving me crazy
if pulling all codes 1-2 &2-3&torque solenoid and not fuses try disconnecting battery clamp positive and negative together for 15 minutes with key out of ignition. then reconnect battery, turn key over but not start 3 times Holding for 5 seconds start vehicle let run for 5 minutes so it learns ideal idle, moke sure everything is off before doing, then hold brake move shifter into every gear 5 seconds each then each one again back to park 5 seconds each. drive approximately 4 miles normal and it should shift perfectly. all this works if when you crank it over the check engine light goes off if check engine light is still on then you need to find where a wire isn't ground
I'm going to give your advice a try and check into the fuses I have a 05 yukon and the Trans was rebuilt at amco before I bought the truck Trans doesn't have 100000 on it yet I was driving the other day and noticed I didn't have 4th gear 123 and reverse work great smooth as can be no cel codes or Trans codes I did put a engine in that I put a stage 2 cam on but it's tuned at 276hp so it dosent damage the transmission
You not a Dumb ass. YOUR A SAINT!!! Bruther bye posting this video you will have saved many hard working people THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS !!! GOOD KARMA IS COMING YOUR WAY ! Hundreds of rip off artists are now screwed because of this video. RU-vid has been a God send to the average working person that can't afford to get screwed over. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ! Bless You 🙏
Great, doing troubleshooting/testing on the fuses first, but you have to look deeper...what is the actual 'cause' of a fuse blowing? My blown fuses always had an overload somewhere, so fix that too, or you'll be replacing fuses by the dozen. Thank you
I need to give this a try i changed everything i possibly could in the pan and the speed sensor mine shifts perfectly but then not 3 or overdrive usually not that lucky but I'll give it a try thanks
I have a 05 chevy suburban was driving had acted like it went into neutral coasted to side of road lost all gears would not pull i checked shift cable good it moves no vlown fuses transmissionjust doesnt engage????
Mine died on me while driving down the highway and wouldn't start and the shifter got stuck in second gear it would start out in drive but some down to second, what would cause that ?
If anyone can help I have a 2004 z71 Silverado after someone installed my stereo drive goes into limp mode but reverse works great and the transmission was perfect before radio install
Omg I have a 1996 Chevy 1500 and it won’t shift into 3rd and this guy tells me I have no fluid in it .. he doesn’t know where it’s going .. so I need a new transmission more than likely $2000 bucks ., Ok so it’s been sitting since December 2018. Then my friend Phil has the same kind of truck. But I have a computer for my transmission.?????Something his doesn’t have. And things are disconnected.. hum wonder how that happened, and I have plenty of fluid.. so it could be a fuse?? I love it.. thank you so much...
Hello, my old automatic transmission moved on only one gear (like a reverse gear). I changed it, but the new one is same thing. I've tried new brain box, I've scanned the car, it shows no problem. I've had an electrician check the car and he said the fuse is good. Is it possible that the fuses are good but not receiving enough current or have some other issue?
I'm having the same problem with my 2003 Yukon Denali shifts perfectly 1-2 then when I'm driving 30mph doesn't shift to the 3rd one 🤔 I shall try the fuses Nd I'll will update so hopefully that's the problem
if no third it's probably the clutch patch burned out. If you have ONLY third then the transmission is in standby safe mode or whatever limp mode - and so probably electrical.
I have a 99 tahoe seemed to work fine except it didnt feel like I ever had a passing gear in it put the gas all the way to the floor and it never kicked down . Also had a code for the A solinoid replaced It and the code stayed . Now the only way to get it to move is to run high fluid level and let it warm up. Any ideas? Aside from redoing the solinoid again will check fuses bit now that the fluid level is where it's supposed to be it wont move at all .
Damn my engine light just came on with the code p0740 . But my truck runs really good and shifts pretty smooth no problems whatsoever. Why would that light come on?
I am having problems with Our 2007 chevy suburban. We had a chevy place hook it up and said 02 sensors bad on drivers side changed both and sparp plug wires, engine idles, but when put in gear it stalls, wont shift and speedo not working.
Could be your throttle positioning sensor. There are two sensor/valve on the drivers side of the throttle body they are cheap and easy to change EGR valve and TPS sensor. Also clean your throttle body the 07 has electronic throttle so don't get your fingers cut off. Is the motor stalling or the transmission or both could be the brain or bad/burned wiring. I had an 03 that would idle faster and faster got dangerous, changed TPS/EGR next to it nothing helped. We plugged it to a computer and didn't read a problem. It ended up needing a new brain. I sold it as is and i still see it running around it had 265,000 when i sold it 3 years ago.
Mi 2000 chevy 4 wheel drive won't go an any gears. before I buy a new automatic transmission, is there any easy fixes like a bad furs or disconnected wires
The owner that I had the truck before me the transmission went out on him had no reverse at all. So I bought the truck for $300 and spent $400 on a 4L60e with 200k miles drove it around town and when I took it 50 miles from my home town it said trans hot. Idle eng. Let it cool down and drove it back home. Truck only got 1st and 3rd gear no 2nd or reverse. Could it be the fuse?
I am having a similar problem I have a 99 Oldsmobile Alero 2.4 I changed all my solenoids and tfp switch and still my car won't go into gear I checked the transmission fuse it seemed to be fine I am at a lost can you possibly help me
Check if the VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor is bad, its a sensor on the outside of the tranny that registers speed & the engine computer knows when to shift gears. If its bad the speedometer will be erratic or does not work and the odometer may or may not work plus a bad vss will cause erratic shifts and it won;t shift into higher gears or overdrive. If the vss is good then you may need a partial or full rebuild, depends on all symptoms. Use google to find images of the vss location if you don't have a shop manual. Or search online forums for pictures. Good luck!
i have a '03 Chevy Z-71 4x4 extended cab i just replaced the 4L60E tranny with a rebuilt . i put on 825 miles on it since , running fine up until now. i was cruising down the freeway just fine and all of a sudden it just went out. pulled off the freeway and checked the fluid and it was fine. started to take off again and it was slipping real bad ... any ideas ?
I have a 2000 gmc 3500 and trans is stuck in 2nd gear and converter is locked worked fine till had to replace ignition ass. In steering column now starts and runs great no shift any ideas
Is linkage cable all properly reconnected and not broken I.E. will the shifter move but the truck just stays in 2nd or will the shifter not move and is stuck in second. Really sounds like something didn't get put back together right if it was working fine before. You may have unhooked your shifting cable on accident.
was the ignition switch you put in it new, and non chinese made. I know in the 96, 97 era trucks would get stuck in a gear when it needed a new ignition switch. It may be a bad ignition switch not sending power back down to the transmission. I would bet that is your trouble.
Rob Netherland mine does the same thing. its so frustrating. operates fine when its cold but when it warms up after a few miles it has no 3rd gear and up. stays in 2nd. feels like limp mode but the display isnt reading any code.
Hey guys. 4l60e wont shift out into overdrive. Did shift out before fine. Speed sensor went out replaced it. Now wont shift out into overdrive.???????? Help please
I agree , this that another dont cut it, you could have been more specific , EXCACT fuse. Which you cant show, or just dont really know, terrible presentation
My 2001 suburban started to slip i believe , it shifts good 1st and 2nd then going into 3rd the gear doesnt go in and it idles really high, i have to release the pedal then push it fast so 3rd goes in ? Any ideas
you might check your transmission cable under the truck. It is a cable from the steering column to the transmission. sometimes if you have drivin through brush or got high centered that cable will come loose or break!
I have a question my truck has the full power but dosen't shift to 3rd when I'm driving 1st and 2nd go in fine then the transmission downshifts to 1st and stays there what could it be if it's the solenoid which one could it be?
I have a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer, I have to shift it into reverse 2 or 3 times for my truck to actually move in reverse. Could this be a fuse issue or does it sound like something else?
I certainly have the fuses checked 1st, thank you 😊 yeah I read it could be a solenoid issue as well so I’m glad you second that suggestion that for me, thanks again
It shocks me how many people say just check the fuses. A fuse blew because there was an issue. It could have been an issue with what you replaced or you even blew fuse while replacing what you replaced. A fuse is simply a breaker that opens when too many amps is drawn and no current goes to what ever circuit it protects when it opens. KISS theory can sometimes be abused by dense people that dont think. If it were only that simple.
Fuses blow all the time. Let me guess you change transmissions for a living and are butt hurt that my video is taking away shady business practices like charging someone hundreds of dollars for changing a fuse? Actually this truck had been in a small wreck and the limp home mode was triggered which purposely blows the fuse.
landrun89 Nope, not butt hurt, and not a transmission mechanic. I do alot of electrical stuff and yes Im a mechanic, but telling people to fix a transmission by simply changing a fuse and bam, all is good is 99% giving people false hope. The 1% may have been whatever issue you had. Your butt hurt because Im calling out this video and title for the sake of getting views. Look at all these people responding and getting excited that all they have to do is change a fuse that costs a few cents and there worries are gone. Lmao.
So you are a mechanic that is butt hurt?? I never said it would fix anything, all I said was to check the fuses before you spend money. I agree most problems won't be fixed by this but it doesn't hurt to check. Also there have been tons of people responding to each other on the comments helping each other fiqure out what their particular problems are because they cannot afford a prick like you that over charges for shit that probably doesn't need done.
I keep seeing these comments, I don't get it. Maybe it's just me, but you typically replace a fuse the first time it blows out. If it blows again then you know you need to dig a little deeper... A little common sense goes a long ways
I have a Colorado that transmission work fine for about 1/2 mile then it is like it went to neutral. I can shut it off and restart then does same thing again.
Pump or Sun shell if it goes into reverse then the pump rotor broke, the sun gear runs 2,3,R If the pump rotor is completely bad you will not have reverse or drive. But I have seen them where the rotor is cracked in half so it works at low rpms then when you Rev them up they don't work at all
Look underneath by the passenger side front tire for the wire that goes to one of those solenoids make sure it didnt come lose my s10 did the same thing
I changed a bunch out when I was replacing them and I didn't mark them but it was for sure on of those 5 I point at towards the end of the video sorry couldn't be more helpful
Not a bad truck for $1,500 bucks..... When that transmission craps out get a BULLRIPPER transmission. I have one in my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer EXT LS 5.3L it's a beast on the road.....
I have tahoe 2005 i change transmission oil and fillter . suddenly transmission works only in 3 hard and heavy stat drive it our workshops not pro they told me we must replace every thing inside transmission . including clutch i need help for that issue coz very expensive to do what they said to me
Mohamed Fathy Someone fix my car i asked him to chick fuses an selonoid later he call me to take my car after he fix it . but unfurtunitlly he was very busy to let me know what he did to fix ghe problem any way . I'll see what he did then I'll be back to you.
