Sorry, took over 3 hours to upload this, not sure why. In this video i revisit a 4L60E that i overhauled 8 months ago, came back with no 3rd gear due to low fluid level which i found a crack in the extension housing but got it all fixed up and back on the road for the wholesale account that sent it to us. Thanks for watching, be sure to hit the subscribe button.

The customer is very lucky to have you. Most companies would not warranty that.

Sucks to have a comeback especially when it wasn’t really your fault. With the quality of your work it probably doesn’t happen very often. Cheers.

Hello Gary. Have you considered a caveat added to each work order, requiring a 2 week follow-up that requires the customer to bring the vehicle back to your shop for a test drive & inspection for leaks? That's the way we did it. There was a space on the invoice that required a date & signature to verify compliance. It might've caught this leak early enough to correct it? Just a suggestion. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to make these videos.
@GaryFerraro

We do that with Retail, alittle harder with wholesale to have them contact the client to bring the car back, sometimes even the retail clients do not show when we ask them to come back. Thanks for the suggestion

Great video, thanks for sharing it! I have an early 4L60E with the 3-4 burnout issue in a corvette i just picked up. I plan on doing clutches and steels yo run it the rest of the summer. Is there something you see that's a common contributor to this issue, or is it mainly a weak point from the factory?

I have a 2007 H3 at the shop I work in. Replaced the trans and got the input speed code...assumed the junkyard sent a bad trans so had them send another and got the same code . Does the 07 have the separate TCM?? I'm getting some information says 07 up does and some says it's 08 and up??? I'll be looking in the morning. If it doesn't have the separate TCM what's the fix for the code??

I love your videos sir, so much so that if you were willing to consider getting a new camera, I would donate $20 toward it! The content is fantastic, and sometimes it's a little hard to see what is happening on that camera's image. Shoot, I may even have one I could just send you that is better than that one. What is it?

I have a samsung. What brands do you recommend?
@tptrsn
@tptrsn Год назад
@@GaryFerraro Samsung has made some really great cameras, but they seem to have gotten out of the business of making video cameras for the most part I think. So from the look of the image, I'm guessing that yours might be a camcorder that is pretty old at this point? I guess on the whole, there are a lot of small Sony camcorders from recent years that would be a pretty big upgrade in image. I usually use bigger, interchangable lens cameras, so it's hard for me to give a solid suggestion on a recent camcorder that would be one of the best ones to choose. My impression is that there are lots of recent models from Sony, Panasonic, maybe Canon, and maybe even Samsung that might be good options... If you did want to move to an interchangable lens camera, which would be a lot more expensive, and probably a lot less convenient to use, then I could actually offer suggestions.
@tptrsn
@tptrsn Год назад
@@GaryFerraro I explained in my other answer why I can't offer a really good suggestion that is right on point, but from looking at what Marcuspix on RU-vid has to say, I think I might be inclined to try a Sony CX405 for taking some better videos around the shop. It's not super expensive if it gets ATF or trans gel all over it or whatever, and does a pretty nice job!: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KmZH3rGjjlQ.html

Will a new torque converter be needed after such a repair and was the part you replaced in the rebuild where you said it shouldn't do that and could it led up to the problem of no 3rd Gear
@GaryFerraro
@GaryFerraro 7 месяцев назад
Technically no, but if the fluid is really bad and a lot of debris in the pan you may want to consider it, can't really get them clean inside

I have a stage 2 tranny that i installed about a year ago and recently my 3rd gear started slipping so i check my tranny fluid and i ended up being short like 3 quarts so i did research and im guessing its the 2-3 clutches, should i replace all clutches and steels only? Since it was kinda low on fluid what should i look out for when im replacing them?
@GaryFerraro
@GaryFerraro 5 месяцев назад
you can, as long as it air checks ok. Check the pressure plates, check the snap ring, load up the new parts and air check, if solid you should be ok, If a lot of debris you may want to take the drum apart for cleaning

What does it mean when your 4L60E won't shift from 2nd to 3rd but only sometimes? Never slips and no codes.

possible hanging 2-3 shift valve, maybe solenoid issue as well

What was the cause of 3rd gear failure? Could it have been a leaky check ball & capsule that lives inside the trans. case?
@GaryFerraro
@GaryFerraro Год назад
Never really found the smoking gun, i did check that and seemed ok, put in new 3-4 piston, double checked the Boost valve, no leaks, put ne rings on input shaft, everything air checked good and the drum held pressure, so went back together with it
@thechaindude1320
@thechaindude1320 7 месяцев назад
more than likely was slipping due to low line pressure as a result of low fluid level
