Well explained. should've brought up the notches having to line up. Just a quick tip** The digutal display when lined up properly will show an underline of the position it is in. If the line under park or buettal isn't there, The reading is invalid and will cause a no crank condition due to the fact it doesn't see the position it is In. 🤙🤙
SO glad you posted this! I was messing with the shift cable for HOURS and finally decided to take a look at this part and see if there was something that could be awry with it. Sure 'nough this is my EXACT problem. I have P>2 and N has 2 positions on the indicator, but I have all gears just the display was messed up.
I have a problem something like that but my shaft is moving to much on the inner linkage spur inside the transmission pan. It either the pin or the spur that is wore out, i guess it would be called to much back lash where the spur mounts to the selector shaft that you are gluing, but on the other end of that shaft. It makes for a very sloppy shifter but all the lights on the dash work fine, it just doesn't want to shift through all the gears properly. This could make a mechanic think the Transmission was mission 3rd and 4th gear if he didn't open the Bottom of the case and look at the shifter spur on the inside. Park is from P to Neutral, D overdrive is as fare as the shifter will go down around the 1st gear spot on the dash selector section This really screws up the neutral safety switch and the Computer on a 1998 K1500. Just something to look out for.
Replacing a trans on 04 GMC Envoy. Trans has 2 electrical connections coming off nuetral safwty switch ( same as in this video). But the vehicle has 1 large 11 pin electrical connection going to the nuetral safety switch. Is it as simple as removing the switch with the 2 electrical connections and popping on the switch with the 1 large 11 pin connection?
Thanks for the video, im about to replace the range sensor (nss), im told that is the reason my reverse lights stay on, even after i turn the car off and pull the keys out?
Hi, i have a 1999 bmw 323i with a gm transmission. The safety mode with the gear with this ( ! ) inside the gear is on. Then the traction control light in on as well. Do you have any suggestion on what seem to be the problem?that switch that you replaced in the video, could that be the problem? I saw someone made a video here on youtube said that he has that problem and just replace that switch. But i’m trying to ask a second opinion. That switch is a bit expensive to make guesses
Does the RANGE SENSOR have anything to do with shifting 2nd to 3rd gears, I have a 1999 Silverado it only drives in 2nd gear but it does shift to 3rd while driving. It does take higher RMP's to shift.
Hi, Thanks for the great video :) Quick question, before doing this, should you put the gear on the dashboard on Neutral position? so that the cable is on neutral length? when you install the switch is on Neutral and the shaft is on neutral position.
i hae a 2006 gmc sierra 4x4. the switch only has one plug in. the transmission i bought for it has 2 plug ins and was removed from an 02 silverado. can i leave the switch i have on my truck while replacing my transmission and just mount the existing switch onto the new transmission?
That would certainly work for a while until a seeping seal works the glue loose and it falls off. Use a wirefeed and build up the keyway on the shaft itself so it takes all of the freeplay out of the mechanism. DONT WELD THE SHAFT WHEN IT IS IN THE TRANSMISSION. The heat will destroy the oil seal behind it and create unnecessary heat. It is fairly simple to remove the entire assembly away from the transmission if you remove the pan.
Never filed the shaft ever in many years. The only loose ranges switches have been aftermarket ones. Original equipment switches fit tighter. I will check for what you say about mushroom shafts closer. However, I have never seen a mushroomed shaft. Also, I have seen switches that have never been off that have worn out on the shaft and become loose.
quick ? does this solenoid have to be working properly for the trans to work.. I lost my gear indicator lights on my dash and my trans stopped working. bought a used trans installed everything indicator lights on dash where back on like normal and the trans worked as it should until the shift cable broke and my indicator lights on dash went back out n trans stopped working completely again.. dropped driveshaft to prevent getting ran over took everything off shift rod and shifted it manually all gears spun driveshaft but after installing it back to rear end and repeated same steps I had no change in results and still no indication lights on dash.. does that sensor stop the trans from operating completely???
@@thisisyourtransmission great video..so if the nss is NOT needed for the 4l60e trans to work can this nss be deleted from the wiring harness and run the engine and transmission w/o the nss ??? I am having trouble getting my ls 5.3 to run and code p0707 keep showing says it the nss ..can I delete this nss and drive okay ??? Thanks
Ok so would this be my issue on a 01 silverado ? Where I parked the truck literally for 5 mins and then came back and I put into drive and didnt move also that metal peice that on it wasnt on my neutral safety switch
First, the metal piece is for lining up the neutral switch when it is being put on. Second, You have to check it. You have to have someone put it in gear ( with the truck off ignition on) an see it the switch is loose on the shaft.
You first need a scan tool to view the indication. One thing that is important in fixing these vehicles today is having the proper equipment to fix and diagnose them. If it is showing the gear on the scan tool, then it could be something else.
YOU MUST FILE THAT SHAFT BEFORE REMOVING THE SWITCH!!! THEY COME MUSHROOMED FROM FACTORY AND REMOVING THE SWITCH WITHOUT FILING THE SHAFT WILL VERY OFTEN TIMES RUIN THE PARK NEUTRAL SAFTEY SWITCH 🙂👍
@@thisisyourtransmission I have replaced all my shift solenoids. My 96 K1500 only has low and reverse. I was told the NSS was my problem. What do you think? Let me give you some background I was towing and fluid came out if the vent. When I filled back with fluid I only have low and reverse. I replaced all shift solenoids.
Im getting same code p0706 but my issue is that while driving on a the highway itll be about 3rd or 4th gear driving fine and then out of nowhere it seems to go in neutral and i have slow down park and but it in drive again for it to get going again but itll do it again
I have a 460le transmission aswell i have a gm code 28 transmission range sensor switch error but it doesnt look like this one on this video. Could it be inside the transmission? Everytime i go from park to drive my truck jolts hard or from drive to park.
THIS IS YOUR TRANSMISSION 93 Silverado 5.7 2wd i have the SAME problem & have my 3/2 solenoid coming in the morning. HELP 5754496811 silvasamuel0515@gmail.com
I have a 05 trailblazer with this transmission. Yesterday I left the grocery store and took off from a light and it was like the car was in 3rd gear. I pulled over and put it in park. Pulled the shifter back into drive and the same thing. Like it's in 3rd. So I put it in reverse. Backed up 2 feet and stopped abruptly. Several times I did this. No change. I limped it home. Today after work I jacked up the rear and put it in 2wd. Started the car, the rear wheels spin forward in every gear including neutral and reverse. Even acts like it wants to pull forward in park. Any idea on what's going on here? I installed this rebuilt transmission a year and a half ago myself. No problems until now.
I replaced it. I removed the pan and found a bunch of metal shavings. I believe the sun shield broke. I kept it. Have it on the bench in the garage. I've wanted to rebuild one for a long time. I've had the trailblazer for 3 years and have installed 2 transmissions in it already. Lol its time to learn how to fix em.
Also when I drive 1s to 2nd and 3rd are fine ones I get to 4th gear it hit hard. Any help would save me some money I just lost my job. Money is tied. Thanks
@@cedricalexander9274 check your nautral safety switch on the stearing colume under your dash board its what your shift selector is connected to a box with a wire harness plugged in to it .. replace that or put your shift selector into nautral postion and try starting it that way if it starts that way and not in park to start then it deffinitly is your nautral safty switch on the colume .
Hopefully you don't push that super glue back into the shaft oil seal or that would be a messy leak when the shaft gets glued to the oil seal & tears that seal
Wats the actually word for that shaft that the sensor goes onto. My transmission leaks from there. And not sure Wat it's called to find out if it has o rings on it or wat
Been messing with one for a few days now. After buying two of them they both have random readings. I was just coming to the conclusion that thing is slipping on the shaft.
I was driving my truck along my other three Avalanche and notice I didn't have second and third 34th I'm sorry 34th now we started removing transmission when I realized that the bottom plug was not in the neutral safety switch would that be a reason I didn't have 3rd and 4th
To be honest, I do not know. Now, I would need a wire diagram to see what the bottom part of the switch is for. How many miles is on the transmission and did you remove the transmission pan first?
You absolutely do not have to add super glue to this. The switch is mildly adjustable. If you tilt the switch clock wise or counter clockwise the plastic teeth will butt up against the teeth on the transmission lever and "slop" will be removed. Also within the switch is quite a large "safety" area where it will and will not allow start. 99.9% of the time, a quick install will work just fine and that tiny bit of play will not matter at all, if it did, the great "allison" trans designers wouldn't be so great.
No one is perfect. This is why car manufactusrers have recalls. Over time shafts wear thin. Another thing, aftermarket parts are not always made true. As a result modification is necessary at times.
So would this be Part of the mechanics Job to set it RIght when he has Rebuilt your Transmission, because I've been having issues since day one, and it's been going on 4 months with this Rebuilt .. He said he's been working on Transmission for 30yrs " Really " so why have I've been having to take it back 3 times for something else that you have to buy and replace . This last time he told me that I needed to but a new Neutral Safety Switch, but I noticed that my reverse lights weren't coming on . It has a 1 yr Warranty, but he will Not give me ANY RECEIPTS on any of the Parts for the Rebuild .. WTF 😤😡
I forgot to mention the reason I took it back in the 3rd time is because the 2nd time I took it in I didn't drive it on the HWY, but when I did it didn't want to change into Overdrive, when I took it back the 3rd time he said that it was working correctly . I had taken my Suburban to Amco Transmission to confirm that it wasn't shifting to Overdrive and they Agreed with me, but the Mechanic said it was working correctly. But I don't think so, so now it sits till I can come up with Another $3.000 to get it fixed RIGHT, WHAT A B---- !!
The shop does not have to give any recipes for part. This is proprietary information. He does have to honor his warranty. Some places included a new neutral safety switch with a rebuild and some do not.
I have a P0706 code that popped up 2 days ago. I wasn't having any problems until yesterday. 1st, I felt a little skip and then driving in 4th and 3rd was high rpm and no speed increase. I can still drive normal in 2nd and 1st. Any help would be appreciate it. Thanks In Advance.Good Informative channel.
Just by a gm a switch that aftermarket crap is the problem and u can only use a gm switch ounce and then it will b loose and u have to file mushroom on the end of the shaft then install a new Delphi switch not junk aftermarket one
The torque converter is in a bind from not putting it in all the way , which I did not install but after I fixed the transmission I put it in making sure it was good thanks for your help
